Should have provided it with iPhone 7.
Gabriel Lewis
@sidrock28 I was going to upgrade if they did, instead I'll be keeping my iPhone 6 Plus another year
Matt Galligan
@sidrock28 And would you have been ok with the price of the phone going up $150?
Sid
@mg The price of 512 GB SSD module in 2012 was 800+ $. Price of the Retina MacBook Pro as compared to standard MacBook Pro was little higher (The top end rMBP was 199$ more than the standard with the same spec minus SSD, I own one. But I'm certain it was only 100$ more than the 2011 Unibody MacBook Pro). Now the price of a 512 GB SSD is significantly lower but the price of the rMBP remains the same. This is how Apple should have played with the AirPods as well. Should have included in the iPhone 7 box at the same cost or maybe to cover the manufacturing cost. This would push the demand for Bluetooth headphones bringing the cost down and Apple can be credited for their role in making wireless audio mainstream.

My immediate thought: I am going to lose these instantly.
Cassidy Williams
@holly_chisholm SAME. I can barely keep track of my wired earbuds, and now I've got to keep two AND make sure they don't fall out. I really like being able to take out one bud and let it hang while I talk to people, and now I'll just have to *gulp* hold it. First world problems to the max.
Randy Ellis
@cassidoo @holly_chisholm Be on the lookout for a $30 3rd party rubber slip-on option for these in the near future. So you can have the one-ear out as you chat on the phone. I'm almost certain. But just another thing for you to carry.
Holly Chisholm
@iamrandyellis @cassidoo How about a silicone "nun-chuck" attachment that basically attaches the two together imitating a traditional headphone cord. ha.
Cliff Dailey
@holly_chisholm You had me at "my immediate thought" 😄
Audley Harrison MBE
I am going to give these as a present for the wife. Bearing in mind the cost, its worth investing in a strap so your investment doesn't slip down a drain or something 🙈 @holly_chisholm I saw the Courage (never lose your AipPods) strap, and the $8 price is a no brainer ... maybe not the most stylish looking, but it's practical in saving your investment in the Air Pods 🎁
David Chang
It's like two cigarettes hanging on your ear from the front.
Jesse Wallace
@chang2301 Wow, that couldn't look any more stupid. Offense only to Apple's design team, btw :)
Joshua Pinter
@chang2301 A time when I wish there was a downvote button on Product Hunt.
Simon Isaacs
These are: a) Horrible looking b) A few steps behind the competition c) A sign of Apple's downward spiral d) All of the above?
Jack Smith
@simon_isaacs I wouldn't dispute any of those points. But what about them would you say is behind the competition?
Simon Isaacs
@_jacksmith the headphone / earphone market has grown considerably and there are dozens of players with wireless earphones that don't look so idiotic. This is Apple's New Coke moment.
Matt Galligan
@simon_isaacs @_jacksmith Ok, so you're saying the design is steps behind the competition? Aside from Bragi's and Samsung's bud-only design, both of which are pretty terrible at this point, what's behind?
Daniel Wyss
@simon_isaacs I wouldn't say, that they're looking so bad. And with the box for reload, this style makes sense. Anyway... a matter of taste. But why behind the competition?
Simon Isaacs
@wyssdaniel who has come out excited by the design of these silly things? Would be interested to see one credible piece hailing what these look like on... Just reminds me of Something About Marry
Tarun Gangwani
The design looks great, and the wireless experience seems a lot better. At more than $100, the price point competes directly with Bose and others, which no longer qualifies as an instant purchase for me. Overall, the move to wireless is positive and this is yet another bold step for the company to make. Also: RIP "The Headphone"
Jack Smith
@tarungangwani I'd challenge that. I'd say that the design with the stick looks kind of terrible
Tarun Gangwani
@_jacksmith Personally think they look great. Anyway, design is how it works ... we'll see how they feel and sound when they hit the shelves.
Nicholas Sheriff
@_jacksmith @tarungangwani Steve Jobs would never have approved of this crap...it seems like they are literally just rushing stuff. It doesn't at all feel like the Apple of yesterday where they really took the time to get things right on so many basic levels. The whole thing about Courage was the reason why they removed the headphone jack lol really Courage!
Hugo Alves
@nicholassheriff @_jacksmith @tarungangwani "Steve Jobs would never have approved of this crap" Well, Steve Jobs isn't running Apple anymore.

Instant bluetooth, light weight, no cords and a case that recharges means that you'll find yourself using the Airpods far more than normal wired headphones. Great for workouts too. The perfect gift for people who spend a lot of time making calls or listening to podcasts or music.

Pros:

The best Apple product since the iPhone.

Cons:

Won't fit everyone's ears. Siri is still behind so you'll want to disable it as a control mechanism.

Scott
I'm really curious if these will stay in if you start moving faster than a brisk walking pace
André J
@scotty_mcq Airpod + rubberband = safely attached to your ears.
Cole Schiffer
These are cool but not for $160
André J
@crumbdaddy it's 159$ and thats not the problem...the problem is the 649$ accessory you have buy to use these

Apple AirPods: The new smart wireless headphones you now must* have *To not carry an adapter because no more headphone jack in the iPhone 7
Ben Tossell
Remember when people looked at people with Bluetooth headsets on and thought they looked ridiculous? Nuff said.
Max Guttman
@bentossell tbh I still think they look ridiculous but I get your point
Matt Broberg
@bentossell I'm with @maxwellhallel here - they're still a social faux pas to wear around unless you're a limo driver. All I see with this design is *two* pairs of Bluetooth on the same person. 😭
Eric Ulevik
@bentossell Yes, I still say they look ridiculous. And so do the AirPods. Interestingly, hearing aids don't look ridiculous - presumably because they try to be less visible.
Kristian Kabuay
The desgin is ugly with the icicles sticking out of your ears
Igor Kuznetsov
Looking forward to Apple's first mobile game - AirPods Go - if you know what I mean.
Jonas Petermann
Absolutely stunning. Good bye Dash. Really like the charging case (24h battery life) and the auto connection if you open the case. For 160.- buck not cheap but I will buy them anyways...
Matthew Hui
@jonas_petermann It looks like the old earbuds without the wire. How is that stunning
Jonas Petermann
@matthui It is indeed stunning to pack 5h of battery, bluetooth, microphones and IR sensors in the same "old" form factor even without visible charging connectors like the competition does. And I have no problem what so ever with the fit of the earbuds but I know a lot of people do...
Jack Dweck
Pros:

The best Apple product since the iPhone. I don't go anywhere without my AirPods.

Eric Willis
I'm looking forward to trying these out. The original earphones are too big for me ears so hopefully these fit better.
Joost Schuur
@erictwillis The more recent wired earbuds from Apple fell out of my ears all the time. Complete dealbreaker for me to even try these.
braxton
Ever dreamed about charging your earbuds? Paying $150 for a pair? Swallowing them? Now you can with the new Apple AirPods
Kabir Shah
100% chance I'm going to lose these (if I had the money of course)
Brian Roach
Wonder what kind of radiation footprint these things put out directly next to your brain. I, personally, I am still very skeptical of wireless wearables. The long-term health effects are not known yet, but the convenience of using them is definitely here.
ᴊᴜʟɪᴇɴ.

There are just an amazing piece of technology, they work great, stay and feel pretty good in the ears and they totally helped me forget 3.5mm audio jack... what a courage!

Pros:

Super easy to use, great audio quality and battery, seamless.

Cons:

Design is okay to me but that's not the case for everybody watching me in the street! :D

Jack Wheeler
I think the product is interesting. It's really well-suited for people who are on the go, who hate that their cord gets in the way. The battery life is okay - however I don't know about the battery life comparable products. The price does seem in line with high-end headphones, and I think that the voice activation is nice. Personally, the best value of EarPods is the mic/audio control dongle. The AirPods seem to do a lot more than just that... I also asked a few real folks to voice their opinion and chime in on the conversation. You can view their video feedback here: https://sprint.dscout.com/s/7hn6...
