Seriously like the concept of this. I've always been keen to use ReceiptBank but could never be bothered to change behaviour to use it. This works with how I work, and that is extremely powerful in any innovation. Haven't used it yet, but kudos for the concept.
Are you planning on supporting more default currencies than the ones currently listed at https://slack.getbirdly.com/addb... ? I would specifically be interested in DKK 💰
Hello Product Hunters,
I’m Quang, CEO of Birdly, we're thrilled to officially launch Birdly on Slack today!
A few months in beta allowed us to build a simple rather powerful Slackbot that manages your expenses.
What makes us different from our competitors is that you’re 30 sec away from onboarding your whole team. Meet Bill, your new assistant and your new best friend and enjoy the special offer exclusively for Product Hunters
- Add the bot to your Slack Team
- Talk to the bot and upload a snap of your receipt
- Go back to work, Bill is working for you : extraction of data and filling your spreadsheet
It also works with a pdf. If you want him to tell you a joke, he can, too.
If you want to know more about the story from our mobile application to our slackbot : http://bit.ly/1LLMJUZ
We're here to answer all your questions !
It worked on the first try with a receipt that spent days in a wallet (read : hard to read). Congrats.
How does it work when you fire 5-10-20 snaps in a row, does Bill wait for a while to concatenate everything ?
Also - Bill does not sound butlery enough to me. Others, how do you feel about the name ?
@degrems Hi Samuel, thanks
You can try it out ! Send as many as you want, it's unlimited. The time will depends on the difficulty to read the receipt (meaning how long a human will need to verify). But you don't have to be bothered by the time because you just need to upload your receipts, go back to work and we'll tell you when it's done.
We had the Bill idea to remind the "bill", the "receipt" to stay in the area of expenses :)
@pforpineapple Thanks Anas, having you guys on board and using the bot massively was a great victory for us. We've known each other for a year and you never bothered to change behaviour to use our former mobile application, I guess now, we fit into your workflow.
Birdly is saving me from the ongoing angst of being an expat startup in a new city. We've generated technical debt in processing our expenses and receipts and wished for something to automate as much as possible. I'd talk about the time it's saved me but, ahem, I'm on Product Hunt now rather than manually adding "oh look, more baguettes" to Xero, so... that's enough of a clue.
The automation works well. Other pure OCR options had the same cost to cognitive load/productivity to context switch to correct exceptions, so I like the robots-and-humans aspect of Birdly. Plus it's in Slack... which has proven to be our engine room for distributed team everything anyway. Digging it.
@davedri Thanks David ! We have a multi-stage process with double checks in case of any doubt to have 100% recognition.
We've been using Slack from March 2014 and are huge fans also :)
Love the idea of a bot telling jokes in the middle of the humdrum that's expense filing!
Quick question: I went over to the Medium post and saw the snapshot of the result. Do the spreadsheets only populate to Google Docs?
@avinashdsouza Hey Avinash, thanks for your comment :)
Today, as an output, we give you a link to a google spreadsheet with data filled into it. You don't really need to use google drive as it's only a link you can open in any (modern) browser. Does it help?
@avinashdsouza We've been thinking about it but we wanted to hear it from the voice of our users. If it becomes recurrent, we could prioritize it ! Thanks for feedback
Great product. I'm sure this will save our team a lot of time. Very smart to connect something like this to Slack. I like the joke-part a lot, would be cool if you let hem act in 'personal assistant' kind of role, by searching for cool gifs our images or something.
I used this helping our treasurer keep our finances clear and in check in a student club I was a leader in. It's really handy and really to quick to get financial records correctly set up and saved. +1 here.
I'm so excited to see this grow. We use Freshbooks to manage our customers and bill (non-ACH customers) via Stripe. I noticed that Birdly doesn't seem to search names on payments, but only if they are listed as an actual customer. Will that searchability change?
