@cyupa I look at this and I can't help but immediately think, "Oh, another weather app" and I'm sure I'm not alone. What are you solving with this app that other apps you've used have failed to do well?
Ciprian Redinciuc
@amrith Thanks for your reply. Yes, one might think “oh my god, not another weather app” and I was already prepared for a reaction like this, but I really don’t have time for feedback that is not at all constructive - especially here, on ProductHunt 😉 For starters, it was a personal challenge to build something on my own from scratch and show it to the world and that is the main core value shared by everyone on ProductHunt.🙂 Design, backend and app all built by me, a developer. If we don’t try at least, nothing new will ever come up.🤨 If you bothered downloading the you would have seen that if offers quite a lot for a free app and on top of that comes with some nice features at more that reasonable subscription price: real time notifications, a decent Apple Watch app and a set of watch complications that your bang average weather app doesn’t offer, let alone offer you the possibility to download it for free. On top of that I think it has a clean, refreshing design that sets it apart. In the end, the data is more or less the same for all weather apps, it’s just how you manage to display it and what do you do wit it. And I think Cloudy does a pretty good job at both. 💪 Sorry if I've been a little bit harsh on yourself but only by offering constructive feedback you can build a great community. 👍

@amrith @cyupa Making something from scratch is a great way to learn, but that's to your benefit - for everyone else, it's just another weather app with not a single standout feature (at least based on your presentation). Now, I hope your app does well, but I think it's your job to tell people why they should care about it, instead of expecting everyone else to break it down and analyse every feature - it is after all just another weather app, regardless of how much work you put into it, how proud you are of it, or the emoji / real words ratio of your replies.
Ciprian Redinciuc
@cristianmoisei I think I made pretty clear what I consider to be the standout features of the app and why it's different from what it is already out there. You can say that about anything that was ever built: Facebook was "just another social network", Slack was "just another chat client" and so on. For everyone that has built a weather app the data will be more or less the same, so there's not much room for reinventing the wheel, just new ways of presenting it. That's why comments like "It's just another weather app" are rather shallow and don't deserver much attention. 😉

Been beta testing this app for a while, and I've loved it! Favorite weather app by far

Pros:

Wonderfuly pretty app and great resources

Cons:

None

Ciprian Redinciuc
Thanks, Christopher, as a developer, to get a thumbs up on the design is something really special to me. Thanks again for everything so far! 🙏

Yes, very good design. While I'm sick of too much weather apps.

So if you're someone who kind like Carrot function but don't like the UI it has, try this one. Or maybe Carrot need money so try this one? (Why I say Carrot? because I using it for last one more years....)

Why not competitive?

- the AW is included in Plus, which is free in Carrot (although Carrot need money to buy but it's one-time fee, not subscription, that's different)

- Using DarkSky like lots of apps. And other may even give other sources as a plus (Carrot does 0 0)

- Since I don't buy plus, I cannot say any on AW, but hope it can have the customization like Carrot.

- Not for now, since I just compare the rough one aha!

BTW, I really think Carrot give a rough standard as a paid also subscription weather app, that's why I compare it.

Pros:

Nice UI, fresh new design in today's weather apps.

Cons:

Not too competitive to other weather apps like Carrot

Ciprian Redinciuc
Thanks @o1xahck for your feedback, much appreciated. The Apple Watch does come with complications and I totally understand the Carrot comparison. I've build this (design included) while working a full-time job as a iOS Developer so the time I had to invest in building additional stuff like customisation and other data sources was limited but I will definitely consider it a future release 😊

App has nice pretty clear and nice visual design. Probably, it would help you to stand out in comparison with other weather apps. I don't understand why you decided to use a reversed iCloud icon with some additional kind a drop element above as you app icon? In my opinion, it makes your app to be perceived as less original product.
Ciprian Redinciuc
@ivanmikhnenkov Thanks for the feedback Ivan. I'm an iOS developer so my design skills aren't top notch but I went for a combination of a water droplet and a cloud that somehow resonate with the name of the app.

I've just launched Cloudy version 1.2.1! It includes updates for iOS 12 and support for Siri shortcuts on both iPhone and Apple Watch. https://getcloudy.app

Just downloaded it. Love the UI, are you planning to make a notification center widget?
Ciprian Redinciuc
Hi @lucasmaldonado, thanks for the feedback! It already has one. You just have to set a location in the app settings. You can have a look at it here: https://twitter.com/getcloudyapp... Also, if you have anything that you would like to see in the app, please let me know ☺️
