Any other questions just let me know!
@wloundy and @gmoore131 haha a terrible typo :S and it's just too late to come back from now 😆 Luckily you'd be surprised how many people don't know how it's supposed to be spelt!
@seekwell_io Hey Mike, we originally launched in London and have already started to spread organically to other places in the UK so we'll definitely keep that movement going. Otherwise though yes, big cities work best as they have dense populations so it makes sense to start there. We will stick to one city at a time for now so not to spread ourselves too thinly but as the momentum picks up who knows we might be able to move quicker than that. We're already in beta in New York and San Fran so you can get listing your stuff already!
After having £10K worth of camera gear stolen from a FatLama Borrower. This is what the Director Rosie Dallas had to say to me...
"The Terms of Service are a legally binding contract which you agreed to at the point of sign up. The guarantee page is not. We are not under any legal obligation to payout to you *in view of your commercial insurance*."
Nice hey I thought a guarantee was a guarantee? They take 15% commision from me and say it goes towards insurance but when it comes to paying out...forget it.
The issue is Fat Lama amended the Guarantee and the Insurance FAQ to include the text "Commerical Insurance" AFTER I CLAIMED!!!
They then have the audacity to try and claim they never editing the text and I should have seen it when I signed up.
Luckily for me, I used googles cached web pages to go back in time to see what the website used to look like when I signed up and right before I claimed. Surprise Surprise nothing about Commerical Insurance!
If anyone else is having issues with FatLama lying please contact me and I'll send you the required evidence to back up your claims. They changed the wording around the 1st November-7th November 2017. So this only applies to people who joined before this date.
My insurance provider has recommended I notify the FCA and Financial Ombudsman, which I have done, so this claim will take months to resolve.
To all other leanders out there reading this I have just joined KitMapper, Dave seems like a really straight up guy and I don't mind paying a bit more knowing I'm not going to get screwed.
Pros:
Nothing
Cons:
They only pay out claims after you use your own insurance. Its a guarantee not real cover
Untrustworthy, insincere and slow response time in relation to Customer Service. I'm awaiting an item to be returned from a 'borrower' and the consistent negligence from the Fat Llama team is taking its strain. You'll know who I am as I've emailed you 3 times this week and yet again, vacant responses! Check all your inboxes and attend to the matter urgently. Also suspicious regarding many of these '5 Star' reviews - it wouldn't surprise me if the majority are fabricated; somebody else I know had a similar experience earlier on this year and advised me against this. I wish I'd have listened.
@rosie_dallas great idea. I have so many things in my garage that I would love to rent out. Your insurance solution solved a critical pain point. Congrats!
My name is Paul Villa, I work in the media and tech industry. I'm writing this because i have come across something today that has made me sick to my stomach. Being a victim of ID FRAUD myself and disgracefully all openly on Social Media Especially (INSTAGRAM), I would like to warn you guys of what is happening out here right under our nose! So you can share with your outlet and peers, to stay aware of what we put into our computer and where.
While browsing on the explore page on Instagram with a simple #fraud hashtag, i came across a group of what seem hackers & fraudsters based in our city!, Selling People’s bank card details, id’s, bank accounts and logins to sites such as (AMAZON, GUMTREE, FAT LAMA !!!!!!, PAYPAL, UBER, DELIVEROO & PETROL STATION ACCOUNT LOGINS, they also openly promote the ability to match the victim’s I.P for “100% SUCCESS RATE’!” and buy goods and sell them to their followers at 50%, who with the Hackers negotiate ‘deals’ in the comments section.
I have attached below various screen shots taken while going through these pages, all which seem like they are a LONDON & BIRMINGHAM! based gang connected via social media, giving each other “shoutouts”, to increase their followers.
They seem to have sophisticated ways of hacking sites (as mentioned above) and acquiring our LogIns and Card details, which then they use their own various methods to obtain a financial gain from these. ITS TOO EASY FOR THEM!
A LOT OF COMPANIES ESPECIALLY THE ONES STATED ABOVE THAT HAVE BEEN VICTIMS OF HACKING SEEM TO HIDE IT FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS, AS I SEE NO ARTICLES AT ALL!, THEY DONT EVEN LET THEiR USERS KNOW NOTHING!!!! GIVING US NO CHANCE TO PROTECT OURSELVES AND CHANGE OUR INFO!!
MORE SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS, WE MUST PROTECT OUR GRID AND ONLINE SECURITIES ITS TOO EASY FOR THESE HACKERS, ALSO COMPANIES SHOULD BEEF UP THEIR SECURITY BECAUSE WE ARE LOSING…... TO WHAT SEEMS TO BE 16 YEAR OLDS.

they have been hacked and accounts selling online not safe to share your equiptment on!
Congrats ! couple of questions.
1) Can you talk further about vetting policy for the borrowers? Do you check the credit score or backgrounds before letting any one to borrow?
2) What about the delivery? Do the lenders or borrowers need to go and pick up themselves?
3) what percentage the lenders get paid?
@vignesh_tronics sure:
1. Borrowers go through vigorous vetting. We take their ID and check it against a number of national databases. We also check their bank card against a very large international database to see if it's ever been linked to any fraudulent activity in the past. We collect proof of address as a further level for some people and we also have an internal algorithm which flags any suspicious behaviour. A member of staff manually checks over all these results for every single borrower before allowing the request to go through to the lender. If we are not satisfied with their verification we will either go back to them for more, or not allow the rental to go ahead. As a lender you only receive requests from people we have approved.
2. Delivery is currently up to the borrower and lender to sort between themselves. We are considering integrating a logistics solution at some point, but currently the face to face contact between the two parties is what makes the experience so good so we're wary of removing that.
3. We take a 15% cut of any profit you make before paying it out to you.

Really poor customer service and pretty much a 90% chance your stuff gets stolen or broken from me and my friends' experiences. Don't bother with this site for renting out your things, or only rent the things that really do not care for.
