This is really helpful for people who wants to do MS in HCI. It has everything about all universities in so much detail. It must have required huge amount of research.
@swati_rai Hi Swati, thank you so much for your feedback. I am glad you found it helpful. I am constantly trying to take some time to update new courses / universities. I will be adding advance search features as well to help people filter out universities.
It did took a major effort to get that core essence of why one should choose a particular university / major? I believe rankings don't matter. Every HCI/UX course (with their university) have unique offerings that somewhat always differ from other programs. Hence, it becomes very necessary to do the research. I did that, and thought of sharing it with the community :)
Thank you again.
👋 Hey everybody at PH!
I am Shivam. I am from India. I am currently working as a Software Engineer at a digital firm headquartered in California. I am super excited to be here on Product Hunt, this being my first ever product launch on any platform makes it more exciting for me. I am about to transition my career from a Developer to Designer. I have found that good design is the key to winning in the tech world.
I have been looking for UX/HCI programs in US specifically, read a lot of articles / blogs, visited ranking websites, after all found out that every program is unique and rankings really don't matter.
⚡️ Why rankings don't matter?
• Every program has unique offerings
• Every program offers different core subjects and option to pursue specialization through electives.
• Some programs are really old, yet super well structured.
• Every program has different offerings in terms of research, infrastructure, lab facilities & campus opportunities.
• Few programs require you to have a technical background.
• Budget is another important factor to be taken into consideration. Please don't end up with huge student debt.
• Every program encourages different Student & Professional Organizations.
and many more.
If you consider each of the options the program has to offer, you will soon be able to differentiate between different programs and will be able to make the best decision. Watching the (ranking) figures from top sites won't help! Trust me!
⚡️ Where does bestuxschool come into picture?
I have worked very hard, contacted hundreds of alumni to really get the essence of what really matters in the end when deciding the grad school? It's not a small decision, and should not be made without considering everything. Here is what bestuxschool has to offer.
• Listing of course offerings from all over the world, and online / MOOC courses.
• Basic Information about the program (Degree Offered, Duration, Location, Total Credits, Deadline, Entry Term, STEM, information session link etc. )
• Entry Requirements about the program (GRE/GMAT, English Proficiency Test, Personal Statement Prompt, Resume/CV, Portfolio Requirements, Application Fee etc.)
• Cost of Attendance for in-state & out-of-state students.
• What's special about the program?
• Course Ranking from some not so famous ranking groups.
• Faculty & their Research Statistics.
• Research Areas
• Careers after graduation.
• Social Handles
• Housing ( on-campus & off-campus)
• How to Guides included to help you make the best decision.
and many more to come..
⚡️ What's special about bestuxschool User Interface?
• Get detailed information about the programs in a neat, structured UI.
• Completely open-source.
• Included links for every detail mentioned.
• Data taken from official sources and is updated regularly.
• Mobile Friendly.
Going to a grad school is a big decision. Many of you are going to take huge loans, moving to a different country, different city and it can all be very overwhelming. Relax! You are not alone. Choosing a university / program is no rocket science, but make sure you think of what you are getting into, think twice, thrice, ask people, ask alumni and drink a lot of coffee. ☕
I hope HCI/UX aspirants find this as a useful tool in decision making. ✨
Amazing work, Shivam!
Love the UI!
I think this will surely be helpful to students looking to transition to UX/HCI make a better decision in choosing a university that suits their needs.
