Love this App and love their blog full of great content and advice about SaaS metrics. Our App is not yet integrated with Stripe, otherwise we would be definitely using ChartMogul. What are the highlights regarding the new features ?
Nick Franklin
@bernardamus Just added a link to our blog with detailed info about what's included in this release! - https://blog.chartmogul.com/intr...

Congrats to the ChartMogul team. I've been using your product for the last 3 months and I just love it. Easy setup, clear insight. Everything I need from a product like yours. However I have trouble finding how to use this new data pipeline. If I understood correctly, it is meant to enrich customer data from different sources and aggregate them in CM right ? In order to be able to graph a ARPU per usage of X feature for example (with custom API)? I almost only see payment provider in the integration modal and wonder what would be the point of adding Stripe + ChargeBee for example. Anyway, looking forward seeing how this evolved. Congrats πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
Nick Franklin
@pierre_dwf The new data pipeline is primarily for ingesting customer and subscription billing data, not yet the enrichment data. The new pipeline's features can be seen if you go to your ChartMogul account and navigate to Data platform > Home > Add a data source > Add a new data source with the API/CSV icon. This is the frontend user experience for the new data pipeline. Eventually all integrations like Stripe, Recurly, etc. will work on top of this new data pipeline. For now the immediate focus is on weening our users off Google Sheets and "Manual customers" to use the new Custom data source as this has been poor experience for some years. Help center docs are coming soon also. > In order to be able to graph a ARPU per usage of X feature for example (with custom API)? This has been possible since we released our enrichment API and segmentation features back in 2015 (you can Enrich customer data with the API, UI, Google Sheets, Zapier, etc) - https://help.chartmogul.com/hc/e... https://help.chartmogul.com/hc/e... (though that's not so much related to this release) :-)
Pierre de Wulf
@nick_franklin Ok thanks the clarification. Just out of curiosity, what kind of data do people used to add manualy that were not already on Stripe for example?
Nick Franklin
@pierre_dwf Many customers don't use Stripe or any dedicated subscription billing system, and those that do very often still have some customers that for whatever reason are living outside of those systems.
Graham Gnall
@nick_franklin looks great! we've been using a string of similar tools to replicate this process. How does it work for mobile apps with no reliable user ids or emails? I'm curious how a developer could enrich or segment these users for messaging if they don't have reliable IDs for matching.
Steven Lu
@nick_franklin it's great that you guys reworked your data pipeline - does this make building integrations faster? (e.g. Segment, Salesforce, etc)
Ingmar Zahorsky
@nick_franklin @stevenlu While the first iteration visible on the frontend focuses on billing data, the groundwork in the data pipeline re-design will indeed enable us to build out the segmentation integrations more easily further down the road.
Christian Eggert
This looks amazing, excited to try out these new features… focusing on data pipeline transparency makes a tonne of sense, and not having to maintain google spreadsheets for manual customers is going to be amazing! Congrats @nick_franklin and team πŸ‘
Ingmar Zahorsky
@nick_franklin @eggertxyz Thank you for your response. We are really excited to be able to offer an alternative to the Google Sheets way of managing manual data.
Jiwon J
Fantastic update, guys! It's great to finally work with billing data here. Looking forward to integrating with Stripe already. Congrats @nick_franklin and team. Thanks for saving a whole lot of time not having to build one ourselves πŸ˜„
Ingmar Zahorsky
@nick_franklin @jiwonbest We are glad you like this update and are looking forward to help you get setup with your Stripe data.

Am I the only one confused by this launch? The presentation video and blog entry are filled with business jargon that makes it not clear what this is all about. Is this a new app? A new feature inside your app? Confused!
Nick Franklin
@geekybruno Hi Bruno, really sorry about that. Did you watch the second video in the blog post? That was supposed to explain exactly what's going live today.
Bruno Barroso
@nick_franklin thanks for the quick reply. I did and got confused when I cross-referenced with the new "data platform tab" on the app which, at least for now, it just seems to be a place for documentation. Very happy with the product so far though.
Nick Franklin
@geekybruno If you go into that tab and try adding a new Data source with the API/CSV icon you will see a lot of new functionality...which will eventually make it to all data sources.

2020 and still no Segment integrations. Sorry guys, but this feels more like a concept rebranding than an actual product evolution...
Nick Franklin
@paulgarreth5 Sorry, we plan to add Segment, both for enrichment (into ChartMogul) and output (export data out of ChartMogul to Segment). But this is a lot more than rebranding - there's a tonne of engineering, new data pipeline, new type fo flexible custom data source that will become the standard technology we use across all integrations. Sorry it's not what you've been waiting for but what's released today will benefit all ChartMogul users sooner or later. (and adding an extra vote for Segment asap)
Jan Čurn
We really like ChartMogul, but the price became to prohibitive for us. Counting the price from revenue rather than number of transactions just feels abusive.
Nick Franklin
@jancurn Sorry about that. We previously had this issue where some customers had hundreds of thousands of tiny customers, and some customers just had a few hundred big customers, but the businesses were the same size. Aligning with revenue (roughly 0.25% of MRR) meant we could avoid needing to continually do custom pricing + it aligns with our company mission of helping our customers grow using their revenue data...we want to help our customers grow revenue (not necessarily users) and then we benefit from that also if we're successful in helping them achieve that. Of course at scale once you hit $10M ARR we do custom pricing.
Aaron Mason
I have only just started using ChartMogul and this feature comes at a perfect time! I compared them versus other products for our early stage SaaS and chose ChartMogul because their packages seemed really friendly for our small and growing company. Great work.
Ingmar Zahorsky
@aaronmase Really appreciate the feedback. Glad to hear ChartMogul is working out well for your business.
Gonzague de Bellaing
Hey we also launch on producthunt today with Mailwarm , and we use your product and love it, cheers to the team !
Ingmar Zahorsky
@yani Thanks a lot and congrats for making it to product of the day with your launch.
Michel De Wachter
Been working with the platform for almost 2 months and it comes with all sorts of fun. Plugged in all the standardized info in, but all manual or CSV. We are now migrating invoicing from Zoho to Stripe (basically kciking out Zoho) to ensure we can push all the correct data automatically into Chartmogul. Next step will be adding segments + looking into adding extra enrichment data. For a future roadmap, linking platforms that help adding acquisition funnels to every user (CLV) would be amazing!
Ingmar Zahorsky
@micheldewachter Good to hear you are off to a good start with ChartMogul. That's a great step forward to automate your data flow via the Stripe integration even though it is a big project migrating between billing systems. We have all the tools in place to help you link up and clean your historic data once you are live with Stripe. Making it easier to add enrichment data is high on our priority list.
Lio He
Does it work with "Tier based pricing" ? Like we invoice our customer based on their usage ... not fixed price subscriptions.
Nick Franklin
@lio_he it can, there are customers who do this, what billing system do you use or is it custom built?
Lio He
@nick_franklin Hi Nick, we currently use chargebee with a simple 0$ subscription that is updated (via a webhook) everytime a new pending invoice is created at the date of renewal.
Nick Franklin
@lio_he Hmmm, probably best to shoot an email over to support@chartmogul.com to explore options, it might be that our turnkey integration isn't workable and a custom integration via our API might be needed. But before you do that you could also just signup for a free trial and try importing your Chargebee data to see how it's parsed, that would be a good starting off point.
Rachel Z. Kaplowitz
I'd be lost without chartmogul. I remember when I used to try to calculate all of this stuff manually. Such a time intensive, error-prone exercise. Now, my sales, CS, and exec team can access and analyze critical numbers in real time. Game changer.
Ingmar Zahorsky
@zisserzappy Thanks a lot Rachel. Your five year anniversary as a customer is coming up soon. :) Our team really appreciates you and the many other fine folks at Honey.
Tim Samuel
Congrats on the launch! I'm a ChartMogul customer, have read through the blog post, and watched the video. Still not exactly sure what exactly I will be able to do differently with this new update/features. Do you mind giving a few real world examples/use cases of what might be possible now with the new data platform? Thanks in advance!
stuey_c
We just started using Chartmogul a couple of months ago and it has been a game changer for us. @nick_franklin, @izahorsky - any idea how long before this new UI is ported to existing data sources? Wondering if it would be worth deleting our current data sources and reimporting 🧐
Nick Franklin
@izahorsky @stuart_chaney1 No need to delete and re-import anything, the migrations will happen behind the scenes...the first integrations to be migrated will be those that are already built on our API, that means (any Import API data sources, Google Sheets, Zuora, Chargebee, GoCardless, App Store Connect, Google Play, Shopify)...Stripe, Braintree, Recurly, Chargify and PayPal will take quite a bit longer due to the fact they were built before we had an API and are architected differently.
JC Pratt
Well done @nick_franklin and team! Always excited to see shit company and product grow and iterate! All my best!
Nick Franklin
@jcpratt "shit company" lol
Martin LeBlanc
Any way to get a new free trial?
Nick Franklin
@leblancstartup sure, just signup for one on the website, if you're email is already taken just do myemail+newemail@mydomain.com (that is if you're using Google Mail as backend for your email)...otherwise just use a different email address altogether
George H.
Hi team, any chance of a Segment integration?
Nick Franklin
@gthartley on our todo list!
Simon Schmid
Wonderful to see the product alive and kicking @nick_franklin!
