Hey all,
I've been obsessed with maps since I was a kid, but it's much too hard to make them. I've tried creating maps over the years and never found something as fast and easy to use as my other design tools.
If Google Docs could make writing easy and collaborative, Figma could do so for design, and Notion for shared knowledge, why couldn't someone do that for maps?
That's what we're doing at Felt. We built Felt from the ground up to be a new kind of map making tool, and I'd be honored it you gave it a try. We're excited to share what we've built so far, and we have big plans.
If you have any questions about the product or design process, toss them in here and I'll do my best to answer!
Loren
Super amazing! Feels straightforward and snappy, congrats on the launch. Can't wait to see how people are gonna use it. Huge potential for real estate market! π
Small political comment. I tried clipping/coloring Russia and it also colored Crimea, but if you do the same for Israel then West Bank and Gaza Strip don't get colored. I'm not sure whether it's a deliberate decision or just inheritance from the map library used, but wanted to bring this up as country borders can be a sensitive issue these days.
@adas_bradauskas1 Hey Adas, thanks for the great feedback!
Borders are definitely sensitive, complicated, and political. The places you shared are perfect examples. We're pulling the clip boundaries directly from OpenStreetMap since it is maintained by the open source community. Given that Crimea is disputed they actually have it included in both countries.
Anyway we have faith in the OSM community to sort these kinds of things out as best they can! And we recognize that political boundaries will always be tricky for the reasons you mentioned. Hopefully through Felt we can empower people to use maps to bring more clarity to the world.
Hello Loren! I'm obsessed with maps too - just feel like they are the most interactive way to interact and today, "felt" good :)
I was trying out the product for my personal use and have a request already π - What if I can import a public google maps "list" here within a second? Sample list here -

All the best buddy!
@siddarthjain Thanks for the idea! We'd love to make it easier to bring in work you've already done via Google and other map tools. As a start, right now you can export that map as a KML and upload it to Felt to get the point locations into a map
I really love this, thanks Felt! I decided to make a home town GP circuit to test this out. Was fast, with no bugs and fun. https://felt.com/map/Christchurc...
Really an amzing idea, can't wait for more layers less US centric so it could be useful for teachers around the word ! My history/geography teacher friend would love to make custom cool maps for her middle schoolers π₯ @lorenbaxter
@lina_m Thank you Lina! We'll be adding all sorts of data around the globe, hopefully we can make Felt a great tool for your teacher friend and their students π
