While we're still working on improving our recognition accuracy (especially for more obscure objects and art pieces), it's encouraging to see others who share that same curiosity for discovering the stories behind everyday things. @dineshan_sithamparanathan Thank you - really appreciate the specific callout on the design. We actually went through about 8 different iterations of the UI before landing on this one. Our early versions were much more cluttered, trying to show too much information at once.
Would love to hear which design elements you find most effective. We're currently working on improving the results layout to better organize different types of information (historical context vs technical details vs related items). It's a tricky balance between keeping it clean while still surfacing all the interesting connections we find.

Though unlike Pinterest, we're still figuring out how to handle some tricky visual categories (looking at you, abstract art). The same object can spark completely different insights for different people, making each interaction deeply personal and meaningful. Since we focus exclusively on visual search and understanding, we've been able to optimize our database and recognition systems specifically for this purpose. In benchmarking against ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, we've seen stronger performance in identifying and retrieving information about real-world objects, especially in specialized categories like architecture, art, and design elements.
Our specialized focus allows us to maintain more current visual data and achieve faster retrieval times. While general AI platforms need to handle everything from coding to writing, we've poured all our resources into making visual recognition and contextual understanding as accurate as possible.
That said, we deeply respect what the major AI platforms have achieved. We're still learning from their advances in language understanding and knowledge synthesis. Currently, we can't match their ability to engage in open-ended conversations or handle complex reasoning tasks. We also acknowledge their superior capabilities in cross-referencing multiple sources and handling nuanced queries. These giants have paved the way in AI, and we're grateful to build upon their foundations while carving out our own specialized niche in visual understanding.

A good companion for city exploration. Identifying interesting buildings and artwork while traveling saves me from constant Google searches about what I'm looking at.

@zihui_zhan Exactly! Even as part of the Chance team, I sometimes forget how useful it can be. For example, I was at an european grocery story the other day here in the US, and the store was filled with candies, drinks, and other things I had definitely never seen before. I defaulted to my old habit of trying to google things (in a foreign language) before I remembered I could just snap a pic and learn everything I needed to know. It made the whole experience way more engaging, too---I was having a blast learning the history of all of these famous snacks and candies from poland, czechia, and other places.
It can make an everyday trip to the store way more interesting.

@zhiqi_shi That's an okay way to think about it, but I'd say that the results Chance AI provides are more focused. We really worked on the visual training that allows Chance to "understand" the images and give relevant results. For example, if you take a picture of a building, you'll probably get history and information about the architect, as well as design cues and inspirations. If you take a picture of a houseplant, you'll instead get regional information and care tips. Chance also uses live data and can provide information on breaking news.
So, chance doesn't just pump out generic information pages, it really is quite focused and clever. Give it a shot!

Think of it like Wikipedia with a camera - except we try to focus on just the interesting bits about what you're actually looking at, rather than dumping a whole encyclopedia on you. Still working on getting better at guessing which parts of the photo you're most curious about, but that's the idea.
Hey everyone! Bradon here, co-founder of Chance AI. Just to add on to what Xi said, I'd like to take a second to share why I joined this project.
As you all are very aware, a lot of apps, websites, and services these days are essentially engagement traps, designed to keep you doom scrolling while not really improving your life, or even your day, in any meaningful way. Chance AI is instead designed to help you pay attention to the things around you, in the real world---to go out, explore, and find what inspires you.
And while Chance definitely excels at art, landmarks, pop culture, food, nature, and more, you don't have to be some sort of jet-setting world traveler or wild adventurer to appreciate Chance. I'll give you an example:
Last week, a new coffee shop opened in my town that I had never heard of before. I snapped a pic of a cup, and within seconds, Chance had revealed that this was a small, family-owned chain from North Carolina. It gave the family's story and discussed their focus on charitable efforts. Chance noted that this shop was famous for their matcha lattes, specifically, then gave me a quick overview of matcha and matcha grades, just in case I was curious to explore further. With just a quick snap, I suddenly had more context for this coffee shop I was sitting in and felt more connected to it (and the world around me).
To me, that is what makes Chance different. Other visual intelligence apps can analyze photos and describe what they see in a very literal sense, but only Chance “understands” the image and gives the full story---history, context, and hidden narratives. It's great for travelers, creators, designers, art buffs, and architecture aficionados, sure. But we built Chance AI for everyone.
It's about finding meaning in those things you pass by every day without giving a second thought. It's about engaging with the real world and sparking your curiosity, going down paths you don't even know exist yet.

As a designer, I strongly recommend it! Before I knew Dame Zaha Mohammad Hadid, I really appreciated her architectural design, but at that time I didn't know what her design style was specifically. This product really broke my cognitive barrier in a very simple way! It allows me to have a broader view of the world from the perspective of a designer!❤️❤️❤️

Her passing in 2016 was a tremendous loss to the architecture world, but her legacy lives on through her breathtaking works. The Henderson in Hong Kong is a perfect example of her genius - when you see it in person, it's absolutely mesmerizing how the building seems to dance with light and shadow, with its distinctive twisting geometric facade that seems to defy gravity. It's not just a building; it's a piece of sculptural art that transforms the cityscape.

For obscure items, we use a hybrid approach - our own curated database plus real-time AI analysis. We're still improving accuracy on really niche objects, but we'd rather tell you "we're not quite sure" than make something up.
