We organized our first DEV Challenge back in March, and are solidifying our commitment to bringing more challenges to the community with today's product hunt launch! DEV Challenges are mini-hackathons that come in many different forms -- some are simple writing prompts, some flex your creativity and encourage you to show off your personality, and some are full fledged apps with complex requirements. Example domain areas include artificial intelligence, frontend development, computer science, API integrations, and more! Most challenges run for just under two weeks but we'll occasionally offer a longer timeline when there is more at stake. Right now, we're in the middle of the Build Better on Stellar: Smart Contract Challenge that's all about helping web developers get into web3, blockchain, and decentralized finance. It's a great learning opportunity with equally great rewards -- a $50,000 cash prize pool and a trip to London to be exact. We also launched the Nylas AI and Communications Challenge yesterday that has a big emphasis on creativity and $3,000 prize pool. Please check them both out! Our main goal for DEV Challenges is for participants to walk away with new knowledge, and hopefully, a statement piece to add to their professional profile (be it on DEV on otherwise). Of course, there is also oftentimes the opportunity to win cash prizes too (like in the Stellar Challenge). If you've participated in a DEV Challenge before, we'd love to hear your thoughts -- especially if there are new domains and tools you'd like to build with or write about. Please let us know how we can improve the challenge experience! Thank you to everyone who checked out our launch today.

It's really been awesome to see what folks come up with each time. Shout out to *the first* winner of the CSS Art challenge https://dev.to/floscode/the-fron... If you haven't participated yet, please join DEV and keep an eye out.

Thank you. You helped me a lot to bootstrap my Lama Bot (https://t.me/compassion_lama_bot) as quick as possible. The Challenge gave me sence of urgency and energy to do it in 3 days. Otherwise it'll be developed for months.

Congratulations, DEV! This is great for people who want to hone their coding skills.

This is such an exciting initiative, @jessleenyc! DEV Challenges sound like a fantastic way to engage the community and showcase everyone's skills while having fun. The mix of creativity and technical facets is a real game-changer! I'm particularly pumped about the current Build Better on Stellar Challenge — a $50,000 prize pool and a trip to London? That's incredible! Web3 and blockchain are such crucial areas right now, so I can't wait to see how participants bring their ideas to life. Also, the Nylas AI and Communications Challenge sounds super interesting, especially with its focus on creativity! I think it's great that you’re encouraging participants to explore various domains. As for improvements, maybe having more case studies or examples from previous challenges could inspire new participants. Overall, this is a fantastic opportunity for growth and learning – I’m excited to see what the community comes up with! Keep up the awesome work!

Hey Jess, How do you determine the themes and domains for each challenge? Congrats on the launch!
Jess Lee
@kyrylosilin a few different ways! we mostly brainstorm as a team but new themes and domains appear as different potential partners approach us for collaboration :)

DEV challenges are awesome! Many other online communities struggle with clickbait posts and stuff, but when a DEV challenge starts, nobody has time for clickbait - we actually learn and see some really cool techniques relevant to the contest. I haven't participated in many myself, but I've learned a lot! Keep up the good work, DEV!

@best_codes thank you!!

Absolutely thrilled to see the launch of DEV Challenges on Product Hunt, @jessleenyc! 🚀 It’s such a fantastic initiative to not only enhance skills but also to foster community engagement. The variety of challenges, from writing prompts to full app builds, really caters to different interests and skill sets. I love the focus on both creativity and technical prowess in challenges like the Nylas AI and Communications Challenge. And the Smart Contract Challenge with a $50k prize pool? That’s just phenomenal! For improvement, perhaps consider adding more categories focused on emerging tech trends, like quantum computing or advanced AI applications. It could attract a wider audience and tap into the latest developments in the tech world. Looking forward to participating and seeing how these challenges evolve. Kudos to the team for creating such an engaging platform! Keep it up!

What a great way to get new and experienced coders together in one community to work on coding projects! Hackathons can often feel quite daunting, so I love that you're focused on 'mini' hackathons, as well as offering various domains to contribute towards (i.e. creativity & prompt engineering, not only fully-fledged coding) 😍 Congrats on the launch!! 🚀
Oke feranmi Glory
Great job with the platform! It would be fun to see some team-based challenges or competitions added soon. Keep up the good work!
Jess Lee
@oke_feranmi_glory you're actually already allowed to work on a team for DEV Challenges!

I have used several coding challenge platform before, but this one focus on real-world applications and prize incentives makes it particularly engaging
