@rrhoover great question - i feel like I have so much to learn about being a great podcast interviewer. I've done lots of interviews in fireside chats at events, but the podcast feels different. I think it's really important to bring your natural voice into it, riff, make it conversational, like the listener is getting to be a fly on the wall of a really good conversation. If it feels too formulaic, to preplanned, it feels harder to listen to.
I also expected our conversations to be very tactical but a lot of the best conversations happen around theory, and challenging common thinking. Talking through theory that doesn't have established norms with other experts makes for really good conversation.
At the end of the day it's about making sure you're talking about things that are really exciting to the guest. In our prep calls, my first question is "what are you really excited about right now?" because I know that if we focus on topics that are already on their mind, that energy will shine through in the conversation.
