People already use payments across Facebook's apps to shop, donate to causes and send money to each other. Facebook Pay will make these transactions easier while continuing to ensure payment information is secure and protected.

If data is a person's most valuable commodity and FB have consistently proven they can't be trusted with it, why would I ever consider using their payments system for my money? Not touching this with a ten foot pole 🙅‍♂️

"The way you pay and manage payments on Messenger and Facebook is now called Payments" So, with my tinfoil hat on, this was going to be the play for Libra all along — Facebook Pay would be the consumer brand and Libra would enable it to work w/o banking partners (or their fees)... the question is... did Facebook's Libra partners know that this was coming? Also curious to see how things have evolved since Facebook Pay was first launched five years ago!

So what happend to all the promises of Libra? I'm up for innovation and Product Hunt is a great platform for it, but I don't think that after Cabrdige analytica and Libra, Facebook need to deal with other people money...

@jolenegriggs This is them validating the market pre-libra. Reading comments from ProductHunt, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and HackerNews is starting to convince me FB is beyond f--ked here... The public is going to follow heads lines and bring up 2016 no matter how much damage control they do. Facts do not matter. Cancel culture is going after Zuck.

I totally agree with Connor Fowler. I despise the way MZ has handled the privacy issue at FB. I don’t use FB and have successfully encouraged others to vacate the platform. MZ is an arrogant fool and because he is smarter than most of the people on FB, this will succeed. It doesn’t mean that it’s a good thing. Just because 100 million people trust him doesn’t make him trustworthy. It just proves they’re gullible.

Banks regularly get hacked. They also get robbed. And yet you all still put your money into banks. Early adopters know this is a risk worth taking. What personal data are you trying to hide that already has not been backed from Equifax, or 100+ other sites like Yahoo, Google, etc...

Despite privacy concerns, this is going to be *big* particularly when they integrate it with WhatsApp and Instagram. We’ve already seen how big Instagram shopping is, I think we’ll see an even bigger impact when Facebook unifies payments across all 3 platforms.

Social media giant Facebook Inc. announced on Tuesday it was launching Facebook Pay, its new unified payments system. The service will be available across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, and will allow users to make payments or transfer money without exiting the company's applications. Facebook Pay supports most major credit and debit cards as well as PayPal. The company said it will start rolling out the payment service on Facebook and Messenger in the United States this week. It is unknown when it will be available on other applications or when it will launch internationally.
