Hello, Product Hunt! 🚀 You are on the hunt for interesting articles around the web, open 100 tabs and end up… not reading them. Sounds familiar? As someone who loves to consume extensive written web content like scientific articles but often struggles with time constraints, I developed this tool to transform the way we interact with online information. AI Summary Helper uses the latest GPT-3.5 model to generate concise, tailored summaries of any web article instantly. It’s perfect for those who need a quick digest or want to deep dive later. This extension is designed to enhance productivity and reading efficiency, seamlessly integrating with tools like Reabble's Send To Kindle for an enriched reading experience on your favorite devices. Available as - Individual Bookmarklet (works with any browser, even on your phone!) - Chrome Plugin All you need to get started is an OpenAI API key and sufficient credit on your account. I might add different platforms / local models or a convenient subscription model later - but this will stay open source and users will be able to pick their preferred option. I’m thrilled to invite you all to try AI Summary Helper and enhance your browsing experience. I look forward to your feedback and questions. Let's reclaim autonomy in what to read and dive in topics you could not grasp before - e.g. due to expert language. Let's make reading on the web easier and more accessible for everyone! 🧪 BETA STAGE Feel free to contribute on GitHub to improve upon the insertion logic and other features. Join the conversation and let's discuss how AI Summary Helper can change the way you read online! 📝 EDIT: People were asking about the standard prompt. Here it is: { role: 'user', content: 'Summarize in valid html format with sections:' + prompt }, The "prompt" is the part that can be adjusted by you. This is the default prompt which is active if no other prompt was defined: (I figured h3 headlines work best for me - feel free to copy and adjust :)) "h3 section: Article summary section with creative title where you explain it like I'm five what's the deal with the article. h3 section: More extensive summary with a bit more detail (4-5 sentences). h3 section: Make a fun reference to the topic related to my competence as a UX designer. h3 section: make fun about the topic like a standup comedian. h3 section: related book and media recommendations. h3 section: if additional questions are provided, answer them in a serious and engaging way. Add emojis, add hashtags, use html, highlight interesting parts, word limit: max 1000 - as much as you think is appropriate"

Looks good, need to try. A useful feature could be that the user enters a list of URLs, and the browser automatically visits the links one by one and then saves or send all the summaries in one go. Is that feasible
Phil Wornath
@to_p Great one - will add it to the backlog for the future 🙌. EPubPress does that in a similar way actually - you can bundle different articles (by having all the tabs open), it "presses" them together in one EPub file and sends them to Kindle https://epub.press/. Since I prefer this "magazine" approach compared to a separate document for each article, I wanted to integrate there first but had not enough time to review their tech stack / codebase and find out where to insert the OpenAI part. However since AI Summary Helper inserts right into the content you can already use it in combination with EPubPress.

@philwornath Thanks a lot for your reply! I fully agree it would be good to have all summaries in one epub file (or as csv/xls/google sheet). I'm not sure to understand your sentence "However since AI Summary Helper inserts right into the content you can already use it in combination with EPubPress."epubpress sends the entire website text (minus comments and navigation). So how should I use epubpress and aisummaryhelper together?

Congrats on the launch! How customizable are the summaries generated by the AI Summary Helper?
Phil Wornath
@anastasiia_stepko Very customizable :) My custom prompt looks like that and gives me a consistent yet engaging result across different topics: - Article summary section with creative title where you explain it like I'm five what's the deal with the article. - More extensive summary with a bit more detail (4-5 sentences). - Make a fun reference to the topic related to my competence as a UX designer. - Make fun about the topic like a standup comedian. - Related book and media recommendations. - If additional questions are provided, answer them in a serious and engaging way. Add emojis, add hashtags, use html, highlight interesting parts, word limit: max 1000 - as much as you think is appropriate`;

First of all, congratulations on the launch of AI Summary Helper🚀 You have created a cool tool! But I want to ask something. When I tried to install the extension, why did a warning message appear saying "This extension is not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing"? I hope to get the best answer from you, team!

Sounds useful. Will give it a try. One extension that I can immediately think about is to stitch together a summary based on multiple websites I visited in a single sitting (available in the browser history). Eg. Whenever I am researching something, I never visit websites individually & my knowledge graph gets filled by picking up different pieces of information from different websites that I visited in quick succession. So a combined summary of all those pages would help.
