Clyde is a simple menu bar app that lets you alarm your MacBook at a public place when you step away to do something like ordering coffee, providing an alternative to asking strangers to watch your device.
☕️ We've all been in a situation where we've had to leave our laptop in a public place like a coffee shop or library, only to be left feeling anxious about the safety and having to ask strangers to watch our device.
🕵️Today I'm sharing Clyde with all of you, an app that lets you alarm your MacBook when you go away to do something and if someone tries taking your laptop while you’re gone, it rings a loud alarm.
🧭 We know Find My lets you track your device but what if we could prevent the theft while it was happening?
🚨Clyde is easy to use and provides peace of mind when you use your laptop in public places. When someone tries to close your MacBook’s lid when Clyde is turned on, a loud alarm will sound. To disarm the alarm, simply sign in your Mac and the alarm will turn off. With Clyde, you can rest assured that your laptop is safe and sound.
This looks fantastic. And thank you for making it free. However, I could not get it running on a MacBook Pro running Ventura because when I tried to open it, I got an error message saying my Mac could not check for malicious software. Can you update it to fix this or advise on how I can use it?
@lsherman Hi Lee! I've noticed that on a few macs and the solution is to go to System Preferences (now called System Settings) and approve the installation from 'Privacy and Security'. It should say 'Clyde' somewhere in the security section.
Let me know if that helps! Thanks for checking it out :)
This is an awesome app! I worry every time I make a quick break for the restroom in a coffeeshop. I just downloaded it yesterday and tested it out. I've never seen anything quite like it. It's the kind of app you hope you never have to depend on but will be very pleased if you ever do. :) I don't know what would happen in the event someone tried to steal it. Would they drop it, put it back down and run? Surely they wouldn't hold onto it with the alarm going off. ;)
