I've started seeing this pop up in restaurants, coffee shops and boutique retailers all over Columbus, Ohio. The most interesting part is that I'm seeing them replace POS systems that run the gamut -- from Square Register to Micros and Microsoft RMS. I've also experienced the customer side of the experience 2x now, and it was quite pleasant...on par with what Square delivers...almost. They must have a decent (app?) marketplace and some great built in functionality.

@pomajp I loved them when they were competitors to Venmo. Much better user exp than venmo but they pivoted to hardware POS. If you are around Mountain View, you will see them in many of the restaurants on Castro St and it is much faster than Square. (in my personal experience, I haven't had many times where Square went through with one swipe.) With Clover, it's always gone through with one swipe. Their competitive strength seems to be ease of use. I don't know anything about the experience from the vendor side though.

One thing I observed it across different cities (Boston, SFO, Atlanta, Washington, Philly etc) is that, they have been incorporated in all Indian restaurants. Not sure if that's an intended marketing or just a coincidence.
