It's unfortunate that something like this is needed. How are you detecting scams/shady sellers, @saoud_khalifah?
Saoud Khalifah
@rrhoover Thank you for your comment, Ryan! It is unfortunate however the scale of the problems are rapidly increasing on eCommerce from everything we've seen in the last 5 years since Fakespot's inception. We leverage machine learning to detect shady and scammy sellers. We have amassed over 8 billion reviews that are used for our unsupervised and supervised training for models that looks for specific signals for sellers that may sell you a counterfeit, diverted or fake products. We also have identifiers for sellers that may have had their accounts hacked/hijacked (a bigger problem than you may know). If you're curious why Fakespot Guard marked a seller as a "Warning" or "Caution", hover over our badge and we will list of reasons that specify why the determination was made.
Alan Khanukaev
is this separate from the existing Fakespot extension?
Saoud Khalifah
@blamealan Fakespot Guard is in the same extension!
Dario Raijman
Awesome!, I've been using this reviewmeta.com , that fact that it's integrated in the actual website makes it much easier! great!
Rob Gross
@raijman Thanks for the kind words. We have more features coming very soon. Please let us know what we can improve and what would be helpful to you while shopping online by emailing us at extension@fakespot.com.
Kate Hunter
i always just buy based on reviews aggregate
Saoud Khalifah
@katehunter28 That's not a bad strategy at all. Nowadays, even when looking at the aggregate, it may have been manipulated and faked so it is good to understand eCommerce fraud as you're researching products online.
Gab Bujold 💀
We all know someone who bought something on Amazon and when they received it, it was something else (or just plain crap). An out of the box initiative :)!
Saoud Khalifah
@bujold19 Indeed. It's scary how many of these stories also end up with "toxins" and "dangerous chemicals" because the seller is selling counterfeits.
Rob Gross
@bujold19 Thanks for sharing this story. We think it's important that Amazon and other eCommerce marketplaces are held to the same standards as brick and mortar stores when it comes product quality and safety. They should not be able to hide behind out-of-date laws and tech to rip people off and/or harm them.

Cool, but only working with amazon.com ?
Saoud Khalifah
@nicolas_bui Yes, for now Guard works on Amazon.com, eBay and Walmart. We will be adding support for other regions soon!

Hello ProductHunters, we are excited to announce Fakespot Guard, real time protection that lets you know if you're buying from an unscrupulous 3rd party seller that can end up with you getting a counterfeit, fake or used/damaged products. We have seen a sharp rise in these problems in the last couple of months and are excited to leverage our proprietary artificial intelligence technology to protect our users when they shop online from eCommerce fraud. Fakespot Guard supports Amazon, Walmart and eBay. Our technology will detect fly-by-night sellers that have hacked accounts, for example, and many other tactics that these types of sellers use. If there are any questions or feedback, we'd love to hear it. We are constantly working on improving Fakespot and Fakespot Guard, so please leave a comment!

Any plans to add a safari extension? I prefer not to use chrome due to my own data being harvested.
Saoud Khalifah
@noaviv Thanks for your comment. Yes, Safari extension is in the pipeline!
Sia Mohajer
Great idea, is there a feature where you can get sort by (eliminate) fake reviews too?
Saoud Khalifah
@siamohajer Yes, that is a core feature on our extension and we released a beta feature for sorting on Amazon's search page (.com only for now).
Dmitry Drobyshev
Amazing product. This is super useful for me! Are you going to add this extension for Firefox?
Saoud Khalifah
@itnon Thank you for your kind words. Yes, we are planning to release an FF extension in the near future!
Arseniy
Lovely idea, but if your product works, what's the rationale behind having it as a browser extension, rather than integrating it within the marketplaces for which it works? - I'm not the biggest fan of adding browser extensions with permissions to harvest data.
Saoud Khalifah
@arseniyw Browser extensions are powerful mediums for our technology to provide real-time results as our users browse. Static or marketplace integration would not have the same effect and with everything that is fraud, real-time detection beats all other types of analysis (static, etc).
Anton Rachitskiy
What's the revenue model for the business ? Are you making affiliate commission from the sales at supported stores ?
Saoud Khalifah
@anton_rachitskiy Our service is completely free and we do not make money from affiliate.
Pedro Copelmayer
This is really interesting and useful, any news on the reception by online retailers? It seems that they should be in charge to monitor and take out bad actors on their plaforms. Cheers.
Saoud Khalifah
@pcopelmayer Great comment. They are simply getting inundated with the amount of fraud on their platforms as they are doing 1000s things at the same time.
