👋 Hi Product Hunt community! Claquette is a native Mac app for capturing and editing videos and GIFs. Since fall is the time of year when Apple updates its operating systems, we're also shipping a major release to keep up with the latest macOS design and feature changes. Here are some examples of what the app can do for you: 📹 Want to record your screen and share the video with a colleague? Claquette can record the contents of your Mac's screen, including your webcam and microphone. We also take advantage of two new features of macOS Ventura: • You can now use your iPhone as a high-quality webcam. Apple calls this feature "Continuity Camera" and we fully support it. • By capturing system audio, you can now record everything you can hear on your Mac. ✂️ Does your video have the wrong dimensions? Use the built-in "Crop" tool to cut out the relevant parts of your content. The app has presets for social media services that help you find the right aspect ratio when cropping. There's also a "Trim" feature that lets you shorten the video. 🧙 Want to attach a catchy GIF to a newsletter, but the file is too big? Claquette can convert your videos into animated GIFs (or vice versa). The built-in GIF optimizer also helps you to create high-quality GIFs while keeping the file size small. It also gives you the tools to fine-tune your results. (e.g. number of colors, dimensions, ...). I’d love to hear your feedback, Thomas

Can i capture gifs from screenshare? Ie, if i record my screen can it export as a GIF or will i need to export as video and THEN convert to gif?

Update - im playing around with it and it appears I can! But how can i capture only part of the screen instead of the entire screen?
Thomas Zoechling
@britt_joiner We always capture the full screen but there's a crop utility that allows you to cut out the relevant portion of the recording. The crop tool can also help you to find the correct aspect ratio for your GIF. Since we also capture some metadata, we can help you to crop e.g. only the frontmost window. All of that is also undo/redoable.

@weichsel ah i see now! i think you've sold me. I've been looking for an alternative to Kap since it's been pretty buggy for me lately, and i really like this

@britt_joiner Glad to hear - Enjoy using the app and reach out if I can help with anything!

Do I need to sign in to use this?
Thomas Zoechling
@pooja_j002 Hi Pooja, Thanks for your comment - The app is distributed via the Mac App Store which requires an Apple-ID. Besides that, there's no account/sign-in required. The app is fully native and runs locally on your Mac.
