Sleep. The most underrated productivity hack.

While remote working, we all have had numerous discussions around the importance of sleep, and read many articles about the benefit of sleep, but do we sleep well?
I am a person who needs 8 hours of sleep every night to function. I always thought that was such a waste of time. I envied others who could just sleep for 5 hours and still be ok until I read the book 'Why we sleep'. (I might now agree with everything in the book. but that's beside the point)
Are you consciously trying to sleep better? Or you already do?
How many hours of sleep do you manage to get daily?

If you are sleeping more than 30 minutes per night you are not trying hard enough. #hustle

For sure, never try to cut on sleeping time.
Hi Deepa,
7 is fine for me. I tried to sleep 6 hours but when I finally realised that it was a stupid idea, I gave up.
"I envied others who could just sleep for 5 hours". Me too ;)

I have actively started tracking my sleep since a few months which helps me see trends in my mood and productivity and how it relates to my sleep quantity and quality. I am averaging 7 and a half hour of sleep these days which works good for me.
Btw, I want to know what points do you disagree because I find them all pretty compelling. ๐
@almost_designer did you find any correlation between your quality of sleep and your productivity?

You're right, that's what works best, and it's strange that many people miss these points. You should think about your schedule to get the best sleep and recover well after every day. Rarely do I use sleep aids when I have trouble sleeping
Definitely. I always notice the difference when I have a lack of sleep.

As I've gotten older, I've definitely started to realize the importance of sleep. I try and aim for 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Anything less or more than that, and I'll be exhausted and not as productive.

Great topic!
It is the same with me, I must admit. I simply need 8h of sleep, and yes - society and obligations or tempo of others dictates that this simple, normal, and human need makes you feel lazy, not productive enough, guilty, etc.. :/ Anyway, I think that new awareness and the types of workflows are opening this normality to the world, and life is getting more in balance.. ^_^
5 to 6 hours good for me, then afternoon nap for 2 to 3 hours
Yeah right! You need to hit that refresh button to relax your mind.
An underrated productivity hack for sure.
I never get enough sleep! unfortunately
@fares_aktouf oh! How does that work for you?
It's so different across people. I need no less than 7 hours of sleep a day in the long run (also I'm capable to stay productive for a several days while sleeping 5 hours a day, or even less). At the same time, I know people who sleep significanly more or significantly less.
It's reported Churchill used to take a nap after lunch (although it seems he slept very littly at night).

I usually sleep five to six hours every night, but whenever I can manage an eight-hour sleep cycle, I do so.

I usually sleep for 7h, but the time depends. If it's a busy day tomorrow I might sleep less, or if it's a chill day I might even sleep 12h. Besides 7h sleep almost every day I have nap times, mostly after training.

I usually prefer my sleep to be around 6-7 hours, and I'm most functional and comfortable then.
I noticed that stress, social media, and coffee affect my sleep, so I'm trying to cut some habits to function better.
You should be fine as long as you follow your biorhythm with sleeping and reduce things that affect your sleep quality.
Have you tried to study chemistry?? You will surely feel dizziness just in a few minutes.
No matter what is the situation, I always manage my time to get enough sleep. Otherwise, I cannot concentrate on my job.
7 - 9 hours is fine for me, and I truly believe that we have to sleep more than 6 hours to be more productive. Sometimes I also sleep 1 hour during the day.
Best thing I've done sleep-wise is keep the curtains open, natural light seems to sort out my circadian rhythm!
