So excited to see our new design and spotlight feature in the wild. We believe that representation with a minimum of other obligations required (friend requests, constant content creation, work networking requests, etc.) is the basic foundation of a personal page on the web. In the past few years, we got away from our unique brand of simplicity, adding lots of “engagement” features, as we chased metrics. While we generated millions and millions of compliments & collections, we cannot honestly say that either of those features created enough meaningful value for our users. We decided to reset and the result is a much simpler design: a single page with one prominent button and a few other outbound links. We're not a social network: there’s no friending, or following, or connecting. Instead, there’s just a button we call the "spotlight." It’s a single call to action meant to get visitors to actually do something with the page they’re visiting. Every person who creates a page has to pick one. Photographers might choose "view my portfolio" or "view my photos." Airbnb hosts would choose "stay at my place." For authors there’s "buy my book"; for musicians, there’s "listen to my music." The link points wherever you want it to. You can learn more at my blog: tonyconrad.wordpress.com

@tonysphere I have one feature request -- needs a Snapchat module!
Pete Davies
@tonysphere I really like it. Big fan of the one clear CTA ("Spotlight"). 🙌
Jp Valery
@tonysphere maybe i'm a bit blind but how can you setup the new design ?
Jim Canto
@tonysphere "We are not a social network." Thank you for that. Clear differentiator.

I'm extremely excited about this redesign! The about.me team did an amazing job. I'm on the board, but also have been a rabid user since day one.

I've been an advisor to the company since it started many years ago. It's great to see this fresh new release of the product that's focused on the needs of people today and in the future. Sign up for an account and let us know what you think! It'll literally only take a few minutes for you to get an awesome looking page of your own.

What's the story behind the redesign? How is it better?

@tonysphere Tony, how do I view who viewed me with this new design? Am I missing something? Otherwise this new redesign looks awesome!
Paris Rouzati
Super pumped to work on the about.me team! Check out some of the new features: *Beautiful adaptive templates *Spotlight – your call-to-action button *Awesome mobile experience Here's my page: about.me/parisrouzati If you already have a page, you can update here: about.me/update
Christopher Su
@parisrouz Thanks for the update link. Was really confused there for a second when I logged in and everything looked the same as before...
AlexDeny
Is this design for VIP users or....? I don't see a way to turn it on.
Tony Conrad
@seobaby you can update at about.me/update
orliesaurus
IMHO "about.me" should have spent their money into creating a "business card/resume portal" viable solution for the next generation rather than simply re-designing their ui. I mean, if I wanted to go on Tumblr I would have just gone on Tumblr ;)
Zach Herbert
@orliesaurus I feel like about.me is the new resume- a hub that links to your different profiles (linkedin, git, medium, etc)
orliesaurus
@zachherbert they are clearly missing the "attach about.me profile resume" button on all major recruiting sites then ;)

This redesign is super clean and easy to setup. Adding social links also makes me realize that I probably have a few too many..
Ben Tossell
I've been seeing a lot of buzz about this new release on Twitter. Awesome to see it out :) Congrats @tonysphere - can you tell us about the updates?
Alan Cassinelli
I really like the redesign. I used vizify back in the day but it got acquired so I've been looking for something to replace it. This looks perfect
Victor Bercaru
Love it because it brings more clarity and better readability. +1 However, I don't get it why you don't allow a custom call to action in the spotlight section? It would be really helpful to have my own CTAs . Social links - please add https://angel.co/ !!!
Tony Conrad
@victorbercaru I think we'll end up enabling custom spotlights but right now we want to normalize the data (it enhances searchability, etc) but I get your point
Sharee Loeffler
Loving the updates. Super clean design.

Sweet! This looks great. Here's my updated profile:

Great update. I'd love the addition of the "Chat to me" Spotlight. http://about.me/shaun
Schlomo Rabinowitz
Interesting. My about.me page looks super cluttered with the old modules now. Time to change! http://about.me/schlomo
Zoë Björnson
@schlomo you can head over to https://about.me/update to get your new page!
Tony Conrad
@schlomo Hi Schlomo - we moved you over to the new format early. Thanks for making your awesome page.
Daylen Sawchuk
Hey @tonysphere, why not add @ProductHunt under social links. Also, it would be awesome to let users change the text of their spotlight button. By the way, yelp.ca links don't work with the @Yelp option under social links.
Ryan Hoover
@askdaylen great idea 😊
Liora
The setup wizard is slick and intuitive! Well done. I find it strange that i could not customize my URL handle. Is there any reason in particular for that?
Sagar Mehta
This is an interesting redesign, and something that finally pushed me to update my page after ages. Looking forward to playing around with this.
