1Blocker for Mac 3.0 — Block unwanted content in Safari
Featured

1Blocker improves your browsing experience by blocking unwanted content in Safari. It protects you from ads, tracking, data collectors, and helps you be focused on important things. It's fully native and secure by design — we don't track the sites you visit.

I've been using 1Blocker for a long time on my iPhone and I really feel like it's the best iOS content blocker. Great idea to be able to whitelist some elements but not others on a website. Are you considering supporting other browsers?
Salavat Khanov
@buzzb0x Awesome! 👏 Adding support for other browsers isn't something in our pipeline, though. At this moment, we simply don't have enough resources. Currently, it's just me, making 1Blocker for iPhone, iPad and Mac. What browser do you use on iOS other than Safari?

👋 Hey Product Hunters! After eight months of hard work, I'm very excited to show what's new in 1Blocker for Mac. I improved the app across all platforms - 1Blocker is available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. I'm also making some basic features available for free. 🧭 What is 1Blocker? 1Blocker is the fastest and most powerful native content blocker for the new Safari 13. It's not just an ad blocker, 1Blocker can also block cookie notices, crypto-mining in the browser, hide comments and other annoyances. You are in control and decide what to block. • Blazing fast, doesn't slow down the browser. That's because Safari itself handles all the blocking, 1Blocker just provides rules for it. • Secure by design. 1Blocker doesn't have access to webpages and doesn't track the sites you visit. • Native. 1Blocker is a fully native app designed and optimized for the new Safari. 🚀 What's new in 3.0? I wrote a detailed overview of the new 1Blocker for Mac in our blog (link above). Here's a quick recap! ✋ Better unwanted content blocking ☁️ Frequent rules updates via our cloud service 👀 New Safari extension that shows what was blocked on a site 😻 New interface makes it easier to use for regular people, not just geeks 🎨 Advanced customization (custom rules, groups) 💸 Basic features available for free now I also wrote a post about the transition from a paid-upfront business model to a subscription, which can be shared between an unlimited number of iOS and Mac devices within the same Apple account. Of course, all existing customers who paid for any 1Blocker app in the past will get the new 1Blocker on all platforms for free forever. There's also one year of free trial for them to try our optional cloud updates. 1Blocker is free to start using now and available for iPhone, iPad and Mac. --- 🙏 Thanks for reading! I've worked hard on this release, everything made by myself. So nervous to launch it today! I would love to hear your feedback and how I can improve the app. 💬 I'm in a different time zone, but I'll be hanging out in the comments almost all day if you have any questions! 💖 I have been working on 1Blocker for 4 years now. It's been an incredible journey that taught me a lot about making and shipping apps. I'm still impressed and so thankful that all of this allows me to work on an app that people actually use and enjoy. Those who did pay for 1Blocker are ultimately the people who keep it alive. Without your support, 1Blocker won't be able to exist. THANK YOU!!!

@khanov I just wanted to say thank you for the great job. I have been using 1Blocker since the beginning. I understand that developing and up keeping a software cost a lot of time and money. Since you don't sell our privacy, 1Blocker is the only ad-blocker that I trust. I don't believe in free software. "Those who did pay for 1Blocker are ultimately the people who keep 1Blocker alive." . The discounted lifetime subscription is absolutely worth it, specially that it's universal and one purchase works across all my devices/platforms. Thank you for the great job again! Just promise keep the updates alive!
Salavat Khanov
@ireza Thanks! 🙌

Long time 1Blocker user here, my excitement was dashed when I read it needs macOS 10.15. Why is that a requirement? Why is 10.14 not suitable?
Daniel Marcinkowski
I've been using 1Blocker since it came out. Sign up for the subscription right away. Thank you!
Salavat Khanov
@dmarcinkowski_ Thanks for supporting 1Blocker! You are one of those people who keep it alive 💖

Sigh, yet another app I liked lost to a subscription business model. I fully appreciate that app developers need sustainable revenue. I'm happy to pay for upgrades every year, assuming they're reasonably priced. But I will never, EVER subscribe, where I lose access entirely if I choose not to pay. I'm OK with the transition you guys chose, where previous customers get access to everything but frequent adlist updates. I don't feel cheated, and I don't feel like I need to delete the app and find a replacement right away. But by choosing a subscription model rather than charging for the upgrade, that means you'll never get any more money out of me. And I would have kicked in another five bucks no problem.
Salavat Khanov
@jaydelgato Thanks Jay! We tried to do a paid upgrade last year with the release of 1Blocker X for iOS. However, that didn't work well. There's no official support for paid upgrades in the App Store, so we tried releasing a separate app. But users who purchased the old app couldn't get the new app at a discounted price, because you can only set one price for an app. I'm glad that you are ok with how we handled the upgrades this year though 😀 We also offer a Lifetime option for people who don't like subscriptions. In addition, if you paid for any 1Blocker app in the past, the Lifetime is just a fraction of the regular price.
Jay Delgato
@khanov Yes, I paid for both the OG 1Blocker and 1Blocker X. Was hoping to pay a flat fee for 1Blocker Y this year. I'm on the free 1 year trial so I can't check the price, but I recall the lifetime subscription being like thirty bucks. That's more than I'm willing to pay for an iOS app. I'm happy to upgrade every year for five dollars or so, but thirty in one go is a non-starter. Anyway, hopefully this time next year you release 1Blocker v4 for five buckaroos.

Niicee! How I lived without it before? I want to try it :) Сongratulations!

DNSCrypt with million of blocklist. We all know Pihole.

Wanted to note that Apple Store update is not recognizing when 1Blocker is updated. I suspect some ID that indicates update is not correct either in the app or the Apple Store submission. I agree with Jay in that I would not and have never go with any app on a subscription model. That's why I dropped Photoshop for Affinity Photo. But I wish you guys the best of luck. Seems that's the way a lot of software is going now and if it helps you keep the product alive, go for it.
Jay Delgato
@shupshe TONS of apps are going subscription. It's exasperating. I switched from every single one other than 1Blocker. Would have switched here too if not for the generous free trial. Anyway, the iOS appstore did recognize the update for me. Maybe it's regional, I'm in the USA. I don't use 1Blocker (or Safari) on MacOS.
Shupshe (Shupshe)
@jaydelgato Don't know if there was a fix on the App Store or what, but it's installing on macOS Catalina fine now.
Josh Nichols
I appreciate the update! Content/ad/tracker blocking is an arms race that requires constant work. $5 a year is a bargain. My only complaint is the lack of transparency with pricing. You mentioned a lifetime subscription and I never saw that and can't find it.
Salavat Khanov
@mrblank Lifetime is the third option in the list: Monthly / Annual / Lifetime
Josh Nichols
@khanov I see. I passed that screen when I snagged the free year and couldn't find the option for lifetime in my subscription settings in the App Store. I'll cancel my free year and switch. Thanks!
Justin Crabtree
@mrblank When the year free trial is up, will we still have the option to purchase the lifetime subscription at the discounted rate?
Justin Crabtree
@khanov When the year free trial is up, will we still have the option to purchase the lifetime subscription at the discounted rate?
Salavat Khanov
@justindc Yes, of course! Existing users will always be presented the discounted price.
Nelson Castillo
@justindc @khanov the same issue here. And I read a positive answer. I hope the that offer is back after a year or one better thanks big fan about this new update.

Currently the "1Blocker Button" Safari extension on macOS does not require the permission to "Webpage Contents (Can read sensitive information from webpages, including passwords, phone numbers, and credit cards on all webpages)". And I'm grateful for that because I hate it when Safari extensions have that permission. But will the "1Blocker Button" extension require the 'Webpage Contents" permission if and when you enable the "Hide Element" quick action in the future? And if I were then to disable the "1Blocker Button" extension, would I still get the frequent updates (as a subscribed user)?
James Bond
I'd like to also point out that the Visual Editor for hiding elements is not at all an essential feature because it's quite easy to go to Safari > Develop > Show Web Inspector (or Option-Command-I, once Develop menu has been enabled in Safari Preferences), and figure out the annoying element's CSS selector by using the crosshair tool. Therefore, if you're faced with a decision to either enable the Visual Editor & require the "Webpage Contents" permission or completely remove the Visual Editor feature & not require the "Webpage Contents" permission, then I would very much prefer you chose the latter option.

Hey Guys, Really love the Safari extension. My only gripe with it is that it doesn't block ads on Twitch. I really hoped that it would be able to block them when I bought it.

Салават, добрый день! Как мне найти версию для High Sierra? Salavat, good afternoon! How I can find version for High Sierra?
Manuel Moreale
Get my upvote and my money. Been a user since the original 1Blocker. Was using it on both mobile and desk. Was a bit sad when 1Blocker X came out only for mobile and there was no desktop version. But now I can be happy again. Also thumbs up for adding a lifetime option (which I picked up) and not forcing the subscription model. Congrats for the launch.
Salavat Khanov
@manuelmoreale Thanks Manu! 🚀
