I could’ve never imagined people would be so inspired with Startup Stash to actually build dozens of copy’s for other subjects, let alone build a whole WP theme to make it easier! Thanks @piotrkulpinski and @janwennesland, I think myself + @bentossell and @craigjbarber (and the other awesome people who've created their own stash) would've had much help with this theme!
@janwennesland @piotrkulpinski what kid of features are you planning to add in the future? do you have a public roadmap by any chance?
@sliver86 @janwennesland I posted some plans for the theme here already, but we've listened to our customers and grown our feature list recently. Currently, we're planning on adding such features:
- Add JavaScript validation for newsletter and submission forms
- Allow to add custom fields to resource submissions
- Add filtering options on resource listing pages
- Add ability to sort featured resources
- Implement "upvote" button for resources and combine it with views to calculate resource popularity
- Add image upload option to user submission form
- Add ability to change "visit website" label per item
- Allow to add longer resource description
- Implement simple blogging functionality
- Implement Contact page template
- Implement FAQ page template

A nice improvement would be to allow users to UpVote (or Like) entries, just like on ProductHunt.

Just purchased and started customizing! I can't get the menu's to display on site after setting my menu to be the Header nav and Footer nav. Any suggestions?

@piotrkulpinski thanks - and nice work - any chance you could allow users to include an image in submissions to ease the burden on curators and admins?
@passingnotes oh, and ratings may be quite useful as a sorting feature on busy and crowded categories

@janwennesland bought. Haven't gotten a great chance to play with it since we are harvesting soybeans but any chance in future update the ability to change on a per item level the "visit website" button?

@pravilz @janwennesland Hi Pravil, thanks man! Actually, ads can be inserted in the theme already. We support standard banner ads as well as embedable html code from AdSense and similar services. We don't plan on including widgets in the theme, tho.
@piotrkulpinski Got it. Thanks Piotr. I think if I need to add contextual ads (replacing one item here: http://demo.chipmunktheme.com/co... with a contextual ad which looks similar to the item) this may need further customization.
Dope. I've wanted to get something like this. I'm curious, what's the benefit using this over curating through a Pinterest account with boards? Is it the owning your own land and control over additional content? Curious how you guys look at it though.
@scotty_webb Sorry for the delay, but here are my thoughts:
1. With Pinterest or any other social network you just play in someone else's playground which is always risky.
2. You don't have the advantage to be able to launch your product on PH for example and get some traction this way.
3. By using custom website you are able to build your own audience using email lists and built relationships with people which is hard to do on Pinterest.

Interesting. I have been looking for a curated site builder. Will check out. But am curious as to why curation is so popular yet no one seems to like https://www.hellobox.co who was hunted a year ago, but has turned out to be more of a curated directory than a community site. It's is free, lets you have your own custom domain, a fully customisable theme, and has upvoting and commenting capabilities built in already? I think it's a good idea to show you the list of future ideas we're planning to implement and the direction that this product will be going. Aside from the latest suggestions that were given by Product Hunters, we're planning to add following features:
- Implement an ability to add custom fields to resource submissions (let's say someone wants to build a directory of curated WP themes and wants to display their price somewhere, so extra field to enter resource price would be helpful).
- Add some kind of filtering on resource listing pages (this will make sense when we have some more advanced custom fields ready - see above)
- Implement new page templates (Contact, FAQs and maybe some others)
- JavaScript validation for newsletter and submission forms
- Allow to add longer resource description
- Add ability to sort featured resources
Please keep the suggestions coming as they'll help us make the theme as good and user-friendly as possible.

I don't get how this distinguishes a curation site.... there's no added functionality like ratings or reviews or voting... And the feature list (easy install, responsive, customizable, social media links, analytics, mailchimp integration) are all pretty standard features of Wordpress. What am I missing?
@paulhorne Thanks for your comment, Paul. We were watching the "curated" trend for quite some time and there's not too many collection sites that allow voting on resources etc.
Most people just want an easy way to collect and categorize the best resources they can find on a particular topic. While we're planning to add new features to the theme - our main goal will always be to keep it as simple as possible.

As soon as I found it, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it 😄 I have since built my own curated directory using the Chipmunk theme (albeit heavily modified) and I have to say, it's extremely clean and well-documented! I'd be more than happy to provide a testimonial!

Sounds interesting however what does it auto curate from ? i mean it seems to be manual curation based on user submissions only, or did i miss some sort of curation features such as rss feed curation ?
@mitch_menghi Hi Mitch, That's the whole idea of curation, I guess, that the resources have to be hand-picked by creators. We do not plan to implement any automatic content population at the moment.
