Hey folks!👋 First of all, huge thanks to @gustaf for hunting us here and supporting our team during the past several months! I'm Ilia (I-L-I-A), co-founder of Cloudthread. During the past 8 years we were building cloud cost management systems at the companies like EA and Lyft, and are now on the quest to help every engineering team out there achieve ultimate cost efficiency in the cloud☁️💸🧘‍♀️ ☁️ What is it all about? It is about building in cloud – AWS, GCP, Azure, etc. – and doing it efficiently. Cloud adoption has been going strong for the past decade, and nowadays most software is powered by major cloud providers. Even if you are far from cloud development, but are using some non-free software, you help to pay the developer's cloud bill. 💸 What is wrong with cloud cost efficiency? Well, in most cases, it is not efficient enough🤷‍♂️ Many companies still do not have cloud cost management practices in place (paying $$$), and those that do mostly take advantage of discounting mechanisms that cloud providers have (paying $$), while only few - largest cloud users like Lyft or Netflix - invest heavily in optimization building sophisticated cost management systems (paying $). Why not everyone is as cost efficient as Lyft or Netflix? Two things in play: 1. Getting right cloud cost management processes and analytics is difficult and expensive 2. Cloud spend is not large enough to justify the effort Cloudthread product solves the first part as well as challenges the second. 🧘‍♀️ Solution Our team's domain expertise and the modern data engineering stack allow us to bring cloud cost management processes established at advanced companies to everyone out there. We’re building an analytics platform delivering low-level unit cost metrics (e.g. $ / query, $ / request, $ / API call) directly to engineering teams. This is the bottom-up cost management approach that makes the difference - equipping those who generate cloud spend with the right analytics. ⚙️ How it works We combine APM data with cloud billing data and get to the core of the system reporting. Check out how it works yourself - install our Slack bot and it will help you to get things set up. Remember, even if you are not building in the cloud yourself, you are still paying for someone else's inefficiencies. So, we are all interested in global cloud cost efficiency in the end. Thanks, Ilia and Cloudthread team ❤️

I was an AWS Solutions Architect for many years, working with different companies of all sizes and they all had issues with cost management. There are so many moving parts and constant evolution, it's really hard to keep track 🧐 I am glad to be a beta user of Cloudthread and use it at my own company to follow our costs as we scale! 🚀
Ilia Semenov
@sysless Arthur, thank you🙌 Your team's insights have been tremendously important for our product development. We are building like crazy to unlock even more value for you folks!❤️
KAMAKSHI MALHOTRA
Congratulations Cloudthread! Massive problem, ambitious vision, incredible team and sleek product - Excited to start using the Slackbot for my organization!
Ilia Semenov
@kamakshi_malhotra Thank you, Kamakshi! Definitely keep us posted on how it goes - we will be happy to get you to precious cloud insights as fast as possible!🚀
Rami El Geneidy
I was beta user of the slackbot. It was quite quick to set-up with AWS. For me it is a quick way of checking costs of our cloud usage. It has helped me to identify issues that might hinder scalability of the products that our startup offers. All in all a great idea! Exciting to see this becoming reality.
Ilia Semenov
@eramismus Thank you, Rami! We think that Slackbot is a really great way to move cloud cost management tools to a brand new level and finally appeal to engineering teams. It is a great way to set things up, integrate processes and get alerting in place. I am happy that you like it so far! We are definitely on the lookout for more precious feedback from your side!❤️
Chad Richts
Awesome product guys! Trying to manage cloud costs is the worst part of working in the cloud, will definitely be checking Cloudthread out!
Ilia Semenov
@crichts Chad, definitely let us know what you think! As you know, feedback is the most precious thing any startup can get😀
Purusottam Mupunu
Congrats on the Launch! Providing Cost telemetry at such a granular level would be a game changer.
Ilia Semenov
@mpurusottamc Exactly. The whole industry is moving that direction - modern data stack finally allows to get to that level of granularity without outrageous investments. Cloud cost efficiency is definitely ready to be democratized🎉
Andy
Hey guys, congrats on your launch! Cloudthread looks promising, and I like that you can dive into cost spikes to learn more. These spikes were a headache for our team in my previous job.
Ilia Semenov
@a56 Thank you, Andy! We definitely out there to solve the real pain - I have been dealing with it throughout my entire career💸
Jeremy Pownall
Wait, so you're telling me with this product, if I go to my head of engineering and ask what our cloud spend will be, they'll at least have some idea?
Ilia Semenov
@jeremy_pownall Yes, yes and yes! That is where we want it to eventually end up! Engineering should have easy and seamless way to integrate cloud cost efficiency into their workflows - in the same way as CPU, memory or storage are currently integrated. Cost is just an another finite resource in the reality of cloud computing. So, head of engineering should definitely be aware of it from the start👆
Carlos Leyva
Cloud based startups and enterprises, definitely need this. It's so easy.
Daniele Packard
@carlosleyva Trying to make it as easy as possible! Thank you for the support Carlos!
Elena Samuylova
Congrats on the launch! Pedicting and optimising your cloud costs is a huge problem. Awesome product!
Ilia Semenov
@elenasamuylova Yeah, cost of data is also part of the problem set we tackle!🚀
Gennadiy Bazhukov
Congrads and GOOD Luck!
Ilia Semenov
@gennadiy_bazhukov Thank you for your support!🙌
Yakov Filippenko
Awesome solution. Cloud providers at the beginning cost you not so much, but later they charge you for almost everything. And it's hard to analyse it manually. I'm glad that there is a service that helps.
Ilia Semenov
@filippenko Yakov, exactly, once you scale things get out of hand way too fast with cloud spends. If you are not building with cost efficiency from the start, you risk to get slammed with cloud bill in the future. And we want to enable 'build cost efficiently from the start' approach with our analytics stack. We are super excited to make it happen!😀
Иван Глушков
Good luck guys! I think big players should be very interested in your product
Ilia Semenov
@bandervans Ivan, true - big players are definitely among the first expressing the interest in our solution right now. They have huge cloud bills and feel the pain acutely. However, our vision is that everyone should - and now can - include cloud cost efficiency into their engineering workflows. This is the only way not to get destroyed by cloud bills at growth stage. We all deserve this!🙌
Onur Kayabaşı
As an open-source software developer, I sometimes want to deploy my APIs. At the same time, I don't want to be old-fashioned, so I need to cloud services I can deploy. But It generally doesn't make sense because of the prices. In this context, Cloudthread seems perfect! Great job!
Ilia Semenov
@onurkayabasi Onur, yeah, our analytics enable any engineering to become more efficient with cloud spend with little development disruption. For teams building open-source I think it is definitely super important. Cloud cost management should finally be democratized just like many technologies out there.
Jon Chee
Absolute game changer! Way to go Cloudthread team!
