Congrats on reaching 100 schools, @ankurnagpal. Great start! How does it compare to Pathwright (posted by @charlieirish) and Kunerango (posted by @OsmnShkh)?

Just curious- @ankurnagpal, what inspired the name Fedora?

Nice work guys and congrats on launching! Just wanted to correct a few things regarding the comparison with Pathwright. We do allow free courses without the registration fee (or a significantly reduced fee) to help our schools build out their audience but this is done on a case by case basis. Pathwright offers most all of the e-commerce features as Fedora although some of them require a bit more manual setup in our system. The primary difference between Pathwright and Fedora in my opinion is that Pathwright provides a lot richer learning experience for students and teachers. We support a myriad of content types (quizzes/tests, tasks, project submissions, audio, events etc...) as well as basic grading, feedback and scheduling. For selling simple video courses though (which is a big market), Fedora is looking good.

Very old but wanted to just ping that I found fedora through PH and I'm just starting to migrate all of our Customer Success and Data content into their platform :) Was getting tired of landing pages and drip emails... Seems great so far. Internal UI menus needs a bit of a simplification, as does the name! (Sorry but everyone I asked about it got confused with the OS). But it seems great for what we needed: a platform to move our free courses to NOW, and something we could start building our paid courses on later. Pricing seems tied to our value perfectly

Do you know if it is possible for the students to submit homework and for the instructors to grade it using Fedora?

Hey guys, I'm the founder of Fedora and I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. We were teaching on Udemy but found it really hard to scale a business without having ownership of our users so we built Fedora. Version 0.1 was literally video hosting, a Stripe integration and a legit Mixpanel integration. But over the next few months, the product evolved quite considerably. First came progress tracking to make it more like an actual school. We then innovated a bunch of marketing and payments as we added the ability to create course bundles, charge users subscriptions on either a single course or the entire site, an in-built affiliate program, native integrations with more third party tools and a pretty sweet coupon code engine. Right now, we have about 100 schools using it in private beta and today is the first day that absolutely anyone can sign up to create a school.

I think there are two primary difference between us and Pathwright and Kunerango. (Btw, pretty impressed with what the Pathwright guys have done - I saw their product last week and it looks to be great for a specific use case) The primary difference as I see it is those tools are all about the delivery of online education, while our specialty is the marketing and sales of online education. While the feature set appears to be similar on the outset, we have spent a lot of time applying an e-commerce and online marketing mindset to this tool. This is reflected in some of our marketer-friendly features such as a myriad of coupon types, an in-built affiliate program, landing pages optimized for conversions, source and lifetime revenue tracking, integration with Mixpanel and Intercom.io - all features that you'd more commonly associated with the startup / online marketing world than education. The secondary difference comes in pricing - both Kunerango and Pathwright charge $7 per course registration while we charge nothing per course registration unless you are actually selling the course on our site. So if you have 500 students taking a free course, it wouldn't cost you a dime on our platform, but it'd cost you $3,500 on Kunerango and Pathwright. Hope that helps - I'm sure they fit certain use cases better than we do but I'd like to believe we are the best in the business if you actually want to sell education online.

Shameless plug - but we are hiring. If you think this is something you'd like to work on - get at me @ankurnagpal

I thought Fedora is copyrighted by Redhat. Sorry, but Fedora is an OS, nothing else. Consider changing the name :)
