Descript is a podcast editing tool that lets you record, edit, and mix audio by editing text. We use AI to make editing simple while maintaining the power and flexibility of profession audio production suites.
I've been looking for a tool that would allow me to "type" podcast ad reads and output with my voice to save me time and avoid long approval delays. I'll have to give the new Descript a try.
@rrhoover an entire AI-generated ad, interesting! Let us listeners know if/when you try this. Definitely curious to hear accuracy of this beyond more than a few words hear and there.
Hi everyone! Andrew here, CEO of Descript.
When we started Descript a few years ago, this is the release we always had in our minds - an end-to-end podcast production studio wrapped in a user experience that was as approachable and flexible as a document. Whether you're a seasoned podcaster or a newcomer, we hope you'll download Descript and give it a try - we've found it really makes you interact with audio in a new and more creative way.
I take that back: by joining forces with Lyrebird, this release turned into something far beyond what we could have imagined. With the release of Overdub, you can now correct your voice recordings by typing. It's the first of many AI-powered features we plan to ship together to reduce the friction of creative expression. You can try a demo and sign up for the beta here: descript.com/lyrebird-ai
I'll be hanging around the comments today (and so will the Lyrebird founders, The Lyrebird founders, @kundan2511, @adbrebs and Jose Sotelo) to answer any questions you might have.
@kundan2511@adbrebs@andrewmason Holy Moly! Are you folks for real? That's the best video ever. Also, the SaaS has a great free version. You mean business. This is EXACTLY what I need to finally start that podcast. I'mma singin' up.
@andrewmason absolutely love your product but the last 2 encounters with your customer service/helpdesk people has left me cold - to the point I wont be using your software past my renewal date of next year. I dont know if you outsourced it or your people are stressed or reading from scripts but MAN - They're ruining what is otherwise a pretty amazing prodcut.

I've been geeking out about DeScript for the past 3 days straight, it's revolutionary. I don't use this word much. But it is. Just mindblowing. From the trailer (Sandwitch videos are the best) to the tutorial inside the product itself, to the UI that's amazing, to the editing experience which makes editing audio and video as simple as editing a word doc, to the AI generated voices, to the insance OverDub feature, to the fact that everything is synced to the cloud all the time.
Just... Amazing all around.
This looks amazing—congrats on getting it here, folks! I've been looking at Descript since the early days and seeing it turn into such a mature and futuristic take on audio editing is awesome.
Major kudos for the video too, it's hilarious. I'm guessing it was Sandwich's work? :)

I really wanted to like this and make it a part of my everyday workflow but between the customer service team severely lacking and the product being buggy as hell for video and constantly having problems with it that I have to reach out to the poorly executed customer service team, Its not really saving me the time it says it will - video is definitely not ready for prime time however I have had minimal issues with editing audio podcasts and will continue to use it for such
@cat_hicks ug, I'm sorry to hear that. You'll be glad to hear that we've just staffed up on support and the experience should be far better now. Stability has also made major improvements in the last month, has been our top priority.
We've definitely primarily been focused on audio / podcasting - the video features are pretty basic at the moment, just single track editing, but more coming!
So excited to see Descript move in this direction. What's the recommended process for remote multitrack recording? Can you still record your end straight into Descript and add the other half of the conversation later?
Great shoutout this AM on Podnews newsletter and podcast.
Cool demo video of James from Podnews showing recording of today's episode within Descript Studio - https://youtu.be/ksqtW3imaq8
Curious if any plans to develop/release webapp version atop downloaded offering?
OMFG. That is an award winning demo for sure. Who scripted and created it????? Also... Overdub... Seriously a game changer. Congrats to descript abd lyrebird. Amazing.
Love everything about it! Question, any chance of supporting foreign languages in the near feature? The thought of having podcasts transcribed to dutch is already amazing.
Do you have any plans to offer a way to generate a video version using a background image, an automatically generated waveform and burnt-in subtitles? It seems like you have most of the pieces to make this happen, and currently it's a lot of repetitive manual work to do it in video editing software. Something like this: https://twitter.com/naval/status...
Woah. Love the product vid demo. Always wanted to way an awesome way to edit audio recording and have own recordings converted to text. how does it recognize non-native english speakers like me. Specially when you have a little bit of accent it sometimes get hard to get the conversion to text right. Would love to try this out.
I don't have a podcast, I have no need to do a podcast, but this demo video makes me WANT to do a podcast anyway! I'm going to download and play with this software just because it looks sooo damn cool!
Wow, This is awesome, Will save me atleast 2hrs per episode of mine.
I wanted to sign up for Lyrebird Beta, but there is no option to join
at descript.com/lyrebird-ai
Can you please let me know how to join the Lyrebird beta?
Never done a podcast before (or even thought about it) but that marketing video was so good that I really want to use this product to start!
... give the agency who created that ALL the money!
