Hey Hunters! 👋 Balint here, founder at Craft. We've been working on Craft for over 2 years, and we are finally ready to launch & share it with the Product Hunt community! 🥳 Craft is a modern writing app - It’s super simple to get started with, yet is surprisingly powerful. It grows with your ideas - and you can bend it to work the way you want to - rather than the other way around. This starts with ensuring that it works & feels great across all devices. To achieve this we’ve re-imagined the text editing experience from the ground up - and brought back the joy of writing - even on touch devices. We’ve also combined the best features from both the app-first and the web-first world. Craft is a native app with full support for offline editing and viewing - so you’ll never have to worry about your internet connection - at the same time it has a blazing fast sync with support for realtime collaboration and sharing. It’s incredibly fast, yet light on memory and energy. Craft has all the capabilities you’d expect from a modern editor - from block based editing and hierarchical documents to cross page linking and bidirectional links. You can blend images, files, rich links, code blocks seamlessly, and use the full capabilities of Markdown if you’d like to. Also - your data will never be kept hostage - you can share or export any content in a few seconds - from beautiful web links to PDF, Markdown, TextBundle or Email. During our limited beta, thousands of people across the globe became regular Craft users - for both work & personal use cases. The sentiment we’ve heard back from them has been very consistent - after all the other apps they’ve tried, Craft is different - it’s what they’ve been looking for all this time. Give it a try, and let us know your feedback! We can’t wait to see what you think! Balint

Disclaimer: Balint, the founder is my brother. I’ve been using Craft from the early days of the Alpha. I love how *fluid* it is on both iOS and Mac. My use case is writing blog posts, and capturing ideas on these two devices. I’ve used many of the other cross-device note taking apps (OneNote, EverNote, Notion) and it’s always bugged me how “sluggish” they are or how they do weird things. As a developer, I can understand why: they are hit with the limitations of using web components or default controls on the OS. Craft re-implemented the stack at low-level to get around these limitations, and to have control over performance, responsiveness and re-imagine how gestures can be used. It’s one of those things you need to try to get a feel for: I was sceptical on how much this can matter, until I tried it myself. Craft is not perfect - if you want a native Android app, or a bunch of features - it might not be for you. But if your workflow is between iPhone, iPad, Mac and occasionally the web, I have yet to find something this pleasant.
Balint Orosz
@gorosz Thanks Gergely! We are in progress of building a web editor - so hopefully over time it will fit the needs of more and more users!
Daniel Korpai
@gorosz "I was sceptical on how much this can matter, until I tried it myself." - this is so true! I also had the same initial assumptions way back then, but trying it made all the difference. :)

This looks and sounds (reads) really nice, congrats! Im going to give it a go! Will my files live in Craft Docs or is there away to have them stored in my Google drive? As it possible to for example design a newsletter and export it to mailchimp for instance? What about Medium or own website?
Balint Orosz
@pedrocodina Thanks! You can add files from Google Drive or Dropbox via links. The data is now stored on our servers, but you can export easily via markdown / pdf etc. Yes, newsletter is absolutely possible (in fact we use it ourselves for ours). You just need to export as email, which will copy the HTML to your clipboard - and from here insert to Mailchimp. We also have one click web publishing (example : https://www.craft.do/maccatalyst...) which is very powerful!
Richard Goodwin
@balintorosz Everything looks fantastic! For me unfortunately the server storage makes it a non starter for work (privacy/security). Plans for storage in iCloud Drive perhaps? Or if you’re willing to not sync, local storage?
Balint Orosz
@balintorosz @rgoodwin we are considering as many are requesting though it would mean loss of some features like web share and collaboration
Saleem
@balintorosz @rgoodwin What about a mix? Non-shared/non-collaboration docs stored via iCloud Drive and shared/collaborative on your servers?

This is exciting — a really amazing looking cross-platform AppleOS document editor — built with Catalyst.
Kyrylo Zapylaiev
This is one of the best apps I've ever used on iOS and macOS. There is a lot of love has been put here. Quality is just beyond everything. It's such a breath of fresh air after tons of poor web-based note-taking app. Guys, you're killing Notion. And with backlinks, you're killing Obsidian, and I'm sure a lot of Roam macOS users will switch too. Oh, you've just killed Bear. Seriously, this is an amazing piece of software. Are there any plans to support tables?
Balint Orosz
@kyryloz Thanks so much and super glad you are enjoying Craft! Tables is what most of our users are missing - so yes, we're working on it. What makes it challenging is that we want to ensure they work just as well on small screens as they do on laptops - which is quite a design challenge - but we're making some great progress there ;)
Tolga Kilinc
Hi @balintorosz , do you guys have any updates on the table feature? :)
Ton
Been using Craft during the beta and I fully agree that it's a beautiful, gorgeous writing app. Though I love the look & feel of the app I've got to say that the pricing is a bit on the steep side. It's almost as expensive as a full-blown writing app like Ulysses, with only a fraction of its functionality.
Balint Orosz
@t55 Thanks for your feedback! What are you missing from Craft which you have in other apps?
Ton
@balintorosz Export as docx or rtf, keywords, subfolders, manual sorting, custom fonts, app-wide default font to name a few things.
Balint Orosz
@balintorosz @t55 Gotcha, thanks! Except for custom fonts, all of those will arrive in 3-4 weeks!
Ton
@balintorosz Great! Thanks! I mentioned my pricing concern earlier in the survey (twice), so I hope Craft's value will be upgraded soon.
Balint Orosz
@balintorosz @t55 Working hard on making it better and better every day - thanks for your support!
Chris Gwilliams
This is legitimately amazing, please please tell me there is URL Scheme (x-callback-url) support there (or incoming)?!?
Balint Orosz
@encima27 There already is! (You can easily generate and share deeplinks)
Chris Gwilliams
@balintorosz You beautiful legend! Would append also be something you would consider?
Balint Orosz
@balintorosz @encima27 You can do that with Shurtcuts on iOS!
Chris Gwilliams
@balintorosz It seems you want my money so you will get it! If append is supported on OSX (for Alfred workflows) then there is no limit to the amount
Balint Orosz
@balintorosz @encima27 Challenge Accepted!
Feri Muck
Hey Guys! Congrats on the launch! I am using the beta since March, and very happy with it! :) Although it's a writing app, my main use cases are writing weekly planning todos, shopping lists and design briefs. Really love the overall feel and especially the usability and attention to the native platform patterns on iphone and ipad. The mobile and tablet version it's much better than Notion. No lagging at all and more intuitive gestures. I am wondering if you are planning to add more features like kanban boards, data tables in the future? I would happily cancel my Notion subscription in that case. Cheers, F
Balint Orosz
@feri_muck Thanks, and so glad you enjoy using Craft. As you've also mentioned our primary goal is to ensure writing and capturing thoughts is as easy and fluid as possible. We are planning to add better support for structured data - but one step at a time. We want to ensure we don't loose the simplicity we have today. So yes, we will likely have data tables / kanban in the future, but likely these will be much less feature rich than those in other products you mentioned.
Feri Muck
@balintorosz Thanks for the feedback! Are you guys planning on supporting watchOS as well?
Balint Orosz
@balintorosz @feri_muck Haven't thought about it yet, but will consider!
Adam Wiggins
I've been using the beta of Craft for all my professional and personal writing over the last few months. I love the fact that they started with a touch-first/iPad-native experience, but also offer a native Mac app with seamless syncing. Looking forward to becoming a customer of the released product.
Balint Orosz
@hirodusk Thanks Adam! ;)
Jeremiah Lee
Authoring UI looks fantastic, but a bit of a non-starter for people and their collaborators who are not 100% in the Apple ecosystem. There's this great linked document format called the Web. I think it's going to be big.
Balint Orosz
@jeremiahlee 😂 Agree! On mobile especially web editor experiences are really bad though - and we wanted to address that first. But working on the web editor as well - we had to get started somewhere though!
Marshall
I'm really liking this so far! Slick user interface, super easy to use. Only complaint now is the lack of tables (I see you mentioned that's in the works). It seems like a clear competitor to Notion, Bear, or Confluence. Out of curiosity, where are documents stored? One hang-up I've had with Notion is the inability to store anything locally.
Balint Orosz
@hypecraft Thanks! They are stored both online but also on your devices - so they are always available and you don’t need an internet connection to view or edit!
Marshall
@balintorosz Awesome, thanks! Is it stored online on iCloud servers?
Jared Latimer
Been using for months. It really is a joy to use. Creating complex hierarchical content makes so much sense. Your documents become layered almost. And navigating them is so elegant.
Saleem
@latimerart Yes it’s a really interesting approach. One thing I think we’d love to see in the future is an outline/table-of-contents view for highly layered documents.
Tamas Jaroli 🦖
I started to use Craft Docs as soon as I got my beta access a few months ago. This is the first time I could stick to a note taking app without jumping back and forth between several apps. Although, I still use it combined with Apple Notes, I realized I am using Apple Notes less and less. My favorite feature is how easily I can embed pages into each other and keep my notes organized.
Balint Orosz
@tamasjaroli Thanks Tamas! We love that as well ;)
David
I've been trying Craft for months and it has replaced all my notes apps. Full of powerful features and with a really nice design.
Balint Orosz
@bitomule and just wait until you see how it performs on ARM Macs ;)
Gyula Feher
Much impressed by the usability and smoothness of the product. Honestly do not mind one bit that it is for the Apple ecosystem only, as a matter of fact I appreciate the extra edge that native has on web apps. Well done!
Balint Orosz
@gyula 📱 💻 🖥
Ali Soliman
Have been an early beta user and I absolutely love the product, what I even feel that you did your best job at is including your beta community in the development of your product and how everyone's voice was heard. Way to go Craft Team!
Balint Orosz
@ali_soliman2 Couldn't have done it without the community! And that won't change even as we are launching!
Phelipe Martin
Do you guys plan to add a chrome/safari clipper of some sort?
Lindsey Tropf
@mextremartini I know I’m late to the comment section here, but yes - this is one of the main thing that keeps me with Evernote even though I’d love to leave since it freezes and crashes on me regularly these days and the search is terrible!
Tom Schlander
I am using the beta on both mobile and laptop, but most of the time on my iPad Pro and love it. Tried so many note taking apps, but this is the one. I should use it more often, but that is going to change soon. Congrats 🎉
Balint Orosz
@tschlander That's so great to hear!!!
Probably the best Catalyst app ever - Gruber can finally point to something good! I’m and advisor to Craft and have been using it as a closed beta user for a while now. I love all the care and love that goes into this product and I send all of my product update emails out to my teams using Craft. Pro tip: you can override the system dark mode to be in light mode in settings in. Good luck Balint and the team.
Balint Orosz
@artom57 As our first "true" beta user and advisor we couldn't have done it without you ;)
Csaba Kissi
Looks super interesting Balint. I was on my way to ask for a MacOs version but I dont have to anymore.
Balint Orosz
@csaba_kissi and what's best is that updates will now be automatic ;)
