1
Cooler Carbon Footprint API is a free-to-try API that calculates the carbon footprint of every product or service in each transaction This is the same API we use for our upcoming app, which enables businesses to measure and neutralize their carbon footprint.

Hello! We're excited to finally share what we've been working on at Cooler, especially because there are so many creative and innovate builders here and we'd LOVE your feedback! We wanted to create something that made it super easy and affordable to add carbon footprinting to your projects. What drives us is the urgency of global warming--we want to help businesses take real, direct, measurable action to actually reduce carbon emissions, so we're building a self-driven app that does that, where you can literally prevent emissions at major polluters. The Cooler Carbon Footprint API has been developed in service of that app, and we're pleased to share that with the Product Hunt community. - The API is pretty simple: it's designed to quickly generate an estimated carbon footprint for products and services within a transaction like a checkout or invoice, and return that in JSON. - There's a free test API key and free developer accounts, with the first 25 live footprints free per month. The original calculator was developed in spreadsheets by Dr. Michel Gelobter, one of the pioneers in the carbon accounting space; Michel is now the director of Yale's Center for Environmental Justice. The calculator takes an economic input/output-LCA hybrid approach, based on years of research with colleagues at Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, and others, and has been used to footprint products at eBay, Walmart, and others. There's more about our methodology at cooler.dev Luke has done an amazing job moving the calculator to an API and making it highly performant (after the initial footprinting, which is a bit more compute intensive) and scalable. Simply hand it a product name, description, and price, and it returns the footprint. Let us know how it goes! We're here to help and would love your feedback!
