Chap not only makes tracking chores simple, it also helps you manage your household whether you live alone, with roommates, with significant others, or with family. It's minimalistic while including things like a point system, leaderboards, and more.

This project was birthed out of a need from one of our co-founders struggling to evenly split and keep track of chores with his wife. We could not find a good mobile app that could do what was needed, or they were too convoluted and buggy. Thus, we began on our journey to build Chap. Lots of mistakes were made at first, but since it was our first venture together, that was bound to happen. It was not easy, and we've learned a LOT since we first started. The biggest mistake was probably when we had a viral Tiktok that brought in thousands of users - RIGHT when we had a bug where users couldn't even sign in. We rushed to fix it in a few hours, but it was terrifying at the time. Since then, we've put in hundreds (probably thousands) of hours of work, given up a few times, had arguments - and most recently, hit a revenue goal that we thought was impossible when we started! The first sale we made felt like winning the lottery, and it's sometimes hard to remember that as we hit new and new goals. (The app is freemium with plenty of great free features btw - much more than competitors. Yes, we checked ;) ) If anyone has any questions at all, we're happy to answer anything about the process!

@paulkim1026 finally a splitwise for me and my flatmates chors! as you said paul there are many apps but buggy! congratulations on the launch
Paul Kim
@purvamjoshi Thank you so much! To be fair we were quite buggy at first as well haha but we are very stable now. Hope you enjoy, and let me know if you have any feedback!

@kjosephabraham Appreciate the kind words! My favorite feature has to be the new leaderboard feature. We just launched it yesterday, so I'm excited to see what the users think! In terms of future features, probably when we create a more advanced rewards/points system

Love this! Curious how you came up with the name?
Paul Kim
@ann_zamudio Thank you! It's funny really, we used Chap as a placeholder name (standing for a combination of "chore" "app") and then we kinda fell in love with the same since we kept using it so much haha

Hi Paul, Chap sounds like a great solution for managing household chores. How does the point system and leaderboard work to motivate users? Are there any plans to integrate with smart home devices for automated tracking?
Paul Kim
@kyrylosilin Thank you! I believe points can motivate people (especially families with kids) because it can essentially work as an allowance system. For example, 1,000 pts earned can equate to $10 in allowance, which users can "cash out" (essentially reset points) in the app. The leaderboard on the other hand works similarly, but you can see points or completions in real-time. You can see who might be falling behind or who may be exceeding expectations!

Congratulations on the journey and achievements with Chap! It's inspiring to see how far you've come, despite the challenges. One piece of feedback would be to consider adding a feature for customizable reminders and notifications. This could help users stay on top of their chores more effectively and ensure that tasks are completed on time. Keep up the great work!

I'm interested in Chap's points system and leaderboard feature, can you explain in detail how users earn points and how the leaderboard works? And are there any benefits to getting a top ranking?
Paul Kim
@jackeye So the points system is very simple in its current state. We plan on making a more advanced version, but how it works now is you can set the # of points that can be earned per completion for each chore. When the chore gets completed, the user completing the chore earn those points. You can "cash out" (essentially reset, though you can always see total points accumulated still) in real life for allowance, gifts, etc. We want to make even that part all in app in the near future. The leaderboard essentially shows everyone in order based on either completions or points (you can switch back and forth). You can also see the rankings based on different time periods (of weeks, months, and all-time). It's just a fun visual way to keep track of who's doing what!
