In 2021, the BottomUp team conducted a global survey with over 100 respondents, resulting in the publication of a benchmark report on emerging technologies and collaboration trends. In the past, we have picked winners such as Voice as an Interface (2017) and Artificial Intelligence (2018). Things have changed so dramatically in such a short time. We decided to go to the source for the most accurate snapshot of technology and collaboration, and interviewed numerous innovators, business leaders as well as customers to hear what trends they were considering and how their teams are working with them. As we gaze into the future, we’ve outlined 8 trends on how we build new digital products and collaborate within a work-from-home reality. 1. User Experience: Consistency is Key. Our report discovered that broad UX themes of user drop-off in onboarding and overall user experience consistency are causing significant concern. Learn how to create a seamless user experience for all your users. 2. Using Technology: Implementation is the Toughest. We found companies have a clear technology path when building a new digital product. The act of implementing outside technology inside the business is the single biggest obstacle. Discover how leadership is key to making platform implementation more straightforward. 3. Single Source of Truth: Unlocks Inside and Out. Access to a single source of truth (SSOT) can be challenging due to employees working remote and legacy systems. But the fun starts when investigating the quality of the data and the version control of co-created work. Let's learn how SSOT can create more value for customers too. 4. Emerging Technology: Low-code is top of the List. The feedback about technologies on the shortlist for near-term implementation was unanimous. Companies are universally considering Low-Code and No-Code technologies for 2021. Tune-in to the episode to make sure you understand the requirements for No-code nirvana. 5. Alignment: get the Band Singing the Same Song. Whilst the 'building' part of a new product has some difficulties, the 'people' element is equally full of problems. Our report found that delivering the core work was less painful than getting everyone on the same page. Discover the two things you can do to get everyone on the same page. 6. Learning: we are all Teachers and Students. It feels like we are confronting different questions and learning new skills after a year of working from home. Up-skilling has moved from a once-in-a-while thing to continuous activity. Understand how your team can learn and grow together, both a student and a teacher. 7. Engagement: Everyone and Their Ideas are Welcome. Nothing has killed employee engagement, like forcing everyone to work from home for a sustained period. As the novelty wore off during quarantine in 2020, a new challenge was presented to product teams when working together. Find out how you can ensure your teams are involved in developing product vision. 8. Connection: Sharing Success Builds Team Rapport. Celebrating success plays a significant role in employee satisfaction and fulfilment in product teams. The act of commemorating achievements forges a connection between a group and serves as a strong validation of their purpose. Learn how to create a flywheel effect with personal and group success. We created this end-to-end trends report so you and your team can better understand what’s new in how teams are building digital products and collaborating within the work-from-home reality.
