Hey Product Hunt! We’re very excited to share Wildfires by AreaHub with you today. We set out to create AreaHub after we spent hours trying to access information about the environmental health of our local areas. AreaHub is a one-stop, nationwide platform built with transparency and science-based information, which people especially need in a world with a rapidly changing climate and increasing environmental risks. Our wildfires portal, Wildfires by AreaHub, is a natural extension of AreaHub’s platform. It features a nationwide interactive map with fire and air quality information, as well as local reports with nearby active fires, personnel assigned to large fires, and the containment status, as reported by responding teams. According to the NIFC, over 7 million acres in the U.S. were burned by wildfires last year. The 2021 Western wildfires cost an estimated $10.9 billion in damages, as reported by NOAA. Every year, it seems like Americans are confronted with more and more weather and climate disasters. With Wildfires by AreaHub, people can keep an eye on the wildfire season, their air quality, and any nearby fires in their area. Soon, users will also be able to sign up for notifications for wildfires and other environmental hazards near their areas. We are really proud of this project but would appreciate any feedback. Happy to answer any questions!

@playsandmusicals thanks Michael for the feedback! Glad you found it thought provoking. It’s exactly what motivated us to provide this service! With regards to the interactive map, I completely agree that it’d be great to have the info available immediately when a user clicks on a fire incident! I took a look at Citizen and definitely see some parallels with their map interface. Thanks for the reference, we’ll definitely consider your design suggestions as we improve our maps! For sure! I live in a pretty urbanized place myself in CA and have been looking for ways to expand our current products to give that more “hyper local” view that’s relevant for a specific community. Feedback like this helps us figure out what data is relevant for our users! So much appreciated! Stay tuned! We have some pretty neat things in store for the near future!

As a co-founder, I am thrilled that AreaHub is beginning to empower people to make healthier or wiser decisions. We designed this platform to solve a problem that we encountered when we tried to research our areas and discovered that local environmental health information was generally hard to find, scattered, and not clearly presented. AreaHub offers extensive local climate and environmental information about any area in the US - with much of it for free. We are excited to hear feedback from the Product Hunt community to understand what is working and what we can improve.
