After TikTok and CapCut was banned in the US over the weekend, Meta announced it's new video editing app as an alternative to CapCut. The TikTok is now partially restored crediting Trump with restoring service. “As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.!” the message reads on the app. It's still missing from the app store. What do you think will happen next? Share your thoughts in the comments. :)

Both Instagram reels and Youtube shorts will try to up their game, both services are pretty good for founders, especially Youtube shorts. They will have even better tools for creators for analytics and monetization.

Interesting! Instagram’s new app, Edits, seems like a direct response to the CapCut ban in the US. It will be interesting to see how Edits competes in the video editing space, especially since CapCut had such a strong user base. Instagram already has a powerful platform for content creators, and if Edits brings smooth, easy-to-use editing features, it could be a great tool for video creators. I’m curious to see how it integrates with Instagram’s existing features and whether it will attract a large following. Looking forward to more details on how it shapes up!

I used Capcut almost daily, and losing it sucked.

@susan_diazz Hopefully Edits turns out to be a better alternative.

Honestly, it seems like Meta/Instagram is doing its best to capitalize on the TikTok ban. First they changed the square grid, then they introduced the friends reel tab. And now, Edits.

Instagram is definitely trying to level up and encourage more users to start using the app more to create content not just consume. One thing that caught my attention was the simplicity of the editor- clearing making users drop the excuse of not being able to edit content on their own. It would be interesting to see metrics of the rate of increase of the number of content creators on the platform and the usage of the editor to actually edit videos. TikTok has been under the radar for sometime now but we can’t ignore the fact that TikTok changed the content creation industry game - for good or for bad, these platforms need to follow the safe data use guidelines for everyone’s good. Would be very interesting what comes next post removal of the ban.

It’s interesting to see Meta stepping in with an alternative like Edits. With the ban on CapCut, there's definitely a gap in the market for video editing tools. It'll be intriguing to watch how users respond to Edits and whether it can capture the same popularity. As for TikTok, its partial restoration raises questions about how long it will remain accessible and how the landscape of social media might shift in response to these changes. What do you think—will Edits gain traction, or will users find other alternatives?

@kubernetes_dashboard I think the more options consumers have the better it is for fostering faster innovation. :)

IG has been planning to up their game in terms of editing process for a while now as a lot of creators are huge fans of capcut and its ease of use; imo the timing of the launch was a bit awkward given that they announced it the day tikok had its hiccup on the us market. As a creator and user, I am enjoying the latest progress of instagram and I’m looking forward to new releases this year, however I would like them to come up with something unique and leverage the community aspect more, now it seems like all these apps are copying each other

@tina_armasu Meta mostly copies and adds their own twist to it sometimes. :D
