Create engaging workshops that combine the best of presentation, interaction, and whiteboarding tools—all in an easy-to-use slide builder. Easy for participants, powerful for you.
I love this — Butter Scenes is a huge update to the Butter 2.0 platform, and makes it super easy for anyone who runs online meetings or workshops to engage their audience with fun new interactive tools — in real time.
If you've ever experienced resting Zoom face — Butter Scenes is the remedy you've been looking for.
To understand what I mean, you've got to watch this:
@chrismessina@jakob_knutzen1 love the product btw folks and moreso, the presentation by Jakob :)
I am surely giving this a try soon! Congrats and enjoy the launch.
Hey Product Hunt!
I'm Jakob, co-founder and CEO of Butter, and we’re beyond excited to introduce Butter Scenes! 🎉
We’re literally going live with the product today - so you’re the first that’ll see it!
If you’ve ever run a remote workshop or meeting, you know the tech struggle: bouncing between separate tools for whiteboarding, presentations, and activities to keep things engaging. Butter Scenes was born to solve that problem—by bringing all the tools you need into one smooth, easy-to-use interactive presentation tool that works with the video platforms you already use, like Zoom and Google Meet 🔥
💭 Why Butter Scenes? We heard from facilitators that using multiple tools often disrupts the flow and loses participant engagement. So, we designed Scenes to be a complete facilitation toolkit! You get all the features you need to build and facilitate a full interactive presentation or workshop, now with even more power and flexibility.
🤩 What makes Butter Scenes stand out:
- 🧰 Complete toolkit: Everything you need for a successful session—from brainstorming to Q&A, polls, and whiteboarding—no need to switch tools mid-session.
- ⚡️ Simple for participants: One link, no extra logins or downloads—just jump in and collaborate.
- 💃 500% more engagement: Keep participants involved with interactive tools like polls, pin-on-image, and structured canvases for clear, focused collaboration.
- 🔗 Data connections to flow from scene to scene: Carry participant inputs forward to build a cohesive, continuous experience.
- 🧠 AI-powered insights: Quickly summarize and cluster responses, so you can guide discussions with ease.
Butter Scenes is here to help you create workshops that feel joyful and go beyond just ‘getting through it.’ We believe that when participants are truly engaged, collaboration happens naturally—and that’s when the real magic begins 🥳
Scenes also build on top of what we’ve built for years with Butter Video. We’ve already had several amazing launches, and know how incredible the Product Hunt Community is.
- The OG Butter launch back in 2021 - the thing that started it all!: https://www.producthunt.com/prod...
- Our Butter Mobile launch - probably the weirdest but most awesome video we ever did!: https://www.producthunt.com/prod... in 2022
- Our Butter 2.0 launch in 2023 - when we felt like our product was suddenly all grown up!: https://www.producthunt.com/prod...
This launch is however the biggest since the first one - and maybe even bigger. A totally new product that’s built on our experience in building a tool for remote interactivity and workshops.
Please drop a comment or DM if you want to chat more—we’d love to hear your feedback!
And even better - try out Scenes today!
Cheers,
Jakob & the Butter Team 💛
@jakob_knutzen1 Incredibly proud of the team and what has been pulled together. Scenes is a huge milestone and marks the beginning of a very exciting next chapter for Butter 💛
@jakob_knutzen1 excited to share Scenes to world - it is the distillation of all our learnings and experiences over the past few years. Proud of the team for making this happen!
@jakob_knutzen1 What a HUGE update @jakob_knutzen1! This looks amazing, very excited to give this a try - I can see so many use cases where you don't need in-depth hundreds of tools, but for many use cases what this launch offers could be amazing all in one solution, that does it all! 🙌
Congrats to the whole team and good luck!
@stefan_bader This is sweet buttery music to my ears (reminds me: music coming to Scenes shortly!) 🙌 Always a pleasure working with you and the rest of team Cello 💛
Congratulations on the launch @jakob_knutzen1 and the Butter team. The execution of both this launch, and from I can see in the polish of the Scene designer is a credit to your product, design and engineering team. I was working on something very similar to this at Mural, so I totally understand the problem space and admire the elegant solution - I look forward to really taking it for spin with my team. I would love to see this become a fully extensible platform that can enable the ecosystem to develop simple, rich interactive experiences for teams, on top of those made possible by the existing scene builder UI. I can immediately see the need for generative AI assist to scaffold scenes based on prompts to make the workflow feel more magical - I think we're ready for that and I'm sure it's something you've been thinking about. Again, huge kudos and congrats on the launch!
@r3trosteve Woah, this is such a lovely comment! Means so much coming from you!
We're done A LOT to make it pretty polished, even for launch!
And yeah, GenAI is up next on our list - soooo many uses. Coming within the next 2-3 weeks, we just couldn't polish it enough for our launch!
@r3trosteve Thanks so much for the kind words and thoughtful feedback! 🎉 So happy to hear it resonates with someone who knows the space so well.
We definitely have GenAI on our list -- watch this space!
@r3trosteve thank you so much for the kudos - really appreciate this 🙏
Some great thoughts on future opportunities! Very much agree with your takes on leveraging AI within Scenes to smoothen the creation experience and bring more creativity would be super valuable!
Congrats on the launch @jakob_knutzen1! Scenes looks amazing—I would have killed for this when leading workshops and presentations at IDEO. PS, I love the visual design of the Seen in Scenes page! I always appreciate when a brand uses an event as an opportunity to "loosen the tie" of the parent brand. :)
@bensyverson Woah, this means a lot from a workshop power user like you!
Hehe, yeah - branding has been a bit of a challenge for this, so appreciate you saying that!
I am so proud of the time for pulling through on this one 🥲 Scenes has turned out to be so much more than what I had hoped for - and the list of planned updates, features and improvements is still a mile long!
I cannot wait to see Butter Scenes in use, and look forward to hearing the first reactions.
The vibe and brand of Butter Video, is fully alive in Scenes - looking forward to seeing what you build!
Always happy to answer any comments or questions - and if you come up with new ideas, please hit me up with them!
Happy launch day 🙌
Following this closely and the outcome is ButterTastic! Congrats to @jakob_knutzen1 and his team on this amazing tool for facilitators, coaches, creators and community builders. I can't wait to see how far this will go.
Onwards Team!
Thank you so much for this @frankopazo 🙌 The inputs and feedback you've shared have been a huge help for us to get Butter Scenes to the shape it is in today.
Looking forward to seeing what you create in Scenes!
Just WOAH! Looking at so many people using Butter Scenes in their sessions just hits different. I am really excited on what's to come in the future for this product!!
I was an early tester of Butter Scenes and have been using it for a while. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Not everyone can always use the Butter platform in full and many organizations (and many of my clients) have to use things like Zoom, this helps bring those elements of energy to something that is more — dare I say it? — buttoned up and all corporate-y like Zoom is (not matter how hard it tries not to be, sorry Zoom LOL). Zoom is like wearing a wool suit, while Butter is like wearing whatever makes you feel truly like yourself and express who you really are, for me its my pink hair and a hoodie, maybe a fun T-shirt--- and Scenes is like adding some of you to that suit, maybe some crazy socks, throw in hat, and if you wanna get really crazy a fluffy feathered boa (if you have to wear it HAHA!)
Some of my fave features... So far (I know there will be more!)
Structured Brainstorming 🧠
↳ This is SO POWERFUL. There's the ability to add brainstorming sections so it's not just a free for all.
↳ You can add a header and a description for each section!
↳ People can add and color their post its.
↳ You can start voting (and make it anonymous) as a facilitator, plus people can add emojis to each idea.
Free brainstorming ⚡️
↳ Wanna start with a template or an image and have people brainstorm over it... yes please.
↳ There's some preset templates like Crazy 8s and Axis, or you can upload your own, just another way to virtually brainstorm.
Kanban 💡
↳ Who doesn't love a kanban style interactive board?
↳ I like to use this as a brainstorming framework for a way to mix it up, sometimes you get tired of staring a a virtual whiteboard the entire workshop.. and so do your participants.
Pin-on-image 📌
↳ I ADORE this one, you can upload one full image or multiple, and people can pin their avatar (OR it can be anonymous with a selected type of pin) anywhere on the image. You can get super creative.
↳ You can add questions for them to answer once they place their pin, and they can answer with an image!
@rachel_davis4 😻 🙏 🥹 my goodness Rachel!
I am super thankful having you on the side as we were building Butter Scenes - your constant encouragement, positive and constructive feedback as well as thoughtful ideas have been massively helpful!
Thank you so much for being a part of this, and sharing what you love the most so far! And yes - there will be lots more (you know us too well 😅)
Looking forward to many more sessions in Butter!
@rachel_davis4 You give the MOST thoughtful answers, Rachel! Thanks for your constant support and creativity -- really appreciate how you challenge us to improve the product and community! 💛
We couldn't have done this without people like you by our side. Thanks for being there since Day 1. Onwards! 🚀
@cheska_teresa looks absolutely amazing! Something I've been waiting for. We use all of those mentioned tools, combined in one just makes sense! A no brainer for remote teams, very curious to play around with your new baby :D
@philipp_neusser oh that's wonderful! Very excited to have you pick up Scenes - would love to hear about your experience and feedback on how we can make Scenes even better 🙌
This has probably been said already, but the launch of Butter Scenes looks incredible, Jakob! 🎉
I love how you’re tackling the remote workshop experience—something we definitely struggle with from time to time.
Can’t wait to try it out with our team and see how it impacts engagement and flow.
Congrats to you and the Butter team on the launch!
@kwadwoadu great to hear that the challenge is familiar! Looking forward to hearing how your experience with Scenes is 🙌
Really appreciate the support!
@kwadwoadu Thanks for the encouragement! 💛 Let us know what you think after testing it out -- really hoping we can cure more of the remote team struggles too!
I'm impressed with @jakob_knutzen1's Butter Scenes mainly because of 5 useful features:
1. Super simple to use - just create either content slides or interaction slides
2. Makes it easy to lead an engaging, interactive workshop on any platform (Zoom, Google Meet, etc) because you're just sharing a link to the interaction space in the chat. So you can use the meeting platform you and your attendees are already used to.
3. The interactions are fun and easy for anyone to participate in. The multiple choice visual polls are quick to create and to reply to, and everyone can see the results in real-time, which is neat for live gatherings. Brainstorming questions also work well, where you invite people to share an idea.
4. The drop-a-pin interactions are excellent. The template for people to drop a pin showing where they are in the world is great. And it's easy to create other ones for frameworks (like the Biz Model Canvas) or just fun kickoff questions that let people share their view on something (cats v dogs or whatever else) by dropping a pin on one image or another.
5. It's easy to import an existing PDF of a deck you have. If you already have slides you can easily export a PDF from Keynote, Powerpoint, Google Slides or any other platform, and you can mix in slides with interactions.
A lot of these capabilities are available in other tools I use to lead classes and workshops — like Slido (polls), Kahoot (quiz games), and Pear Deck (drop a pin, show interactive slides) and Padlet (collect ideas). But Butter Scenes puts these various capabilities together in a pretty simple way that is fun to use and playful. It allows participants to react anytime with emojis and allows the presenter to add a timer to any particular activity without friction or complexity.
I'm looking forward to seeing more templates added to make building creative interactions even easier, and new kinds of embeds and interactions. So far, I'm impressed. Thanks to @cheska_teresa for helping me get to know Butter.
Thank you so much for the kind words, @jeremycaplan 🙌 Really fantastic to hear that you're finding a lot of things useful, and that the setup's simple! It’s exactly what we aimed for!
We'll likely look at templates further down the line. If there's anything specific you'd like to see, just let us know too—we’re always keen to hear ideas. Thanks again!
The one thing that impress me even more than the Butter products is the way they build and ship them. 100% dedicated to not just delivering TO us users, but WITH us. You are amazing, and I'm truly grateful that you continue your relentless efforts to make our meetings better. Heja Danmark🎉
This is awesome! can't wait to try in my next training session!
A question: is this a separate product from Butter video call app? If I already have a subscription there, do I have access to Scenes?
Is there a public roadmap to suggest features and tools?
Many thanks!!
@ahmad_zaytoun It's separate, yes! But they play (very) nicely together.
Right now all access is free, and we'll probably include it in our Unlimited plan :-)
Feature suggestions: I'd recommend using our community! We don't have a public roadmap, but we take a ton of suggestions there: community.butter.us
@ahmad_zaytoun Thanks so much Ahmad! Glad to hear you'll be using Scenes!
Butter Scenes is a separate product from Butter Video. We are going to be integrating it deeper into Butter Video though :D
Butter Scenes is free to use for anyone at the moment, and will be included for everyone on the Butter Unlimited plan when we introduce pricing later.
We don't currently have a public roadmap, but I'd more than happy to share more details on what we have in store!
Appreciate your support Ahmad, it means a lot!
@gilles_bertaux such a great and informative session! Really appreciated the knowledge you shared and how you leveraged Scenes to make it interactive 🔥
