CryptoCelebrity — Buy celebrities on the blockchain

CryptoCelebrity allows you to buy and sell celebrity smart contracts, powered by Ethereum. There is only one smart contract per celebrity – once you own it, you’re the only one in the world who has it.

Here's the latest crypto-collectible following the success of CryptoKitties. The concept is very similar to Stolen, an app that went viral before receiving a letter from Katherine Clark, U.S. representative Massachusetts's 5th congressional district. The team decided to take the app down shortly after. Unlike Stolen, CryptoCelebrity is built on the blockchain, and not dependent on (centralized) Apple.

@rrhoover Do you think there's any IP issues here with CryptoCelebrity?

@rrhoover Amazing concept! I love B-Chain and ETH! Are you currently still working on this? I'll love to write an article on this! =)

Making money with celebrity faces and names. Let's see how long is it gonna take before they start seeing a nice wave of lawsuits coming through

Decided to give it a try, good mix of celebs to know more about - although they may not know this exists. Cool concept - making ETHETHETHETHETHETH for science.

Pros:

FOMO, Smart contract % for donation to charity (not sure which celeb is verified yet though and long-term fate)

Cons:

Don't know makers yet

This is so stupid. At least with CryptoKitties there was fun in identifying cats to buy and breed. This is simply ”buy x” and hope that some other fool comes along. How can they say it’s a collectible when someone can snatch it from you.

Cool stuff. Compared to the average Blockchain app that's live today, that is. Once a transaction is written to the Ethereum Blockchain, it literally floats in the Ether - er, Ethereum - so I get that it's "censorship-resistant". However, before that, I don't get why this app can't be shut down like Stolen was. After all, it has several moving parts like the company itself, its website's hosting provider, MetaMask, etc. Assuming that not all of them are on the Blockchain, what stops someone like the government from ordering one of these entities to shut down this app?
S. Ketharaman
@raffaelecannizzaro LOL. Any idea, then, why they say Blockchain dApps are "censorship-resistant"?

It's a good idea for the maker, this maybe will last for some weeks and he/she/they will make some profit. Celebrities are celebrities because other people want to know what's up with them; now, if they can "own" Angelina Jolie or Drake, well, that's better, and people will continue buying. To the maker: you've got imagination, well done.

Yesterday- Companies were listed in the stock-exchange. Today - People are listed in crypto-exchanges. Love where the future is heading.

We should use this for political fundraising in the US. Donors could purchase their favorite politicians and then we could all see who owns them in the shared ledger. ;)

Ponzi scheme. Cards have no intrinsic value (they would have it if they were "authentic", i.e. if A. Jolie signed something authorizing this company to some sort of exclusive right to her crypto identity. The way it is right now, anyone can create another identical blockchain: which one is the real one?). Also, the only promise to a card-holder is that someone else will buy their card for more (they even hardcoded this feature in the rules), which only holds as new buyers come in. What could possibly go wrong? Trade carefully.

hi, my name is phil, long story short I got obsessed with crypto games since CK and decided to make a directory of new games as they came out on discord (proud to say almost 1000 members, the most comprehensive directory thus far and considering plans to expand)

That being said, I have unofficially had the opportunity to help with the community aspect with a lots of games. I ended up in the position of managing the CryptoCelebrities unofficial discord chat, (which the developers now use for regular communication), and so far my experience with the CC team has been overwhelmingly positive. They are very honest intentioned and are dedicated to protecting their investors, and HUGELY ambitious. I got a 'sneak peak' of some of what is coming for them and I think its huge. I have fortunately made a significant amount of eth off investing in Celebrities, but I continue to reinvest all my profits because I am so confident in the developers and the direction they are taking the game.

Basically Im saying this because, i know on the outside something like this could look sketchy and unsustainable, so I just wanted to give an earnest opinion. Many others feel the same way about the team. They reinvest a lot of their profits back in the game and are constantly improving it - One epic change they just added is INTEREST PAYMENTS daily for top rankers (I literally get eth free everyday just for being in the top 50) So cool.

Very happy I found out about this dapp, and excited for a promising future!

Pros:

Great community, ambitious developers, opportunity to make eth

Cons:

still in early phases, getting everything set up

Dany

How are celebrities reached out for verification? Reminds me of Omaze built with blockchain.
Ryan Angilly
Does anyone know who made this?

I decided to give this a try. I bought eminem, Kylie Jenner, Dr Dre, MGK and others. I sold the same cards for a profit of 6 ETH. Literally in a couple hours. Had fun. As long as your not the guy stuck holding a 33K Trump card, it’s pretty cool.

Pros:

Fun, made 6K in a day trading cards

Cons:

Website was slow due to traffic

BULLY KING Magazine

Thought this was a joke, bought a couple celebs, they sold the same day. I got an email update and was like "holy shit" I made 2 ETH. I'm not much for gambling so I may buy some more with the profit we'll see. Fun experience

Pros:

Made a little cash, had fun trading

Cons:

Website issues, slow and had trouble loading hopefully due to traffic

Svetlana Sh.

No celebrities at claimed 0.02 ETH, the market starts at 0.97, there are no new celebs released, so it's aweful :(

Pros:

Interesting idea

Cons:

0.97 ETH is what you need to get started NOT 0.02 as claimed

John Does

You can have fun participating in is game using cryptocurrency. You can even make some money if you play smart.

Pros:

Donate to charity

Cons:

Don't get

Calvin Chu
Will this infringe upon people's names'rights?
taxomate

Hopefully they add more features

Pros:

Neat idea, running much better now that BETA is ending

Cons:

None

Blockchain Game
Scam. Developers grab some cash, created other shitty product and just stucked with no idea what to do next.
