Vibe Coder — Talk with AI to build products—in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf

Karpathy coined the term "vibe coding" to describe creating without going deep into code by just talking to your computer, describing what to build, debugging as you go, and talking it out. Vibecoder let's you do this with a VScode/Cursor/Windsurf extension.

Hey Product Hunt community! đź‘‹
I'm thrilled to share Vibe Coder with you today. This is very much an experiment—a first draft of what we believe could be a transformative approach to coding.

For the last two years I have been loving this workflow:
- have an idea
- go to chatgpt or claude
- ask the AI to help you scope out a project
- tell it the way you want it to be built
- then just “be the product manager”
- tell it to generate code
- then blindly copy paste code
- and copy paste errors
- do this over and over
- until you have working code or an app (usually a dozen or so iterations)

This is so powerful. And it has gotten even better with the increasing capabilities of models and development environments. I am so psyched to see what the Deepgram team has produced and I am so happy to finally be able to smoothly vibe code by just using my voice. Now the sessions are far more detailed and happen faster and have a better outcome.

We built this because we've been fascinated by the potential of combining voice input with AI-powered IDEs. What happens when you can just talk through your coding process instead of constantly context-switching between thinking and typing?

The extension has two main modes:

- Vibe Mode: Have conversations with an AI assistant about your code, brainstorm ideas, and explore solutions

- Code Mode: Dictate code with customizable AI rewrites that polish your spoken thoughts into proper syntax

We've been using this internally at Deepgram for months to build real projects (including Vibe Coder itself!), and we're seeing promising results in productivity and creative problem-solving.

This is just the beginning—we're releasing it as open source because we want to see where the community takes it. Try it out, break it, improve it, and let us know what you think!

@stephensonsco  This is super cool!

Rajiv Ayyangar

LOVE this. As a non-engineer, I've been vibe coding in @Replit using @Wispr Flow. It's cool to see voice being more deeply integrated into the IDEs themselves.

Daniel Mishler

@rajiv_ayyangar Thanks! I love @Replit as well, use it all the time. Have you tried Cursor or Windsurf? I've been amazed at how easy they are to use for non-engineers like myself. If you try it out with this extension, I'd love to know how you think this compares to @Wispr Flow .

Daniel Mishler

As someone who couldn't code a year ago, and still can't without AI, discovering AI-powered editors like Cursor and Windsurf was genuinely life-changing (major shout-out to them!). Suddenly, I could actually build things the things I dreamed up, instead of bugging my engineer friends with crazy ideas. What if you could just build things?

As I got into it, though, I found myself constantly switching between talking through ideas with my friends and typing them out. The context-switching was jarring, and it felt like a missed opportunity. Coding is fundamentally creative and conversational – why couldn't I just talk with my AI partner? So we vibe-coded Vibe Coder.

Like Scott said, this is just our first iteration – a glimpse of what's possible when voice meets AI coding. There's lots of room to build this together, so I wanted to let you know what I'll be working on:

  • API key proxy so you don't need to supply your own keys (top priority!)

  • Enhanced settings for deeper customization

  • Project context awareness for the agent

  • VS Code command integration

  • Cleaning up the code

There are more ideas for enhancements in the README on Github.

Have ideas or want to contribute? I'd love to hear your thoughts! This is just the beginning of making coding more natural, accessible, and, well... vibey. 🎵

Congratulations of the launch team! This looks so awesome, would be cool seeing how it integrates with my current workflow. Also, love the team behind Deepgram, I've found the documentation very straight forward for devs to get started :)

Daniel Mishler

@levyne  Thanks! Let me know what you think, I'm going to be actively working on it and adding more features, so I'd love to know what works and doesn't work for your flow.

Ege from UserAnalytics.AI

This is such an exciting concept! 🚀 The idea of 'vibe coding'—guiding AI with voice to build projects—feels like the next evolution of development workflows.

Daniel Mishler

@ege_from_useranalytics Totally agree, it just feels so natural and speedy.

Ajay Sahoo

It is interesting to see that it will help to debug code by only detecting what developers coded on real time basis.

Daniel Mishler

@ajay27324 Hoping to add even more ability to the Voice Agent (Vibe mode) to execute commands in VS code, such as controlling your editor, creating new files and editing them directly, compound commands, etc. Keep an eye on the marketplace posting for updated versions!

Michelle Chan

This looks very helpful for me as a PM when I have many launch and demo ideas.

Great work team!

Tom Shapland

So neat!

Daniel Mishler

@tom_shapland Thank you!

Owen Oktay

Heck yeah vibe coding! I love this idea. Just got started with cursor as a non-tech guy and it's been transformative. Interested to try this out

Daniel Mishler

@owenoktay Give it a shot and let me know if you run into any issues, or have questions/suggestions!
