Basecamp Personal - a completely free version of Basecamp designed with freelancers, students, families, and personal projects in mind. Use it for hobbies, weddings, small events, side projects, volunteer gigs, etc.
You guys being amazing as always @jasonfried ! Can't wait to see what it can do for individuals.
Do you have any plans for a new version of Basecamp for teams?
Keep rocking!
I have been using Basecamp on and off on various projects over the years.
My cofounder and I use other standard collaboration tools for other engagements (outside of our startup). I must say having Basecamp as a place to call home for our startup, where everything is encapsulated away from all the other tools out there, is simply a big part of its value.
What else can I say, here's a simple feature that is worth gold: I setup an Automatic Checkin with Basecamp, and I called it the Daily Standup (coming from an agile development background). This features allows us to get a daily feel of how the rest of the team is progressing.
Basecamp 3 (on which I believe Basecamp is based) is the result of over 10 years of iterations of Basecamp 1 and 2.
As a Rails developer and a fan of Basecamp and many of the team's associated work philosophies, I can say, do your self a favour, simplify your work life and get your self an account ;)
Hey @andy_didorosi! Didn't this actually come out awhile ago? Just asking out of curiousity...I've actually been using itntonplan my wedding for the past couple months! haha. So nailed that one!
Unrelated sidenote: loved the interview on rework, and gotta love Detroit!
Why only 3 projects? What if you have horrible ADHD and always have 300+ projects going on at the same time? (Todoist can only handle 81 projects... le sigh!)
Wow. I used to use the older Basecamp 2 free version for my personal project. Then used Basecamp 3 for my work, but was always missing out on all the amazing features for my personal projects. Really happy to see the new free for personal use edition.
@andy_didorosi haha yeah I only just started but so far it is making me feel calmer. I was previously documenting Slack notes into Notion which was also getting crowded with categories. This Basecamp thing seems to just work, it's not overwhelming
Still one of the most practical and no-frills collaboration tools of its niche.
I love the fact that Basecamp is a great-grandpa who actually looks younger, fresher and stronger than all the other new kids around it..
This is a great move. I love Basecamp, but have trouble justifying the price. I've switched my methodology to Trello, but love this step in the right direction for them.
Congrats @jasonfried@dhh@rjs, looks great & smart repurposing of Basecamp for this audience. I've always struggled finding the balance for personal project management between to-do list tools (urgh) and full-blown team project management tools which tend to be overkill. Going to give this a try π
@jasonfried@dhh@rjs@marcusataylor Thanks for the warm words. I feel we've built something very special and if it can be useful to a wider array of people then that's great!
