Hi @yokokawa244 are you aware that this logo is very similar to a logo I made for a client 5 years ago? https://dribbble.com/shots/30626...
Edit: Turns out this product is a product of a company I worked for in the past. They tweaked the logo I made for them and repurposed it for their current project. :)
@yokokawa244 Man, I should have looked up your name in my email archive! I'm sorry. :D I did notice the other website has a new (awesome) alpaca. I personally like the shapes of my red alpaca a bit better, but I'm glad to see it lives on! :) If you need any help/tweaks, do let me know.
Looks great! I have enjoyed working with Alpaca since last summer. Now I can stop rounding to the nearest share. One wish-list item would make this perfect: let OCTO orders work with trailing stops please 🙏🏻.
@ryanwmark we have same business models as other brokerage firms that work with execution broker partners receiving payment for order flow to enable commission-free, as you may know, we disclose this on 606 report publicly how we make money :)
@ryanwmark For those of you wondering why this is important: Alpaca and most, if not all commission-free brokers sell non-personal user data to other brokers and hedge funds. This helps the other brokers gain an unfair advantage when trading (because they know in advance the behavior you have, what's your tolerance to risk, where your stops are etc.)
In other words, you don't pay the commission but you play your game with the cards on the table, ~which basically means around 70% of the retail traders (meaning you) lose money~ ok, to be fair they lose money of a lot of other reasons too.
The second problem with this is that for these brokers you're not the customer, you're the product. For example, in the GME craze some brokers stopped trading $GME when it started to grow too fast, blocking retail investors to join the craze and hurt their true customers (aka the people that pay them for your data, the hedge funds)
Hey Product Hunt -- I am co-founder/CEO at Alpaca, and excited to have @hnshah hunt this for us! Read on for the details...
We have worked to make US stock trading API more approachable making fractional trading available, and it’s, of course, commission-free trading🤩
_____
Alpaca Fractional Trading API allows you to trade fractional shares as little as $1 (and working on making it even smaller now 🤓). It’s designed to enhance flexibility when you build trading algorithms and fintech applications.
Alpaca Fractional Trading API benefits:
---
🌻 2,000 equities & ETFs today and expanding
🥁 Trade fractional shares as little as $1
💎 API to do algorithmic trading and build fintech apps
🆓 Commission-free fractional trading, of course
What can I use this for:
---
Alpaca Fractional Trading API is designed for makers and developers to build trading/investing applications and algorithmic trading strategies.
• Hundred thousands of makers and developers are already active on the Alpaca platform and slack community
• Alpaca offers both paper trading and live trading environment (securities are offered by Alpaca Securities LLC)
• Fractional works inside of already existing Alpaca Trading API, and here is the detailed instruction https://alpaca.markets/learn/fra...
How can I get it:
---
Go through the ProductHunt link to sign up for an Alpaca account, so that you can access Alpaca Fractional Trading API. It is available for all Alpaca users to try out in paper trading. Today, live trading is available only for the US residents👍
--
Alpaca does not make recommendations with regard to fractional share trading, whether to use fractional shares at all, or whether to invest in any specific security. A security’s eligibility on the list of fractional shares available for trading is not an endorsement of any of the securities, nor is it intended to convey that such stocks have low risk. Fractional share transactions are executed either on a principal or riskless principal basis, and can only be bought or sold with market orders during normal market hours.
I love this product! I've been waiting for the fractional trading API ever since I discovered Alpaca. A couple weeks ago I wrote about how to use this new API + Cloudflare Workers to create a really simple DCA trading bot.
