I signed up for this yesterday and I really like it. As data protection rules (in Europe) get stricter and banking APIs become more open it’s going to be easier for startups like Emma to offer services like this with consumer confidence. I’m a fan of what they’ve done so far and I look forward to seeing how it evolves.
Edoardo Moreni
@martinsfp Hi Martin! Thank you very much. We are looking forward to releasing more features soon! :)
Antonio Marino
@martinsfp I'm glad we didn't break anything :)

Looks like a great way for students to keep track of their expenses... Hope this comes to Canada soon!
Edoardo Moreni
@joshjoshliuliu Hi Joshua, we are starting from U.K., but ready to take over the world! 💪🤠
Edoardo Moreni
@joshjoshliuliu You may want to have a look at our testflight (https://testflight.apple.com/joi...). We are testing Canada and the US. :)
David Iwanow
Seems a very interesting vertical and similar to Monzo which tracks your spending via their special visa card
Edoardo Moreni
@davidiwanow Hi David! Thanks. Yes, the sweet thing is we are going to integrate Monzo too next year! PSD2 is coming and they are releasing their stable APIs at some point in 2018. :) ps: We are already working on a Starling Bank integration. ;)
Antonio Marino
@davidiwanow @edoardomoreni the interesting bit is that Monzo gets from 150 data points on every Mastercard transaction because they're connected directly to them. We only get a couple strings from the bank but we're still able to do most of the same things such as identify the exact location where you bought something or recognise if that restaurant you went to serves brunch, pizza, burritos or sushi
David Iwanow
@edoardomoreni ah ok cool just started playing around with it tonight would be great when it also supports other European banks
David Iwanow
@edoardomoreni @antoniomarino0 ah ok cool, I noticed it does misclassify some items such as the The Priory Tavern pub isn't a health spot... easily changed but the main observation is the categories is limited. One bill item is on income there is no salary category? I really like the simplicity of the budget feature. One other question is why only is the current month imported seems to undersell the service if you can't see how you performed the previous few months?
Edoardo Moreni
@antoniomarino0 @davidiwanow Hi David, can you send me an email via support? support@emma-app.com

Antonio Marino
@sydney_liu_sl It's delicious <3
Edoardo Moreni

Education about personal finance is even more effective than simply raising income. I've got a huge amount of respect for financial technology products that help customers make smarter decisions, when the establishment has typically made a lot of money from loans and overdrafts from irresponsible spending. Installed Emma a few days ago - Great interface, much easier to navigate than the mobile banking app that my bank provides.
Edoardo Moreni
@dan_e_gray thanks Dan! We are really glad you like it. :) The best is yet to come. We won't stop until we fix this massive problem.

Quick update: We just got approved by the Financial Conduct Authority, so we can operate under PSD2. This is our official statement: https://emma-app.com/blog/2018/0... Second quick update: We are HIRING - > https://angel.co/emma-35/jobs -------------------- Thanks @bramk for hunting Emma! We are thrilled to be here! I am Edoardo Moreni, Co-founder of Emma. @AntonioMarino0 and I are excited to finally show what we have been working on for the past few months. Emma is your financial advocate. She can make you avoid overdrafts, find and cancel subscriptions, track debt and save money. We believe we are at the right time in history where technology can actually democratise the figure of the private wealth manager. The way we are achieving this is by building the Google Now of personal finance. Emma is a feed of cards, which renders different elements according to your own context and situation. This means we are building an app that is able to take different shapes according to our users’ needs. You can swipe through your set of cards as if you were reading your personal finance daily news. We are currently in closed beta, but we’ll give access to anyone who signups through Product Hunt in the next 48 hours. We would love any feedback, ideas or questions. We have just started, so look to the community for their support. We are here to answer any questions all day. Ps: Emma comes from our initials. (E)doardo (M)oreni (M)arino (A)ntonio. Ps2: It’s time to put that avocado toast down. ;)

Reviewing on The World of Apps YT channel, very soon!
Edoardo Moreni
@francescod_ales Hi Francesco, thanks for the review! We are looking forward to watching it on your channel! 😁
Derek Schultz
Looks awesome! Does it work with US bank accounts?
Antonio Marino
@measuring_cups we have integrated only UK banks so far and getting more coverage here first. US banks will come in the future
Edoardo Moreni
@antoniomarino0 @measuring_cups We are ready. US is available in our testflight. https://testflight.apple.com/joi...

Fantastic product and a solid team behind it :)

How did you choose the name? And did you decide not to opt for a non-gender-specific name like services such as Charlie HR have? Really keen to understand your revenue model too. There's a lot of fintech out there aimed at helping people manage their money, would love to know how you fit into the landscape.
Edoardo Moreni
@stevenjmesser (E)doardo (M)oreni (M)arino (A)ntonio. It comes from the names of the two co-founders. :) You can read more about the name here: https://emma-app.com/blog/2017/0...
Edoardo Moreni
@stevenjmesser In terms of revenue, we haven't defined a long term strategy yet. :)
Edoardo Moreni
@stevenjmesser At this point, we are extremely focused on product and user. We hope to get both right.
Meggetto Francesco

Keep up the good work. Amazing work!!!

Pros:

It makes everything SO MUCH easier! Also, it helps you keep track of your banking accounts, without the need of their official apps

Cons:

None

Edoardo Moreni
Thank you!
Antonio Marino
Glad to hear you like it
Soon Chee Loong
Awesome! I don't have to check my bank account every month now to make sure everything looks right! :D
Meggetto Francesco
I've been using it since last week and I really like the UX. It makes managing my money way less stressful. It made me notice I was paying a contract from a free trial. I'd like it to eventually replace my banking app entirely. Are you going to allow me to make payments anytime soon?
Antonio Marino
@francescomeg Glad to hear it brought you value! Payments are a complicated beast although with the new payment services regulations it gets easier. We'll need to get another authorisation by the authorities first. It's definitely something we want to do!
Edoardo Moreni
@francescomeg Thanks! We are working to extend the current app with a few cool features! ;) Stay tuned! We hope you love it as much as we loved building it. :D

I've been using EMMA to track my expenses for the past month or so and I find it much more intuitive and accessible than my regular bank. The categories help with setting goals and keeping them.

Pros:

The product is very well built. Its really easy to track expenses and they are automatically allocated into categories.

Cons:

None

Lucas Ou-Yang

This is just an initial review, I'll add more thoughts after more use
