Meta has launched ‘Threads’ an alternative to Twitter. Have you signed up for Threads? What do you think, does it live up to its Hype? Feel free to share your Threads Profile here. Let’s Follow each other 🚀
Sounds like a rehash. It might go well for some time due to the hype. But it'd be hard to experience steep growth beyond a time without any innovation that attracts people.
Threads isn't a Twitter clone or killer. It's predicated on a completely new paradigm: built on Instagram (with BYO username import fresh out of the box), based in Meta's ecosystem (monopolistic network effect), and fediverse-friendly (however this plays out remains to be seen). This is exciting.
Having said this, you know what to do: https://www.threads.net/@sfali789
I think Elon Musk will offer everyone free blue checks once he sees the churn. And at the very end he will pay people to use twitter. Not charge them. Threads FTW🚀
Defenetly will try, on begening that can be good aquasition channel something like ClubHouse few years past, but I do not think so that Threads will have place between other socials.
I think Threads will slowly lose active users. Instagram user base is unfamiliar with text-based app and after dopamine of getting followers every day fades away, they lose interest and will go back to Instagram.
I believe that because of Meta copying and integrating features from their competitors (Snapchat, Twitter and others) they will create a monopoly on social media. Instagram added stories a feature on snapchat that is really popular. Slowly they will make a platform which has everything a user needs. Also they will try to buy everything just like Whatsapp.
Hey, It looks interesting! I just downloaded and signed up. Also, getting 10 million people sign up within a few hours of launch certainly shows that people are looking for credible alternative to Twitter.
I think it's very under powered. Not comparable to Twitter at this time. They got millions of sign-ups cause they used Instagram.
They will have early traction but unless they make the app more usable and release a web version they will be a niche product.
nothing cool there... bunch of people I don't know posting about things i'm not interested in... how will it replace twitter if its the same old Instagram crowd?
The onboarding UX was sweet — while there were exceptions (ex: explaining the ramifications of having a merged Instagram & Threads profile), it was clear and had the right amount of hand-holding.
I liked that after first logging in, I was presented with *some* content vs. an empty feed. I soon got frustrated once I learned there is no (current) way to turn off the recommended content. Because I couldn't easily zero in on my follows / friends, I quickly stopped using it. Bluesky is the far winner in the realm of content control.
One thing I noticed = the different networks are starting to have different purposes. When Mastadon was the only serious contender, it made sense for it to be a 100% Twitter alternative. I've since learned that my circles / audiences are growing segmented by tool: Mastodon is where the tech journalists & developers converse, Bluesky is where to find celebrities & pop culture, and Threads immediately became the playground of brands & influencers (no surprise). TL;DR = there will no longer be the One Killer App, but I'll bounce around between apps to maintain my different areas of focus.
Shameless plug for my profile = https://www.threads.net/@mcgarit... :)
I think it's quite a weird thing for well-established profiles to start with 0 followers. For instance, the @graphica.ai business account has 30k+ followers on Instagram, and now it's just hundreds on Threads because people are still in transition.
As for me, it would be much better to keep accounts as is without starting from scratch. What are your thoughts about such a launch strategy?
Definitely going to be interesting to see if people float toward threads after the hype dies down. Personally really like the UI, but the capability-wise with posting it seems a bit blank. Definitely see
a lot of potential with Thread especially with Instagram attached to it which is super unique!
Connect with me on threads! : https://www.threads.net/@tylerrong
It's young unlike Twitter, and lacks the features of Twitter which the users of the platform like. But it has good potential because it's connected to Instagram too, which is a platform that is used by a lot.
something funny to think about, threads is basically adding "text" posting to instagram.
they've essentially just added a light version of facebook to instagram.
twitter just keeps getting better.
I think X users will not migrate to Instagram to use a Twitter-like platform (man what a wild thing to say!) Because they already have that. Instagram users will not utilize Threads cause they were not looking for such a medium in the first place
I think the initial momentum definitely helped Meta to gain attention (mostly from Twitter users themselves) Both segments went back to their initial roots. X users went back to X and Instagram users went back to Instagram, no one really stayed on Threads.
