Congrats on the launch, looks promising!!! @tomaspeniasko i have 2 issues with it - first the name, sounds ahmm bad, secondly, why do i have to pay in order to start? i recommend to let people try it first
@shyrosenzweig Hey, what reminds you the name? Also, we are considering free trial period (like try 10 days without credit card) but right now, you can only try a demo before you buy. It is similar approach to Startup Framework by Designmodo.
Quick feedback: after Macaw and all the other spectacular failures in this space there's no way I'm paying one year in advance without even being able to test the tool. Also, relying on gumroad for payments which is yet another startup on deathwatch doesn't inspire any confidence in me.
@luckymethod Hey, you can actually try it, just log in with demo account (name: demo@dorkoy.com, pass: demodemo). Regarding Gumroad, we are totally satisfied with them, so I don't see why they are on deathwatch.
@bentossell Hey Ben, The main problem with most website builders is that as they grow, they gain useless features and are not simple to use anymore. And thanks to those features, they are not able to make radical changes and so on. We want to provide service that is as simple as building lego bricks but at the same time, it will be useful as hell.
Also, we come in multiple languages in smaller markets (like Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Finland) where there are not such builders with local support...
Hope it does make sense. If not, hit me a message ;)
@tomaspeniasko@bentossell good answer. Here's a devil advocate follow up question: what will happen when you have a lot of success and get asked to add X,Y or Z feature for big customers? Aren't you going to follow the same route as the other platforms?
@jipiboily@bentossell Hey, That's the tricky question. However, we can add many features to our service for a single client. So if some big customer will ask for features that would not be beneficial for others, we will add them just for him.
Does it make sense?
@tomaspeniasko@jipiboily@bentossell That doesn't scale at all because then you are managing separate features across different clients. This also affects the UI and one feature may require a certain look/UX while another requires another. The best approach would be to just say your software is opinionated and you believe what you've created is the best way to go about doing it for the majority of people. If one client is asking for something that nobody else wants, then tough luck for them.
@scrivs@tomaspeniasko@bentossell I agree that feature flagging doesn't work at scale. It can work for a feature here and there if you really need to, but in general it's a bad idea on the long term IMHO. I wish Dorkoy the best. Tricky situation to be in to focus on simplicity, you've gotta keep it to keep your initial customers.
First off, congrats on the launch.
That said, I'm struggling to see differentiates the options in this area. Tilda Publishing launched recently, there's Design Modo's Slides, and obviously Squarespace.
For me, the upfront features on your homepage don't sound impressive, but sound like piecing together other peoples work (lossless image compression) or aren't really features (unlimited websites, support & security). Analytics is nice, animations too, but the rest feel like filler content. That said, when I go onto your features page, I see drag & drop, inline editing, personalisation & html/css edit, which provide more indication of value to me, personally. Dorkoy providing responsive sites and integrations with third parties is important too, which isn't clear to me on the homepage.
Simply put, I think the prominence of features on the features page makes a lot more sense than the homepage, and sell this to me a lot more.
@fredrivett Hey, Thanks for you feedback Fred
To be honest, we are switching features between homepage and features page from time to time to see how people react to them. We have realised that for some people, technical features like HTML editing and lossless image compression are more important, and for some things like support is important. I guess we have to find a right balance for a homepage.
But thanks a lot for your feedback ;)
hey, you use this builder http://codecanyon.net/item/html-..., don't see anything interesting because you use another product and want to get money, damn :(
Looks interesting, but I'm trying to login with the demo user but I can't (invalid username or password). Can you check if anybody change the pass or there are any errors? Thanks!
@ricardpanades Hey, Sorry for that, looks like someone has changed those credentials within demo account. However, it works now so you can try it. Let me know what you think.
@tomaspeniasko It works now. Looks interesting but I feel that have poor usability, simply I don't feel comfortable using it, I think that is because there are many steps to do something simple as add a block of content, or edit a text. The tool looks clean, but in my humble opinion is not as simple as expected. As I say it's only my opinion. Good work and wish you the best! ;)
I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I have to agree with my fellow Product Hunters.
Your logo looks almost exactly like SquareSpace and you are a website builder (coincidence).
Good luck in the future:-(
Don't really see a differentiator for the english locales in this product. Maybe it's great for other locales, but I concur with most other opinions here. It should at least have it's own design direction.
@nypple Hey, Well I won't lie here, we have seen imcreator before, but I wouldn't say we were inspired by it. But we like how it works since its similar to Dorkoy
Hi, everyone. Today, I'm presenting you Dorkoy.
Dorkoy makes it easy and fun to build websites in minutes. With Dorkoy, you can create landing pages, product pages, stories or fully packed websites for all kind of content. It allows you to personalize your website as much as you need, so your website will not look like a template.
The key point that makes Dorkoy different from its competitors is simplicity. Other website builders are full of unused features and outdated elements.
By the way product hunters, you can get it at the better price with this promo code "produthunt" at https://dorkoy.com
web: https://dorkoy.com
fb: https://facebook.com/teamdorkoy
tw: https://twitter.com/teamdorkoy
@zefareu Hey, The name is actually a combination of name Dorothy and Russian suffix OY. It has nothing to do with "dork", however, a couple of friends asked me if it's so simple that even a dork can create a website. But mostly, we had positive feedback on the name.
@tomaspeniasko Hey! I've been checking out similar sites like squarespace, webflow, semplice and such. Have you got any examples of what we can do with Dorkoy? Be interesting to see the animate.css transitions! Very reasonably priced at £3 a month but what exactly does this get me?
@graphicartwork Hey, You can actually try a demo. (just log in with demo credentials: name: demo@dorkoy.com, pass: demodemo). We are also preparing some kind of exposition where people can see websites made through our service, and it should be out next week. However, as an example, our entire website was created just with our service. There you can also see animate.css implemented.
Regarding the pricing, it will get you access to our service where you can create as many websites as you can, updates and email support.
Hmmmm, at first i thought everyone is being really negative towards Dorkoy, I like the name, nothing wrong with it - I like the logo, it doesn't remind me of Squarespace at all, maybe Feedly, just maybe. I like that we have a choice with visual builders now - to be honest i feel all have their failings - someone is going to get it right and I look forward to it. My main question is, Did you build Dorkoy.com using Dorkoy ? if not, why the hell not ! Show us a video / time-lapse of you building Dorkoy.com using Dorkoy, how much time and money does it cost, show us how easy it is to use. I wish you good luck and hope it goes well. As a side note, Dorkoy.com looks a lot like Dunked.com, and i mean, a lot !!
@chusmargallo I came here to see if anyone else had the same thought. Even the logo at a quick glance made me question if this was a Squarespace subsidiary. @tomaspeniasko You are taking the wrong approach by saying this style doesn't belong to any company. In the minds of people looking for a website builder this style belongs to Squarespace in their mind. Squarespace and Wix I would assume own the majority of mindshare when it comes to site builders so you would probably be best server to not look like them at all. You want to Dorkoy to stand out on its own, not just remind people that maybe they should go back and checkout Squarespace.
