I'm unsure how much other devices are, but $29.99 and $12.50/month for testing strips seems like OK price to pay to manage your health if you need to test your glucose levels. Along with using your phone as the computer (which is likely already in your pocket) is probbaly a nice added benefit. If anyone has better insight, please share

@kristofertm I don't know about pricing. It does seem ok at first glance. I know of OneDrop, which is a more premium option, I believe. Pricing isn't obvious, though. http://onedrop.today/ I know it's a huge market - $50 billion+ in the US with double digit type annual growth rates.
