1.1.1.1 is the fastest, privacy-first consumer DNS service powered by Cloudflare and no, this is not a joke.

I’ve always wonder how Google got the IP address 8.8.8.8 and IBM got their 9.9.9.9.
E.T.Cook
@bradungar In this case, 1.1.1.1 was held by the non-profit APNIC.
E.T.Cook
@bradungar According to APNIC, it was done with specific caveats for the purpose of research, and requires ongoing audits. https://blog.apnic.net/2018/04/0...

Awesome move from Cloudflare here with this new service coming as a natural extension to their powerful network. ✌🏼

Love it! Really easy to implement, great job Cloudflare!

Pros:

Faster

Cons:

Nothing

Michael Tchong
Why does Safari give me a "certificate not valid warning" on Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 site, which offers a privacy service? Not great to see a warning that your personal data may be stolen.
Vjatseslav Gedrovits

Not sure about the privacy part.

Pros:

Alternative to Google DNS

Cons:

Is not a Google DNS

Benjamin Alijagić
Is this legit or will you just replace all images on websites with Nicolas Cage?
Gabriel Lewis
Can this work with Eero in any way?
Aaran McGuire
@gabriel__lewis Yes, it should do. As long as your network or device allows you to change your DNS address, then you can use 1.1.1.1

Have been using Cloudflare to speed up my websites for many years, love the product. 1.1.1.1 is really really fast. Even the Google AdWords loads in seconds which normally takes atleast 2-3 mins time :p

Pros:

Super fast!

Cons:

Don't see any.

it’s amazing, at the beginning I thought it’s April fool but then I realized that its just blocked by my isp provider, I used VPN to try to give it a try, but I couldn't because the certificate of the website has some issue, hope you gonna fix it soon
Aaran McGuire
@engomarehab If you're still having issues, would you be able to send a traceroute of 1.1.1.1 so we can find out what the issue is?
iThinkDifferent 
@aaranmcguire here it's but I did remove last couple numbers from my personal IP address Traceroute has started… traceroute to 1.1.1.1 (1.1.1.1), 64 hops max, 72 byte packets 1 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1) 1988.190 ms 2.416 ms 1.830 ms 2 host-41.236.**.tedata.net (41.236**) 21.904 ms 22.140 ms 23.134 ms 3 10.37.75.1 (10.37.75.1) 37.815 ms 21.338 ms 21.508 ms 4 10.37.75.2 (10.37.75.2) 21.290 ms 27.416 ms 20.785 ms 5 10.37.107.137 (10.37.107.137) 31.793 ms 31.039 ms 32.690 ms 6 10.37.41.249 (10.37.41.249) 28.765 ms 31.809 ms 32.900 ms 7 10.36.19.161 (10.36.19.161) 26.296 ms 25.038 ms 25.756 ms 8 * * * 9 * * * 10 * * *

I'm not sure what makes me trust this in terms of better speed and security. How do I know for sure?
Aaran McGuire
@adrian_carolli You can view the Privacy Policy here, https://developers.cloudflare.co... This will be audited by a third party each year.
Deekshith Allamaneni
@aaranmcguire @adrian_carolli Good way to try is with ping command (at-least on Linux and Mac) I see it is slightly faster or at-least comparable to Google DNS and Open DNS at my location (Illinois, US) ping 1.1.1.1 round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 13.078/14.768/18.370/1.948 ms ping 8.8.8.8 round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 14.055/17.541/29.320/5.445 ms ping 208.67.222.222 round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 14.260/15.401/16.876/0.972 ms

This company has a good reputation of fighting for privacy, as far as I can tell.

Pros:

Seems to really speed things up

Cons:

You have to trust somebody, why not them?

Fraser Smith
Has it been blocked by the Great Firewall of China yet? (The true mark of success - :-) )
Yaakov K. Vogel

Cloudfare CEO says he's working on it.

Pros:

At least Quad 9 blocks phishing and malware domains

Cons:

Not quite as 'Private' as advertised, as currently no encrypted SNI

Ahmad Awais ⚡
Tell me it's not an April Fool Joke?!
Nate Ritter

What else is there to know?

Pros:

Fast

Cons:

None yet

Anuruddha Jayasinghe
I just tried it and ran a bunch of before and after speed tests and there doesn't seem to be much of a difference... I'm on a MacBook using Fios in NYC.
Tom
How does it compare to opendns.com?
Aaran McGuire
@hellotom 1.1.1.1. is faster https://www.dnsperf.com/#!dns-re.... Also, if you're concerned about privacy I would recommend using 1.1.1.1. You can see everything 1.1.1.1 logs, https://developers.cloudflare.co...
Pandu Shree
is it for all globe users or only for Asia Pacific region?
Erick Barron
I will try it out because I rather trust Cloudflare than Comcast
