Contra is the new professional network for flexible work. We provide the tools and infrastructure needed to successfully build your career around the life you want, with zero commission fees.
Incredibly excited for this โ watching @kuizinas and @ben_huffman grow Contra together has been a positive and inspiring part of the last year. This is going places. :)
Contra's co-founder story is sometimes confused with Match.com ad. โค๏ธ
I got a text message from this guy to meet him at the Jane on Filmore.
I arrived and was looking for a tall, dark and handsome guy.
We shared a meal and discussed our dreams.
The reason for me coming to SF matched with what @ben_huffman was building.
I wanted to match engineers with opportunities in great companies based on who they've worked with in the past.
Ben had a grander vision of a future where people's work relationships shape their online professional identify and unlock new opportunities.
When we realized that our goals were aligned we've committed to building this together.
From there on we'd meet every morning, share breakfast, brainstorm on the whiteboard (very old school I know), work together, & take long walks way past sunset.
Our friendship grew stronger and so did our conviction about the size of the opportunity.
And once we realized how big this thing could be, we started recruiting our engineering, design, community team, ... all around the idea of giving everyone the freedom and opportunity to work independently
We've since moved to SF permanently. We've hired a ton of extraordinarily talented & caring people. We've raised. We've built an amazing technology stack.
With todayโs release, we are giving people the tools to describe their proudest career moments, publicly thank the people with whom theyโve worked with, and begin accepting inquiries for future opportunities.
This is the first Contra drop of many that will shape the new pr*fessional n*twork for your independent journey.
Love it! My only complaint is that you're not able to freely explore talent. In order to browse, you have to add your profile, and a budget, and project, etc. The showcase was a nice touch, but too limited. I'm the type that likes to explore more!
I am watching Contra for the last one and a half years; I must admit you guys are committed. Honestly; I even feel jealous when I see your your focus. I think it will be much more bigger when Web 3.0 arrived. Will quote this tweet 5 years
It's been wonderful to be a Contra Ambassador. It made me re-visit all the perks of being an independent creative. I loved giving feedback about the platform as an avid user and a product designer. It's lovely to know Contra team cares so much about what they are building and I think its a brilliant start. Can't wait to see the platform growing and thriving.
I haven't used Contra but based on the messaging and the launch I'm already a fan. I'm the founder of Clarify.so and this is a natural integration fit, our mission is to make job applications rรฉsumรฉless, and achievement/results based. Would love to chat further @kuizinas! Congrats on the PH launch and best of luck to the whole team!
I'd love to set up an account but I can't upload my (required) profile picture! I upload a jpg but it doesn't show up and has trouble cropping the image. Help?
Okay, product looks amazing, it has countless pros (great UI, great idea, exection, good visuals etc), so I'll just focus on the critiques/cons.
As an UX designer, I believe there is some room for improvement.
1. Is the product fully launched? or do I get more options once my profile its approved?
Its a bit confusing, for example: I couldn't find any social links -- I was naturally looking for a footer on your website but didn't find one with all of the info as usual.
2. Its also kinda limiting that the whole Contra experience (at least for non-approved profiles) has not much features. Even by going to contra.com, it redirects me to my profile where I can just view/add projcets. The icons on the header (ones that aren't locked), also don't really explain what they do, when I click them it just says to continue building my profile. For now I can't edit anything except my birthday.
3. There are some features that are also not (yet) presented, at least. For example, when I write a company name when creating a project, if there is no such company it asks me to create such entity (asks for display pic etc). But then once I do it, its over. I have no idea what these "companies" do, and I can't edit what I've created (I uploaded a wrong display pic for it by mistake).
With further analysis I believe I'll also find other tiny aspects like these. Its understandable if we get a lot more options once profiles are approved, but I'd prefer to be less confused about Contra as a new user. If this is on purpose, to make the platform "mysterious", so hyped users would get back, then I guess it did its purpose.
How long does it take to approve a profile btw? I've completed my profile and submitted it 2-3 days ago but still no response.
I'm also open for any kind of collaborations, feel free to hit me up! Thank you for your hard work and I wish you great success!
This is a Meet-Cute fit for a Rom-Com, guys! And then, backed by Cowgirls, they sailed away happily ever after aboard a rocket ship called Contra. ๐
