Everyday, we are undoubtedly evolving as tech-enthusiasts and I believe social media is going to be a huge disruption in our lives. Do you think technologies like AI, VR, Metaverse would greatly influence the upcoming dimensions of social media. Would love to hear your perspective on what social media holds in the future?

Social media is a great channel for D2C kind of businesses. It is known that 60% of revenue for these businesses comes from social media channels! I firmly believe techs like AI, VR and metaverse brings all together a new experience for the content consumers.

Shopping will become more common on social media channels.

I think AI, VR, and Metaverse can provide much immersive experience. People could actually meet in the virtual world. Also, the VR content on social media would engage many people and provide heightened sense of actually being present in the virtual world. I found an interesting article that elaborates on this topic: https://www.forbes.com/sites/ber...

@bipinjg omg I can't imagine a twitter or facebook argument in the metaverse. Debates and politics could get interesting for sure.

This is such an interesting topic, @janvikaurpanesar. With the Web3 in place, the space in which social media is currently operating would be completely changed, and it would not be confined to just "Like," "Share," and "Subscribe." The perfect example of a web-based social media service is xone.gg, which is built on blockchain and NFTs allowing users to create and share virtual worlds using AR. In terms of the Metaverse, social media platforms in the future will strive to provide immersive, interactive experiences that stimulate as many senses as possible, rather than simply connecting us to our friends.

Pretty interesting - with channels turning into handles, profiles turning into avatar and more. Your customers / followers will own a unique identity on the internet. While the fundamentals by which we target them may more or less be the same - the approach may change significantly. Example: Today, if you are able to make the graphic / content visually engaging (from a 2D standpoint), you can have a great CTR. Imagine a metaverse setting where this content / graphic is also judged on the sense of experience a user has looking at it and hence a completely new dimension that will judge how your CTR will look. Some companies are doing real cool innovations in this space, but it'll take time till a SOP is established!

Of course, we can already communicate in a number of ways via social media. Text, voice call, video call, there's no shortage of ways to keep in touch with friends and family. But imagine you could feel like you were right there, in the room with them? VR technology could make this a reality.

1. Search on Social Media Instead of Engines 2. More Reliance on Influencers 3. Seamless Shopping Experience on Most Socials 4. Higher VR/AR Adoption

social media sits operating within specific verticals will have increasing success, such as sport, finance, automotive, music, film, and other large volume opportunities.

This particular social media trend is pretty controversial, given the evident vulnerability of children to the dangers of the online space. Recently, Instagram announced that they were developing a child-friendly version of their popular social media app, fittingly called Instagram Kids. This platform was intended to be ad-free, so as to not influence children to buy certain products.

We're already surrounded by machines that can perform a variety of manual chores, so take a look around you. Machines will be able to perform more complex, intellectually demanding activities in the future. There may be fewer people who feel the need to work if more employment is available. So it's critical to strike a balance to avoid problems like joblessness and unequal resource distribution. However, even minor limitations can't diminish the importance of a more diverse and connected world.

Creating and sharing media will become increasingly easy as wearable technology becomes mainstream.

I agree. With huge amounts of data being collected every day, it's what we agree to give on social media. Technology is absorbing every inch of it and training itself to become a giant. It is somewhat of a dilemma for users who still keep a primitive mindset, whether to accept the evolving world or stay where they are. But of course, we can't just escape from what's coming next in front of us.

@rupal_sharma3 Agreed. I also think more data will be collected as well. It seems pretty far off for now, but with neuralink on the horizon, advertisers may have access to users' brainwaves in the future to make more targeted advertising decisions.

Surely social media apps couldn’t possibly fit any more ads into their interfaces? Well, you’d be surprised at how nifty these companies can be at popping an ad here and there. With the rising popularity of social media, it’s only natural for more and more companies to offer top dollar for an ad spot that millions will see. If anything, social media offers a more profitable advertising platform than print and television could ever dream of offering.

I have an alternate view. People will be more open to meeting new people face-to-face and less on social media. With all the gathered data and surveillance - each person will have a rating - there will be fewer violent crimes, so safe to meet in-person - people will be able to obtain the compatibility score before meeting the person In my opinion, any social media that can figure out a method to group compatible individuals together will survive. Here AI will play a big role. I can see a big role of VR and metaverse in education, but not much in SM.

@rach_ana This is an interesting take on the future of social media

@rach_ana Hi Rach, it's interesting you say this because getting people to meet face-to-face is something thisapp (the company I work for) is building towards. We just launched on Product Hunt, we would love to get some feedback. https://www.producthunt.com/post...

social pages will become more conductive to enabling customers to respond directly without creating potential brand damage.

Checkout Farcaster, it is a sufficiently decentralized social network. It is an open protocol that can support many clients, just like email. Users will always have the freedom to move their social identity between applications, and developers will always have the freedom to build applications with new features on the network.

We think the future of communicating and interacting with other users and objects will be a mix of AR/VR/MR and blockchain. NFT to customize real objects -> https://www.sgozz.com/post/image... GeoPost and GeoCamera -> https://www.sgozz.com/post/geopo...

I think with image and text generating AI, as well as data collection and prediction algorithms, social media will probably be more personalized to your preferences. I think this will have the tendency to create echo chambers, since people will rarely see things outside of their own little bubble. I also think social media will "follow" you to other sites as well, since the data they collected from you could be used to build a marketing profile, which they'll sell to other companies as valuable advertising data. Like others have said, there will probably be more options to buy things directly from the site, which fits in nicely with marketing data being collected from customers and users.

Social media has already formed its own categories - 1. places to vent out - Twitter, Reddit and 2. LinkedIn—people hire, try to become influencers through knowledge sharing, and have light moments. The venting out places are here to stay-AR/VR will hugely influence how people can express themselves. The money-making side could be access to creator tools—better filters, AI-based image/video creation, longer videos, etc., and ads. LinkedIn-like platforms are probably going to create more space for events/announcements, press conferences, job fairs, newsletters, certifications, and more integrations with hiring tools—we will see monetization of such platforms beyond Premium and ads. LinkedIn may become a lead generation engine.
