I'm a fan of postcards - they're lovely to receive and keep on your fridge for an indefinite period of time. However, they are a bit of a pain to send; working out where the post office is and how much it's going to cost can be tricky, especially if you're in a country where you're unfamiliar with the language. sqgl lets you use your phone to send real, physical, personalised postcards to friends and family (or yourself, if you're that way inclined) without needing to find a post office, write addresses, or track down a stamp.
Ha I just tweeted saying "What is with the abundance of 'postcard' apps? Who was even sending postcards in the first place?" - because I literally do not understand the 'postcard hype'. Maybe because I didnt hold a big value on them previously and now they dont hit a nostalgic part of me.
I tweeted that because I saw Anchovy (posted today too) do something cool but then went the postcard angle too. There must be something I'm missing 🙄
@bentossell there definitely are a number out there now! I think the appeal of postcards is quite specific to the person and their own sense of nostalgia - kind of like how some people still love vinyl records etc
@bentossell I think it has to do with the growing nostalgia in younger generations. Millennials desire to return to a simpler time and now that everything is so digital getting a physical card is so much more special. At least that is what appeals to me!
@bentossell I started traveling in 2005, and on my early trips...post cards were something I bought in every city I vistied. Though I don't, many of my friends still buy postcards on every trip they go on (but they generally buy them, put them in their bag, and ship/hand them to people back home).
Hi everyone, thank you for checking us out! We built sqgl because we felt collectively that while we all still loved receiving physical postcards, we found it a pain and inconvenience to actually send them, especially when traveling somewhere new. We also wanted to increase the level of customization possible with the cards, and allow the use of all of the content we have on our phones these days. We appreciate any and all feedback! Feel free to use the promocode 'producthunt' for $1.00 off a card.
