This seems like a much needed better version of the Moves app. Excited to try this out. @colaskirschoff will you be tracking movement between places as well? For example, If I take the train between Home and Work, will you automatically track that movement and attribute it to transit?
@daniel_schwartz We're not currently tracking movements in between stops because it would require us to track many more geolocations, hence resulting in a huge battery footprint. We did create an algorithm to estimate the transportation mode in between stops though :) Hope you'll like the app, thx for the feedback !
@colaskirschoff Awesome. Will see what it looks like once I actually go to a different location :). One last question: Do you expect to have a public API? I'd love to use with something like Gyroscope instead of Moves. CC: @aprilzero, @myusuf3
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Google Location History yet. This sounds very similar but more private and suits those who don't trust Google or any corporation to track them.
If you have an Android phone or Google app installed in an iPhone, most likely your 'Timeline' is already tracked. Check out if you have any activity in desktop Google Maps -> Hamburger Menu -> Timeline.
Lovely, been wanting something like that. I'm one of the few (it seems) that doesn't mind their privacy invaded for the sake of having great memories when I'm older.
Is there a way to add places I've been to before I started using the app? Via facebook places check import? Foursquare checkin import? etc?
@johnnyquachy Thanks for the kind words! At the moment there is no way to add places you've been to in the past, but we're working on a solution in a future version !
@daniel_schwartz it seems that you're not the only to think mention Moves and Gyroscope in the same comment !
@wahoo@aprilzero Really touched by the comparison. We'd love to integrate with the best apps of the quantified self ecosystem like gyroscope !
Very cool app and landing!
I have a couple of questions regarding the product:
- How does it compare to the native iOS photo grouping (time and location)? Are you planning on adding facebook & instagram connect to gather more pictures?
- I figured you were the team behind Snips! Is this project one of many coming up demonstrating the power of the AI you're building? Some kind of B2C proof of concept? Also, can we expect more micro services as this one coming up from your studio?
Cheers from Paris, and congrats on the launch
Thanks for asking @widawskij :)
Of course it'd be great to add FB and Insta connect ! As for the comparison with iOS, we're aggregating pictures around places (bars, restaurants, gym, home, work, etc..), and cross many other different sources (such as your calendar, address book, reservations, ...), enabling you to add notes and moods on these specific moments (like a concert or a birthday) where Apple focuses on aggregating pictures on larger areas (cities / countries) to classify them.
Oh, and good catch, I'm indeed part of the Snips team. But this product is not related to what we're working on right now. So you should not expect more micro services like this one, you should rather see it a side project from a Snipster who wanted to build a cool product :)
BTW, another major differentiator: we're private by design.
@colaskirschoff prioritizing the backlog for this product is probably a beast of a task! I've been playing with the app for 10 minutes and can come up with a list of 50 ideas.. good luck! looks great!!
Hi, looks really nice. Funny to see how these types of products are coming back after they have been tried at least 3 years ago. I remember overtale, memolane and a few others. I always liked them, hope you make it.
@stefanozorzi Thank you very much! Indeed the diary/memory problematic is a long story! We think that AI passive tracking and Privacy will make a big difference in this field!
@0x11ff we're investigating around searching / sharing your list of favorite bars/restaurants, but not yet aggregating it around different users automatically, like the idea :)
@pedro_designer Hello Pedro, this feature means that we track the location at all time, and that has a huge battery footprint, we prefered saving the battery for now and thinking of a way to extrapolate your transportation mode with your arrivals time and distance travelled.
@colaskirschoff Liking it so far! Some initial feedback:
- Would love to see a visualization of where I've been on a map for a given time interval (daily, weekly, etc.), with lots of different knobs to play with. For example, I want to be able to say: show me all the restaurants I went to in SF in the last two weeks on a map. Would be very awesome if you built a robust query engine around that. I used move-a-scopes Move plugin for this in the past but it is very limited and accessing it is high friction.
- Small thing but would like to be able to change from military time to AM / PM
- Really like the stats on how much time you spend at work
Keep up the good work!
@dfinzer thanks for your feedback !
Happy that you like the stats, and I'll see what we can do about this AM/PM thing :)
As for the map viz, I like the idea ! Also we used to have a first version of a search engine, we'll see if we can push a version of it soon :)
Thx man, happy to hear back from you soon !
@palavalli Hey ;) this is our first shot, so we aim for one platform... But if people like it, the next step will definitely be the android version! π€ cheers!
@quentin_zibra@palavalli I'm also very interested in an Android version. Do you have a mailing list we can sign up to get notifications if you decide to pursue an Android app?
