This is one of the favorite things I've discovered on Producthunt. I've started using it this fall to improve my pronunciation and it works remarkably well. I especially like how it finds my blindspots and help me improve them. Keep up the good work!

Hey there, just wanted to add that it's been such an amazing journey being able to build BoldVoice for all the immigrants and non-native English speakers out there!
My family immigrated to the United States from Russia when I was a child, and everyone in my family (parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins) has some degree of an accent. For the longest time, none of them knew there was anything they could do except perhaps watch American movies & TV shows and try to imitate how people sound. The idea of getting an accent coach never felt feasible or affordable.
I wish something like BoldVoice existed when we all first immigrated as I heard first hand from my parents that accent was a source of a lack of self confidence for them, and I really don't want that to happen for immigrants, like my family, and all non-native English speakers in the future.
Since we initially launched in July, we've done so much work to improve BoldVoice and make it even better! Can't wait to hear what you think and also hear what you still want us to keep working on.

@chrissy_laura Hey Chrissy, thanks for asking -- during the 7 day free trial you have full access to go through all the available lessons and practice (as many as you can get through / unlock), although we recommend practicing 10-20 minutes a day over the long term to start seeing results. Happy to hear what you think when you try it, let us know!
@chrissy_laura Hey Chrissy! The trial should give you a pretty good sense of the app's capabilities: you'll unlock all the lessons from coaches and the practice materials! Also, you'll be able to do our 360 assessment as part of the free trial :)

Anything you can share about the underlying tech? Having a product around languages myself, I'd be curious to hear how you're approaching this through AI and how you're taking a user's native language into account with regards to their curriculum.

In terms of the tech, we use speech AI to match the user's audio to the "standard" pronunciation of each word, and then we give the user a score from 0-100% of how closely they matched the expected sounds. Our coaches also personalize the video lessons according to the user's native language. So if you're, say, a Spanish native speaker you get a different curriculum and exercises than if you're a Mandarin native speaker -- since your native language plays a big role in the challenges we face in English.

This is great! Curious if there’s any research into whether native speakers of certain languages find more success with specific lessons offered through Bold pics? E.g certain coaching techniques work better for Spanish-to-English speakers than they do for Hindi-to-English speakers, etc?
@sneha_deo1 Hey Sneha, thats a great question! Indeed the most relevant attribute that informs what kind of lesson plan a student gets is their native language. In fact, that is one of the first questions we ask you when you sign up so that we can assign you to the right curriculum. Each curriculum is altered to include or focus on the sounds or aspects of speech that a native speaker of that language struggles with most when speaking English, and removes content that a native speaker of that language would likely not have problems with. In addition, content is also personalized to native languages as well where the coaches find it helpful to deep dive on a comparison between e.g. Spanish and English when pronouncing a certain sound. As we continue to develop content, we will do more and more work on personalized content for each native language. Having said that, the approach of working on your accent in English is something that a speaker of any language can do well, it just takes time & practice. Right now, we have users who are native speakers of over 70 different languages, with languages such as Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, German, and Russian being some of the more popular ones.
@sneha_deo1 Very good question Sneha, and indeed one of the things that makes us different. Accent coaching is not a one-sized-fits-all, so personalizing the content is super important! I know Ilya already explained our methodology, but let us know if you have other questions, or what you think of the app if you test it out :)
