Share your macOS dock and see who else has docked the apps you use.
To add your own dock, just run `npx dockhunt` in your terminal, or run our desktop app. It's 100% open source.
Hey Product Hunt 😸
As a maker, I’ve always been fascinated by the apps people can’t live without.
While it’s rare for me to discover something that I end up using everyday, it’s magical when I do. I remember installing Cron for the first time 2 years ago—now it sits permanently on my dock.
One of my favorite places to find the most essential products is, well, from other makers. Clearly I’m not alone. When I meet other builders, the first question they ask is often some version of: “what’s in your dock?”
The team at Basedash and I thought it’d be fun to ship a project that lets you answer that question. It’s called Dockhunt and we’re excited to hear what you think!
Here are some of my favorites so far:
- Steven Tey: https://www.dockhunt.com/users/s...
- Raphael Schaad: https://www.dockhunt.com/users/r...
- John Pham: https://www.dockhunt.com/users/J...
I hope this becomes a fun way for folks to connect over their favorite apps. Working on Basedash has introduced me to tons of talented builders. It’s one reason I love this community so much.
On that note, I want to ask: what’s in your dock? Let me know below 👇
Neat idea and weirdly similar to “Fancy MacBook Apps”!

The two products need to have a baby. Seeing a dock then clicking on the app to get the brew install line
It's a great and fun way to share your dock but I just feel like it's too much effort to just wanting to share your dock cause you need to download the app or run the code. I wish it could be done in the website itself!
@ilalamailaka that's a good point. We considered this approach, also thinking it would reduce friction for many users. We may return to do it. We did have a few concepts for a UI for allowing you to input which apps you have in your dock there in the website.
For our initial release we decided we only had capacity for one of the following: (1) a tool to scan your dock automatically or (2) the UI for allowing users to input their docks manually on the website. We weighed the pros and cons of each and went with 1. I'd be happy to get into more of the details behind the decision if you like.
Thanks @rrhoover! Working on adding a "Top apps" page to show which apps are most popular in people's docks. Also expanding the Twitter integration so you can see docks of people you're following.
Hello product-hunters, and soon-to-be dock-hunters. We at Basedash had a fun time building this side project together.
Do you use macOS and Twitter? Do you want to show off what's in your dock? Then you've come to the right place. We've built a little tool that you can run on your Mac, which scans your dock then invites you to share it with the world.
Come on over to https://dockhunt.com. Check out others' docks and get instructions on how to scan and share your's too.
