Dime 2.0 is here with income tracking, overall budgets, a UI makeover and more! It is a beautiful, intuitive expense tracker built with iOS design guidelines in mind. And, it's 100% free with no ads or paywalls.
Hey Product Hunt!
I am Rafael, solo-developer of Dime. Back in September 2022, I launched Dime 1.0 as a project to kickstart my programming journey, and was taken aback by the response. I am immensely grateful for all the comments, reviews, and feedback I have gotten ever since.
5 months on, I have built on many of the suggestions and feature requests and I'm proud to present to y'all Dime 2.0.
💥 What's New in V2.0!
- The MOST requested feature thus far - income tracking, which involved a complete overhaul and migration of the existing data models
- Redesigned input interface that minimises excessive swiping if you have many categories
- Redesigned category list with category suggestions and the ability to reorder categories
- Rebuilt the Insights page to minimise lag and crashes
- Lock screen widgets for iOS 16
- Overall category-less budgets!
- Added interactive line graph to the Home page (turned off by default, can be accessed via Feature Lab in Settings)
- Insight filtering configuration now persists between sessions i.e. if you configure your Insights page to show monthly statistics, it will stay that way from then on (and not revert to the default, which is weekly insights)
- Added triangular indicators to the budget bar graphs which show the optimal spending percentage
- Option to have a more compact Budgets page by swapping the grid for rows
- Custom time frames (e.g. 3 days, 5 weeks, 7 months) for recurring transactions
- Swipe to delete transactions

Dime was built by a solo student developer, a valiant attempt at escaping the insidious "tutorial cycle" and putting my recently picked-up SwiftUI knowledge into practice. Any feedback is greatly appreciated, so feel free to get in touch via the comments section or through Twitter @rarfell.

@rarfell@rafell really really good app… do you plan on continue updating the app? One thing I think it could be added is Apple Maps support to add locations where you made the expense (based on points of interest already in Apple Maps, if the place didn’t exist you could write the name only if wanted). Maybe beneath the notes when adding expenses and like a pin symbol next to the time/category when viewing the expense.
@jose_pinto2 Hey Jose, thanks for the suggestion! I definitely plan to continue adding new features in future updates, will look into Maps support too :)
Dime 1.0 was one of those rare Product Hunt finds that made it into my daily routines instantly. Great that you've kept building and are expanding the app @rafell!
@alexanderspoor Thank you for the kind words! If you have found Dime to be useful, it would be incredibly helpful if you could give it a great review on the App Store and share it with your friends. Am unable to afford marketing for a 100% free app, so ratings and reviews are my best bet at spreading the word about it. Thanks a million ❤️
Hey, I've been using this app consistently since the launch, I love the design and usability updates in this version, but I think the income tracking feature isn't really useful at all. I myself, and probably other people have used this app exclusively as an expense tracker app, which why I preferred it over other apps, because this app's niche was only expense tracking. That's just my 2 cents though, still a great app!
@igor_pavkovic Hey Igor, thank you so much for being an early adopter of Dime since V1! I added income tracking as it was by far the most heavily requested feature - almost every support email coming in daily mentioned income tracking. However, I personally do not have much use for income tracking too... As such, I added a toggle in the Settings page to "turn off" income tracking. You definitely can still add income transactions, and they will still appear in your log, but your Insights page no longer has the option to toggle between income insights and expense insights (it just shows expense insights).
@hayr_hotoca Hey Hayr, I have not paid for any ads thus far. Apple gives each developer free $100 credits to spend on App Store marketing, but other than that I have not ran any campaigns. Am not earning from this app (the tips solely cover the costs of the Apple Developer account), so marketing isn't really feasible too...
Awesome to see more personal finance/ budgeting tools. Do you see the app converging to offering direct FinTech interactions or just adjacent tools?
How do yall look to differentiate from existing expense management platforms?
@giga_greg Hey Greg, I do not intend for it to offer those features... I see Dime more as a simple, well-built product with the focus being on user experience.
