Search doesn't seem to work very well yet. I search for "Design" and the top 5 courses I get are "How Git Works", "Artificial Intelligence for Trading", "Design Sprint Foundations", "Become an Android Developer" and "Become a Data Scientist".

@david_kofoed_wind Hi David, Yeah the search is a bit rudimentary at the moment. It works on most cases but I definitely need to figure out a way to up the accuracy a bit more. Right now it would help to add an additional keyword, for example "UX design" or "Product Design" but you are absolutely right in that it needs to be improved. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts 🙏

Cool idea !

Applaud its Why and sharing its success with the less fortunate ones. Great cause!

Pros:

Provide a one-stop platform to streamline our search for the best courses and tutorials available.

Cons:

Not cons and rather room to expand as it currently has 9 subjects.

Valentijn v/den Hout
Hi Beth! Thanks for sharing your feedback. Very much appreciated 🙏 Regarding the subjects, you can choose more subjects here if you like: https://courseroot.com/courses/s... (9 main categories but more sub-subjects) and we have an autocomplete of over 600 subjects on all searches that will lead to a designated page as well. Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts 🙌 All the best, Valentijn

Hi everybody 👋 I am back on Product Hunt with a new direction for Courseroot. After grinding away at the product over the last year since the amazing successful PH launch of last year (#1), I wanted to take it into a new direction and make it more meaningful. Not only is the platform much smoother and improved, we now take 50% of the profits we make and donate them to an amazing charity that you can choose ❤️ The idea for Courseroot 1.0 was very simple: make an amazing platform that helps you find the best courses and tutorials on the web. ✔️ The idea for Courseroot 2.0 is better: take some of the opportunity that we have in terms of access to education and share it with those that have been less fortunate. 🙏 As an avid online learner, I have always felt so incredibly privileged with the access to high-quality educational resources. There are so many people, and especially kids, that do not have that same access. Even more so, they might not even be able to think about education because they are simply surviving. The goal is to distribute some of our opportunity to them 🤗 Each month I'll pick three amazing causes. This month it is water.org, Save the Children, and Blind Children's Learning Center. All in their own way they give children a better opportunity to grow and develop. If you want to donate directly to one of these amazing causes you can do so here: Water.org - https://water.org/ Save the Children - https://www.savethechildren.org/ Blind Children's Learning Center - https://www.blindkids.org/ Let me know what you think about the platform and the new direction. I'd love to hear your feedback, and I can use all the support to get it out there. 🙌 All the best, Valentijn p.s. I'll be here all day to answer questions. Just got to run to a doctors appointment in an hour or so real quick.

Great UI & concept. Just heads up, your main tagline on your site has a typo, I believe it should say "Instant(ly) search 80,000+ courses"
Valentijn v/den Hout
@christopher_lee4 Thanks Christopher! 🙏 Yeah, for some reason "instant search" sounds neat though. But you are probably right haha. I am not a native English speaker so I might change that actually. Great that you like the UI and concept. Is it something that you yourself will be using? Are there things you'd like to see that are missing? Just to extract even more feedback from you 🤗

@vvdhout I've paid for a decent number of online courses. At the moment I'm not looking for one, but if/when in the future I do will definitely give you guys a shot :) Btw seeing as you just launched I have a market research service where for $12 you can ask 100 people a question then follow-up based on how they answered and even interview them! https://scoops.io/ You could ask e.g. "Would you want a single dedicated source for all free online courses?" -> and then send a link to Courseroot to everyone who said "yes". Anyway If you want to give it a shot feel free to sign up and let me know which email you used over Intercom and I'll pass you $12 in free credits. Best of luck otherwise!

I like the idea in general though some of the search queries give me results that seem irelevant. For example, I searched for Japanese courses, and got all kinds of courses where the description include the word 'Japanese' even though I think it's pretty clear I want to learn the language and not Manga or similar topics. However, this seems like a great resource. Thanks for making!
Valentijn v/den Hout
@lillach_i Hi Lilach! Yes, you are absolutely right. Sometimes, luckily not too often, the search shows some partially related courses that might not be relevant. It's is really hard to get the accuracy to 100% but I will be looking at some ways of improving this. Thank you very much for sharing that 🙌 and I hope it can still be helpful to you. All the best, Valentijn

Just hope this gets the attention it deserves. And you can grow it sustainably

Pros:

Lovely interface. Really useful aggregation.

Cons:

None I know of.

Thanks Harry! Great to hear you like it 🙌
