Do you want to know the difference between CPU and GPU?

Yesterday a question popped into my mind after reading about the new Nvidia Digit supercomputer (which will retail at $3,000) and RTX 5090 GPU (which will cost $2,000), which was "Why do CPUs exist, if GPUs are so good?" or something like that. For non-professionals this is an interesting question, who are using gaming laptops/PCs in their daily lives for content creation and such. If you are wondering similar questions or someone in your circle is, this link will be helpful: https://codingstuff.substack.com/p/if-gpus-are-so-good-why-do-we-still

Nvidia Digits + Cursor = Fast local models for coding.

@shahza1bmushtaq Not as expensive as spending 50$ a day on O1 😅 like I am now. I will recoup in 60days

@shahza1bmushtaq Hopefully I will get one on launch. The cursor team will need to add support as well I suppose. 1k TFlops 🤤

This really got me thinking, GPUs are super powerful, but CPUs seem like the glue holding everything together

I've always thought about this too, why not just use GPUs for everything?
Laurencio Trevino
I've wondered about this too, especially after seeing the specs of the RTX 5090.

This is such a great question! I've read that GPUs excel in parallel tasks, but CPUs are still essential for sequential processes like running your OS and basic computing
Peyton Walsh
I guess it's about how CPUs handle diverse tasks while GPUs are optimized for parallel processing.
Jonathan Lynch
That made sense to me. The CPU handles the basics, and the GPU tackles the specialized work.

Thanks for sharing! I now understand that the GPU does the heavy lifting, but the CPU still keeps everything running.
Alexander James
CPUs are the brains of the computer, managing operations that GPUs can't handle on their own.

This article might clear things up.
