Amazing! Congratulations on the launch! ^_^ I like the idea, Common Paper provides efficient and nicely done agreements! Is it integrated with Figma maybe? *_*
Jake Stein
@maria_brm Thanks Maria! Figma uses Common Paper, and we are big users and fans of Figma as well. We have plans to integrate with other products, but I hadn't been thinking about Figma in that capacity. Is there a particular use case or set of functionality that a Figma <> Common Paper integration would be useful for?

I think there's so much that can be automated in law! and think product looks really useful, well done Common Paper team !
Jake Stein
@chriscarex Thanks Christian! Totally agree that automation in law is a huge opportunity :)

Do you have any plans to make available outside the US? As cannot get passed the profile section as needs state and zip
Jake Stein
@robmcd85 Yes, that's definitely on the roadmap. Do you mind sharing where you're based?

👋 Thanks @ellenchisa, and hello Product Hunt! Jake here, co-founder and CEO of Common Paper. We’re thrilled to be able to share a new approach to legal contracts. Our vision is to turn contracts into APIs. We’ve been working with contracts for our whole careers, and before starting Common Paper, we interviewed more than 100 founders, lawyers, salespeople, and more from companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies. We learned a lot about their frustrations with the slow, contentious status quo of contracting and what’s preventing things from being improved. The root cause of the problem is that contracts are unstructured and inconsistent. There are an infinite number of legally valid ways to draft each term in any given contract, and things get even more complicated once people start negotiating. Microsoft Word documents with tracked changes get emailed back and forth, and it creates a big mess of unstructured data. All of this means that it’s really hard for people to actually understand what’s in all of their contracts, and it’s impossible to automate the process of following through on their obligations. An API for contracts changes all of that, and we have built some really exciting elements in service of that vision: ⚖️ Open source, standard contracts: The first two are a Mutual NDA and Cloud Service Agreement (for selling software and cloud services). They are released under a Creative Commons license, so they are free to download and use with no strings attached. 👫 All star committee of attorneys that collaborated on the drafting of the contracts. They have experience in big law firms, in small boutique specialist firms, and as in-house at tech companies. The committee ensures that the standard contracts reflect market norms and industry best practices. 💥 Software for managing and automating the contracts. Our structured contract platform is built from the ground up for standard contracts, and it enables direct access to the data inside them. That means negotiation, closing, and knowing what’s in your contracts is faster and easier than ever before. P.S. The contracts and the platform are all free! You can try them out at www.commonpaper.com

This is a really underrated problem. I can't tell you the amount of time we spent at my last startup agonizing over contracts and redlines. Really excited that someone has finally built solution to it!
Indranil Dasgupta
Well done on the launch! This looks like a great product, especially love the propose changes feature! Can't wait to try it out đź‘Ź
Jake Stein
@indranil_dasgupta Thanks Indranil! Proposing changes with structured data is one of our favorite features too :) I'd love to hear your feedback once you dig deeper, and let me know if we can help you get set up
Ed Sim
@jakestein huge congrats! we all know the last mile is solved with signatures but streamlining the back and forth with an open source, common contract will be a huge win for us all! Perhaps one day we can close enterprise deals at the speed of SaaS.
Jake Stein
@edsim thanks Ed! Really appreciate the support

Jake Stein
@anthony_gold Thanks Anthony!
Ben Winter
I have been lucky enough to use this product already and for early stage startups and entrepreneurs it is a massive win. It is seamless to send out NDAs, they are all stored in one place and any unique terms are easily identified on the cover page. I can't wait for them to add more documents types to make all types of legal document reviews significantly easier.
Jake Stein
@bengwinter Thanks Ben! Really appreciate your support and feedback from day 1!
Ryan Markman
Congrats on launch, @jakestein! I've personally felt a ton of pain around this problem and I love the way you're tackling it
Jake Stein
@ryanmarkman Thanks Ryan! We're excited to tackle this problem and try to make it better for everyone
Nadav Kempinski
Incredible to see such a difficult process end up in such a beautiful, digestible format. Excited to see how customizable, easily-tracked contracts change how founders view legal documentation!
Jake Stein
@nkempinski Thanks for the kind words Nadav! We're hoping this makes contracts way easier to work with and understand for everyone involved
Josh Temple
I remember years ago reading about how some lawyers and government organizations had adopted GitHub to collaborate, track changes and version their policies and agreements. It made perfect sense to me how that concept, which has worked so well in technology, would also be a home run for legal agreements. Common Paper seems to be an even better extension of the idea that documents and agreements need an organized and standardized interface for templating and negotiating. I think this will be the future and we're excited to explore some of the open source agreements for use at Spectacles!
Jake Stein
@joshtemple thanks for the thoughtful comments Josh! Totally agree that version control is an important component to managing legal agreements, and that structured data + APIs unlocks another level of value on top of that. Let me know if we can help you get set up
Micah Jones
Huge Congrats! Absolutely love this idea... Innovation in contracts is an absolute must - sometimes takes 6 months to get through negotiations that is not only a loss of productivity but an unnecessary expense from both sides!
Jake Stein
@micahcjones Thanks Micah, and we totally agree! The process can get a lot better for both sides of the deal
xiao z
Can't wait for more partners to get onto the platform. We've been Beta users and this will save much time and energy working with our lawyers when dealing with vendor contracts.
Jake Stein
@xiao_z Thanks Xiao, and we're grateful to have you as an early user!
Ziv Wangenheim
Congrats @jakestein and team! I personally do much of the legal work in our young company. It blows my mind how inefficient and opaque the contracting process is. Whether I am on the vendor or customer side, during the negotiation stage or after signing, I spend endless hours trying to figure out what different terms mean (they are never written in the same way!) and what changes were made in the negotiation stage. Common Paper is an absolute game changer.
Jake Stein
@ziv_wangenheim Thanks Ziv! Really excited to help both on the time saving and understanding side of things :)
Tim Flannery
I got to meet Jake and the Common Paper team a while back. I knew the problem first hand from running sales orgs and agree that there's an underlying issue of unstructured data trapped in PDFs. The progress they made over the past few months has been incredible. If I was gonna make a bet on someone solving this problem, this is the team and this is the product.
Jake Stein
@tim_flannery Thanks Tim! A lot of parallels to what you all are working on at Passthrough, which is super cool
