If you haven't already seen this, check it out: https://www.producthunt.com/tech... They do an excellent job of reducing FTU friction to enable fast access to value. For example:
- no sign up
- instant URL to share
- FTUE provided inside the product, you could do the same on the whiteboard
Good luck!
@cpresc Hi there Chris, thanks for reaching out! Checking them out. Looks cool for simple text editing! For Deekit we have quite a few things planned.
There are different needs for different use-cases which we're tackling one by one. When you regularly use a tool with your team, sign-up, security and collaboration features are needed. Then again for a temporary project or a one-off quick explanation, the easiest no frizz way is best.
Lot's of great hints and ideas, thanks!
@colemercer Hi Cole! I hear you. We've always had the option to try as a guest before signing up. Right now, we simply could not make it into the release. You know the moment when all users are waiting for it, you are waiting for it and then there's the choice. We'll be putting the "Try as Guest" option back again very soon, that's a promise! π
@kailikleemeier@colemercer I've always been a huge fan to allow someone to try a tool immediately but if you want to save or collaborate, that's the point you need an account. But if you just made the ability to immediately try the tool, I would have stuck around. But I'm not interested in another account somewhere for a tool i may only try for 2 minutes before moving on
@jasonglaspey@colemercer Hi there Jason! I'm with you on this one. It has been a hard decision for us to roll out the new version without the option to try before you log in. As we also believe you should have the opportunity to try things out first.
And frankly, I'm happy to see this coming up in discussions here as it only confirms the need for it! We're already hands-on working to add this back as soon as possible. Stay tuned and I'll be more than happy to let you know once it's there again :)
I suspect a large number of people reading this will have dozens (or hundreds, or maybe even thousands) of photos of whiteboards, blackboards, napkins and notebooks in their pockets. We've all cobbled together badly drawn wireframes, notes, ideas, thoughts and produced ideas for amazing products in a flat, static format that gets lost, forgotten or wiped away. With Deekit, that all ends. Having a shared collaborative whiteboard makes life immeasurably easier for the teams that I work with who use Deekit. We can noodle around on ideas, quickly iterate on the ones that show promise and collaboratively develop things that are far more coherent than 10,000 hours of whiteboard and notebook photography.
Deekit 2.0 takes a great idea and makes it faster, more productive and more useful. Post it notes, new pens and brushes and a very cool master board grid view are all brilliant. I'm looking forward to digging into this new version a lot more over the coming days and weeks.
As we expand our team, it's becoming increasingly difficult to collaborate effectively. Deekit seems to do a great job of bridging the gap between remote team members, and the latest update looks pretty awesome. Really excited to give it a try! π
Hi, as a designer-founder, I'm really glad to see more mature offerings for remote collaboration like this one. I'm wondering how you differentiate yourselves? And when do you expect a mobile app? Thanks!
@ubg Hi, great to meet you Umit!
Let me start with the easy and short one - mobile. Deekit 2.0 was an important step for us to get onto mobile devices. We are currently working on the mobile native app - iOS first, Android to follow. And I hope to be getting feedback for the mobile version in PH very soon now! :) Meanwhile, we've made sure that you can use Deekit in the browser also on your mobile devices. Sort-of a temporary workaround until we get there.
I assume your question is mostly about how is Deekit different from other online whiteboards (correct me if I'm wrong). When I worked at Skype, I tested probably around a few hundred online whiteboards. Some more advanced, some less feature wise. But none of them worked as they required a great connectivity to be able to collaborate. Which never was the case for us. I'd often be in discussions with my team from home, cafes, airports or even literally from the back seat of my car over 3G. No video call, screen share and no whiteboard ever worked well in that environment.
The first and most important differentiator for Deekit is working seamlessly no matter what device you use or, how poor your connectivity is. And our users are the best confirm for that. For example, a super amazing team from Go Work A Bit, who are often on the move or enjoy working in some lovely national park or a country side, say it just works.
Feature wise we're still on the move. One of the next things we're focusing on is integrations. Which leads me to a question in return: as a designer, what's your take on integrations when sketching and collaborating with your team? Really curious to hear.
@kailikleemeier Thanks for your reply, Kaili. Yes, that's what I was asking about. I'm glad to hear you're optimizing for performance.
It'd be great to be able to have a more seamless transition from working with paper, stickies or physical whiteboards going to digital canvases or design boards. Also, I'd appreciate streamlining the list of tools from Hangout, Slack and Trello β just to start. And I'm for anything to optimize our workflow with Sketch including various plugins and add-on tools. So best of luck going forward. ...Maybe an integration with Skype some day?!
@ubg Thanks for getting back, this is really helpful and amazing! π Hangouts, Slack and Trello come up very often when we speak to users right now. So I'll add your votes to these in our backlog! Sketch is a very interesting one, I assume your workflow with Sketch would be an easy way to send your designs to the whiteboard for easy collaboration? Or perhaps something more you have in mind?
@kailikleemeier Sketch represented such a huge shift in the UI design community. Any significant new conveniences for working with the tool get lots of attention. InVision's Craft is a key example. I'd appreciate a whiteboarding tool that supported copy-paste and/or drag and drop of Sketch graphics.
@ubg Awesome, we'll add that to our feature requests, I think that's an amazing point we hadn't considered yet. We'll dive into some ideas on that one and would love to pick your brain for feedback a bit further in the near future if that's ok. Thanks a lot! :)
I have been a big fan of Deekit since early days - great for distributed teams to collaborate visually. Initially used Deekit in a three-continent Product Marketing team in @TransferWise, and now in a three-country team in @SorryasaService. Congrats on the improved version @kailikleemeier, and good hunt @eamonncarey!
@martinmcgloin@transferwise@sorryasaservice@eamonncarey Thank you Martin for kind words and love. I'm literally blown away! Not just because of the kind words, but because there are such amazing people using Deekit! π
Hello, Product Hunters! Less than a year ago we launched our early Beta and I'm thrilled to be back for feedback!
We have been blown away by amazing response and support over past months. What a ride it has been! We have kept our eyes and ears open for feedback and thoughts and I'm so excited to have Deekit 2.0 at your fingertips.
At Deekit, we are on a mission to make remote work and learning feel less remote. To make it possible to sketch, brainstorm or explain complex ideas with your team in real-time, no matter where in the world you are.
The brand new version stands for simplicity and minimalism. We've spent many hours testing with our users to create a simple and intuitive experience. We have redesigned your board list into a simple grid that's easy to navigate and deek.
We've also added some new features that have been requested countless times - post-it notes in as many colours and sizes as you'd like and different note previews that you can pin on your boards. And obviously, upgraded whiteboarding tools such as different brushes, straight lines, exporting and duplicating your boards and much more.
Us, remote workers, often have connectivity trouble. Be it when working from a public wifi in a cafe or over 3G anywhere. Thus, for us, it is extremely important to make Deekit work in these environments. Our mission is to make it possible to collaborate in real-time, even in places and conditions when video calls and other tools are not an option. All your boards are automatically saved and synced.
Check it out, let your creative ink out and let us know what you think π
Hello hunters, @colemercer, @jasonglaspey and @ubg! It has been quite a ride since 2.0 and as promised, giving an update.
We've added back not just Guest login (try before you sign up), but also added templates, shapes (squares, ellipses, polygons and even freehand vector), copy-paste, search and tons of other additions and changes based on the feedback from our amazing users. Worth to mention that now you can also use Github to log in and few more coming around shortly. And I'm really excited about a number of things in works right now! Lots to see and as always - all ears and eyes for feedback! Thanks a lot ππ
Thanks for following up. I just tried it out and here is my quick feedback:
The use of rounded corners and drop shadows immediately makes me think this tool is outdated. Fair or not, if the tools I'm using aren't mirroring the most recent user interface trends, it translates in my head that they're not as good as prettier tools. I would consider using Google's Material Design language and it will at least look modern.
also, I learned to use visual design tools from Adobe, and the tools behave quite differently than with adobe (illustrator/photoshop). It also behaves differently than tools like Omnigraffle. I'm not sure what parts of your user experience I find hard to use, but after 2 minutes I was very frustrated that almost nothing worked the way I expected it to. Also, I'd love to have a pointer select tool that is defaulted to (or have keyboard commands for).
The time it takes to choose a circle when the shape tool is a square feels too long. holding down the button and waiting for the tool tip seemed broken to me. (it worked, just seemed to take too long).
I think having a second inspector panel with options for the currently selected tool, always visible, would be a huge help. either as a sidebar, or a lower tool set below the current one.
i'd also love to have some basic alignment tools.
it's a really interesting start, and i'm definitely going to keep an eye on it. thanks for following up.
